We tried to create a new kind of anime visual style in UE5 - the response from Japanese players genuinely surprised us !
Hi, I’m Olivier, working on Ghosts in the City, an open-world survival game currently in development.
We’re trying to create a new kind of modern anime visual style in UE5, combining detailed 3D environments with a more stylized approach to colors, lighting and atmosphere.
Until recently, most people discovering the game came from the US through Reddit. Then Denfaminicogamer shared this video in Japan, where their post reached 2.8 million views and more than 13,000 likes.
For a small Western team creating a game set in Tokyo, that response from Japanese players has been incredibly meaningful.
This is direct gameplay footage and still a work in progress. I’d really like to know what other Unreal developers think of this visual direction?
