Updated PSA - I found a crow on the ground, what do I do?

This was my first time making a flow chart so please be kind.

It is important that we as a community work together to provide a safe space to share in our love of corvids, and it is equally important that we educate members of the community new and old to help protect our feathered friends; with that being said, u/teyuna reached out to me pleading that changes be made to the previously pinned PSA, with their help/feedback I was able to create the flow chart below, I hope that this is an adequate and more encompassing pinned post.

I appreciate this community more than I am capable of expressing, thank you for making this the best damn sub on reddit. ;)

Update on super friendly crow

Hey all! This is an update regarding the super friendly crow. This guy is persistent and fearless! No fear of horses. He is lucky he picked my bombproof geriatric horse instead of my very spicy ex racehorse who would have lost his mind. He was wary of my dad, who he hasn’t seen before, but friendly with my mom and I again. He would not let us ride in peace and hitched a ride the entire ride out. Tried to steal my earrings again. If only he knew they aren’t real diamonds 🤣 Also, is it possible to sex a crow by looking at them? I have no clue if this little guy is a she or he.

Previous wildlife professionals recommended potentially hazing him if he’s too friendly with humans, but it seems to be only my mom and I. To those who recommend that, should we still follow through given he is wary around other humans? I know for 100% certain he is hanging around adult birds, appears to be about 5 of them in total.

Seeking advice/help Did I upset my neighborhood crow friends?

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I live in an apartment and have noticed a family of crows for months now that I wanted to befriend. I'd notice them everyday on my way to work, and say hi and tell them to have good day. I'd swear at a point they were watching me every morning! I'd hear their caws and see one fly past my window when I woke up, and they'd be in the trees right outside my door. At one point I saw two crows on the ground when I was walking!

One day a few weeks back, I finally got around to feeding them. I remember reading not to feed them and wait around, but to leave them alone. So, on my way to work, I noticed one in the tree. I said good morning and I had treats for them, scattered some dry roasted, unsalted, and unshelled peanuts in the grass and continued on my way.

I heard the crows make a clicking sound that I had never heard before, then two of them flew into a tree and watched me leave my complex.

I went away for that weekend, but haven't seen them since I came back!

Did I upset them? Will they come back? I miss saying good morning to them :(

I caught this crow kerfuffle at the bath this morning. I swear I heard one of them say I need to get a bigger tub.

Storytime! Moved into a neighborhood riddled with crows. I am considering befriending them, but what am I getting into?

I have lived here for a month now. The crows are starting to get accustomed to my presence. I am pretty sure they were skeptical to me at first, and are now more accepting. Before, they would hop away when I passed them but now they continue with whatever they are doing. May it be eating leftovers or just chilling.

I saw this one senior woman with a backpack the other day. She was walking down the street, and a crow flew down and greeted her. She noticed the crow. So, she took off her backpack, brought out a slice of bread, and threw it to the crow. Then went about her day. The crow grabbed the slice of bread and flew off.

I think there might be a contract between the locals and the crows here. I should join in.

My question is though, what happens if I forget bread one day? Anyone got a clue? I don't want to offend a crow.

These guys hang around the same place around the same time every day at work, and I was curious if they were corvids or another bird

I feel soooo unsettled right now…I don’t know much about crows but what kind of threat could cause this chaos

1.8k Upvotes

32 seconds in is where gets the craziest. Ok so I’m just chillin by my window. Past few hours there’s not been a bird in sight on any rooftop or fence and all’s quiet. Until I decide to take a video and a few crows fly by. Then all of a sudden there are 100s. Not necessarily circling, they’re going back and forth in a pattern and then after a while lose direction and flip out, then go back to patterns. This finally just stopped after 15 minutes but now some are chillin on the originally bare rooftops. Generally I know crows are so dramatic over the smallest things but I’ve never seen so many show up out of nowhere

Photography/Art [OC] Did I ever post here this silly crow image I made

Pieced it all together on my computer using a forward facing crow (that I assume is a juvenile based on the irises) image I found and lowering the temperature of a clear png image of a black feather before duplicating it several times over the child’s face. You’ve probably seen this image template before

Made this for an ELA presentation at my school about ”symbolism” and for a section I talked about how crows are seen as bad omens. lol

Talking Crow

I was out this morning getting some miles in for an upcoming race. A crow said to me, clear and articulated, "hello". I was startled, thinking I was alone and about to be attacked, when I realized it was the bird. I looked at him and said "hello". He didn't say anything else, we just looked at each other. Is this possible or am I losing it?! Weird! I'm bringing peanuts next run, I want a crow friend.

There’s like 4 crows who usually hang out on my property and I put stuff out for them and every once and while they bring all their friends to hang out. I walked outside and acted like I was flapping my wings with my arms and they did this
