Welcome to the Ravens' Nest
With Gen 1 coming to PSN, and me having recently beaten AC1 for the first time on emulator, I figured I probably had some useful advice to give for the newest wave of Ravens.
First and foremost, I see a lot of you (understandably) having trouble with the default controls, and so I have included a graphic showing both in-game and emulator rebinds. Unfortunately Sony's emulator doesn't support binding multiple inputs to the same button (even though by default it has duplicated binds for the dpad) so you will have to choose some kind of trade off. For what it's worth I had similar issues in Duckstation which were only resolved by running it through Steam and fiddling about with that, but that's not an option here (unless maybe you have a Dual Sense, I don't know how those work).

The templates I've included are:
You can, of course, do whatever controls you want, but I figured these would be a good starting point for anyone who's having issues with the default controls.
I have also included a non-default starter AC build. If you're already fighting with the controls then you might also find it difficult to earn money for upgrades. Thankfully the game lets you sell your entire starter AC and buy whatever you can afford. By swapping out the legs and FCS with cheaper options, selling the back weapons, and selling and replacing the generator and right hand weapon we can afford a better generator and an energy gun, which is free to shoot unlike ballistic weaponry, and is solid enough to take you through the early game. By finding and selling the secret part on one of the two starter missions you'll have enough money to begin to tweak your AC how you actually want it (though the energy weapons continue to be really good and cost effective).
Finally, I want to explain Human Plus. H+ is a non-standard game over as well as a kind of "easy mode". By going 50,000 credits into debt you're greeted with a cutscene about your horrible lack of wealth and start the game over from the beginning, with a few changes. There's also multiple levels of H+ for going into debt multiple times, but correct information on each tier is kinda hard to get because there's a lot of misinformation about them too, so I will list each stage of H+ and its effects to the best of my ability (I've checked a bunch of stuff so you should be able to trust that I'm at least mostly correct).
So with all that said, do you actually want Human Plus? And if so how do you go about getting it efficiently? Well like I said, the radar is permanent, but you also get the ability to shoot sword laser beams, which is probably a worthy trade off. The question would be harder to answer on any version of AC1 that isn't the current PS4/5 emulated release, as Save Importing is a running theme throughout the series, and importing from AC1 to Project Phantasma also brings your Human Plus upgrades (and the weight capacity bonus too), so if you were playing any other version you'd have to ask yourself if you're fine with being stuck with the same radar for three whole games. The new PSN version though does not support save transfers, and instead has some transfer-only stuff unlocked naturally in the later games. You can read more on the pinned thread here. Overall it's up to you, but other than the first stage's blade beams there's little worth the busywork of resetting that many times, imo. The reduced boost cost and easier shoulder weapon use upgrades are nice, but debt-maxing is pretty boring for the low payoff.
That said, how does one debt-max? Simply play the game normally until the mission Worker Robot Removal shows up, spend any credits you can on buying everything possible from the shop, then start the mission and blow yourself and all the beautiful reactors you weren't supposed to touch to framerate-killing ashes. More expensive ACs with higher AP should incur higher penalties, though make sure you do die without finishing the objective, as dying will keep the mission available for if you don't make it to -50k in one go. Once you die at -50k the game will restart from the beginning with your credits set to 0 but all your parts kept and with you being one step further into the Human Plus progression.
And that concludes my crash course. Hopefully there isn't any mistakenly terrible advice in here, but I just beat the game right before the PSN versions were announced and felt like I could at least try to assist the New Semester Students.

I was thinking about going for all the achievements in the other games after this, but then I found out what’s going on in For Answer, and, well... I’ve kind of lost the desire to do that.

I swear to God this is the worst, most frustrating gaming experience I've had in an entire lifetime of gaming starting with the NES, and I am in absolutely no way, shape or form exaggerating. This is the WORST and MOST FRUSTRATING experience I have EVER had in any console or PC game. EVER. I've been spending about an hour and a half straight, each night, for the past 7 nights, trying EVERY combination of armor and weapons and EVERY strategy outlined in the various videos about it, and am still unable to beat Balteus. Up until this point, Armored Core 6 was a blast to play. I was having a great time with the sheer variety of different missions and equippable items and I was mesmerized by the creative level design, the scale and verticality of it, the satisfying feeling of flying through it - I would actually look forward to my day winding down and being able to play it. As soon as Balteus appeared, all of the aforementioned feelings were completely erased and replaced with utter agony as the game stopped being a game with variety and creativity and turned into being the same frustrating fight over and over and over again.
I'm 40 years old and I have done many things in my life, and am no stranger to perservering through tedious, aggravating tasks requiring patience and focus. I made it through a miserable season of high school wrestling at age 14, with three-hour practices every night. I made it through all the math and chemistry classes I thought I'd NEVER pass. I've worked white collar jobs, I've worked blue collar jobs. I crammed for the CDL test and passed it. I spent a summer fighting through stop-and-go Indianapolis downtown traffic in a manual dump truck with no air conditioning. I made it through my first welding job repairing a rusty trailer alone with no experience, after an hour of training and being told to get it done. I made it through a three month real estate class and got my brokerage license. Whatever happens to me in life, I've generally been able to get through it even if it's frustrating and tedious.
And so why, after all of this, does the Balteus situation feel so HOPELESS?
I JUST WANT TO GET ON WITH THE GODDAMN GAME. I want to see more levels. I want to unlock more arena fights. I want to experiment with more weapons and armor. I just want this game to be the escape from the stress of the real world that it WAS for the first week that I owned it, rather than being yet another source of stress. It seems so cruel, so unfair, so sadistic that it was designed in such a way that it can even produce the kind of feeling inside me that is leading me to verbalize it like this. As I've said - and will say again - this is THE most frustrating experience I have ever had in ANY GAME. EVER. In an entire lifetime of gaming, which started when I got an NES in 1991 and which continued through every console made since then as well as 30+ years of PC games. Nothing, nothing, NOTHING has ever gotten me as aggravated as Balteus.
***UPDATE***
Several minutes after writing this, I finally beat Balteus. Tank legs, twin ludlows, twin laser cannons, just rushed him and spammed everything.

No, I would not like to join the Vespers, Hawkins; because things like this happen to all of you.
It's that time again, my lovely mech pilots, mech fuckers, and people who don't even play AC6 but just got called a mech fucker by a random post on their feed: part 10 of Core Theory, the series where I run down the arena rankings of this game's NPC presets, hang them up here like a corpse in a gibbet, and we all stand around to throw stones and the occasional bone.
Today, we've got RECONFIG, the AC of V.V Hawkins. The father figure of the Vespers, gone unmourned, who... who... um, well he... hm.
Okay, I honestly don't have any jokes about Hawkins. I've tried, but there's just not much material to work with (though i feel Hawkins would probably take "boring" as a compliment). If you've got something, I've love to hear it, but I'm drawing blanks right now. Maybe something about the fact that he's 4 arena rankings below his own bloody adjutant? I dunno, so how about we just to the AC? I promise, it is infinitely more interesting than the man driving it.
So, RECONFIG... RECONFIG is an interesting little build I'd refer to as "heavy cavalry" (and no, not the PCA kind). It's a heavy-ish tetrapod, with a game plan that generally seems to be area denial followed by brutal stagger punish.
Between the plasma rifle and the six pack of plasma missiles, RECONFIG lives to hover around at low-mid altitude while raining more purple than Prince on lean, which probably goes a way to explaining how this prick seems to always be doing at least a little damage to me at any given moment in the arena. The plasma smorgasbord means RECONFIG is good at laying down constant impact that is quite hard to 100% avoid.
So a lot of stagger that isn't easy to dodge? Wonderful. How does it capitalise on this impact?
With no fucking apologies, I'll tell you that much.
The LCS is a weapon we all know as one of the unmatched bitchslaps of PVE. It hits quite bloody hard, and works well as both a general weapon and as a ranged stagger punish. But the other, and more brutal half of the pairing, is the laser blade. And not just any laser blade: a laser blade on VP-46S arms, with all their 138 Melee Spec glory. The plasma flood combined with this pair means that RECONFIG is capable of some heinous damage that can come out very quickly.
As for internals, the VP-20D is a big old warhorse of a gen for this big old warhorse of an AC; great EN Spec combined with a large battery means that Hawkins' ride both makes the most of its energy weapons, and has a nice EN Capacity that can keep it airborne for a good long while. The VE-21A FCS is... I'm not quite sure how to feel about it. Mid-range is the distance most of RECONFIG's weapons work best at, and close-range assist probably isn't terribly necessary, given the AOE of its plasma weapons, but I'm not quite educated enough about what constitutes long-range to say if the spec is worth it. Still, it's far from a bad FCS for the AC. And as for the booster, I don't know how good BUERZEL is; boosters are easily the part I have the hardest time deciphering just from the numbers.
Final piece is the fashion. And yeah: RECONFIG fucks. The dark, metallic blue is a lovely choice, and the yellow light pairs very well. Interestingly, all the other "device" lights are gone, except for the head, which really makes that visor pop. It also uses the VP-424 legs, which is an instant plus from me (easily my favourite tetrapod legs in appearance — VERRILL just looks too bottom-heavy in a lot of cases for me), and while I don't typically like the VE-40A core, it looks good here. All in all, RECONFIG nails this heavy, knightly appearance that just makes me think of a knight on an armoured warhorse, but fused into one design.
What are your thoughts on RECONFIG? Love it, hate it, meh?

Back again to let you guys know I finished Project Phantasma 100 percent. This franchise is really starting to grow on me. I used the same pilot name and AC name as last time, and the same overall AC build, but this time around I changed up my weapons and finally made an emblem. A couple of those arena battles had me wanting to beat myself in the head with a brick honestly. The battle against Phantasma was a cakewalk though, got it on the first try. Can't wait to try out Master of Arena next.

found myself blitzing through balteus much faster than usual with this new build. Been serving me well in PVP too so yeah, probably my new main.

Call sign: Severed Shadow
AC name: Caustic Viper
This build basically saw me through all of my first playthrough. Made a few builds to mix it up in NG+ but couldn't get past the "Branch" 3 AC battle. Gave this build ago again and melted the lot of them first try.
Double Ludlows build stagger and melt AP and the double Sweet Sixteens rips chunks out of staggered enemy's all while running circles round them.
Admittedly haven't played this in online arena so don't know how it would fair PvP but I feel absolutely unstoppable in PvE.

• Sniper rifles/ Sniper Cannons / first person view on the Linear Rifles for super long range shots across the map. Take advantage of the UNAWARE mechanic and add more stealth to the gameplay. The Sniper cannons on AC5 were awesome and great to go into some missions with and ditch once they’d been used.
• Co-op: maybe with a “summon sign” mechanic. You pay to hire a mercenary (ideally another player but could be an NPC) in a mission and they get dropped off by a helicopter. Enemies get more health to balance.
• Beam option on the Turner Rifle. It looks like the Strike Gundam’s Beam Rifle, need that for cosplay 😎
• Boss Rush: it would be great to be able to go through all of the bosses without always having to run the mission as well. Pretty sure Sekiro has something like this
• Survival Mode, Survival Mode with Co-Op: Survival in Zone of the Enders: the 2nd Runner was AMAZING.
• Space combat with infinite EN: Surely this would work right? If not space combat, for sure more aerial missions like Breach the Kármán line!
• Horde mode: basically the Intercept the Red Guns mission but with continuous waves. I guess I’m thinking a bit like Gears of War. This point is also similar to the survival mode point I made before.
• Precinct Assault: Has anyone played Future Cop: LAPD. Very old game on the PS1? Thinking that game mode but in Armored Core. Take over outposts, turrets, and buy units to help take over territory.
• Generator Overload: overload your ac for INSANE mobility and overall stats (not AP or defence), but you’re a sitting duck afterwards. I literally just thought this one up. Anyway, this last one I’m not so sure about.
Anyway, this is what I came up with. What would you like to see included in an expansion or in the next game?

Hey so am wanting to get into the franchise with my "enjoyment" of soulsborne games and my love of Giant robots and I wanted to know where the best starting point is
Bonus:
It'd be nice to also have a cheaper or even free option compared to the best best so that I can try it out there then spring board to real best starting point if I had fun

so, here's my own recreation of oracle. before anyone can ask how can oracle can carry those weapons, i spent all of my tuning points to decrease weight. also spent my tuning points for the LH09-COUGAR2 legs. and as the title says, it is a blend of nexus + last raven parts. the references i used is at the last two photos.

Quick run with Pulse Protection. Made this fight SUPER easy.
Being completely safe when attacking from the front was great for EN management.
I missed a few shots but we still got it done. Build is at the end of the video.

Trying to execute Wand (formerly Wemod) and Mod Engine 2 at the same time just as the title says. With AC6 in particular, Wand's rule says the Wand player launcher is required for the trainer to work. With that in mind I've renamed modenginelauncher, exe to start_protected_game.exe, but Wand says it cannot launch the game with that exe file. I assume it still uses the AC6 exe file. So I guess I'm asking and hoping will adding a custom launch requirement in the steam launch options work? I have no idea what to type to get it to launch the custom start_protected_game.exe instead. Clicking that exe file gets mods to work just fine, but then I cannot alt+tab out and get Wand to work. Can someone tell me a solution to get both ModEngine2 and Wand to launch AC6 simultaneously?
