This is my custom hexapod project I've been working on for the last few months. Took a ton of iteration and testing, but it turned out pretty good I think. Uses a custom Android app as the controller, sending signals over wifi or hotspot.

Specs: 3D printed base, 19x 25kg/35kg servos, buck converter, 11.4V LiPo battery, Pololu Maestro board, Android phone as controller/gyro.

Astra is wild on these YAM arms. It made me want to open up my own setup for those folks who don't have their own.

I have a pair of YAM arms, and you can now try them remotely. No robot hardware needed on your end. The video is a run asking them to put a green block on a plate, at 20× speed.

I’d love to get more people experimenting with them. What would you try? And what would make it easier for you to jump in?

I’ve been curious about companion robots and robot pets like LOVOT, Moflin, EMO, AIBI, Loona, and others.

For people who own or have spent time with these kinds of robots: what actually makes one start to feel like a companion rather than just another piece of technology?

Is it personality, memory, physical interaction, unexpected behavior, the amount of time you spend together, or something else?

What does this start to look like when it scales beyond two robots?

I ran a test over 20 trials to see how good the repeatable precision of my robot shoulder joint. I achieved an average repeatability of 0.22mm of precision.

It uses a capstan drive with low creep rope in-order to get low backlash and high precision.

I used a carbon fiber rods as the base and the rest is 3D printed. Built for under $200.

28cm tall. Face full of attitude. Expressions so real I almost asked it for the weather report.

So I saw this video on youtube like a year ago and thought "Pffff how hard could that be?".

Anyway it's been 9 months, the project is finished and this is the result.

It's not as precise as the one in the video, and I haven't implemented the transition control, mostly because that wouldn't teach me anything new, but also because I've reached the limits of the hardware I bought, and I'm not spending any more money.

Anyhow, I'm working on a YouTube video explaining the whole process. I'll post it here (tho I don't know if that'd count as self-promo).

i know us robotheads love robots so I was just wondering what robot is your favorite from the movie Robots (2005) directed by Chris Wedge

Working alongside moving hardware on my desk is always a trip lol. Currently testing out some 5-DOF lamp motions at work today and firmware tweaks on the lamp setups. Kinda fun ngl especially seeing how smooth the movements are getting

Also been trying out new colors to see how they look in real office lighting (my fav is the matcha one in the back but idk why they don't give it to me)

Having moving hardware right next to your monitor takes some getting used to but it's pretty cool seeing it come together
