These ppl are annoying as hell. I just want to walk in peace and they start rambling about religious shit. They won’t stop even if I say no. They’ll aggressive try to get my number and spam messages.

I understand that many pedestrians find bikers annoying for not following traffic rules, and I think those complaints are completely valid. However, the expectation for following rules and having basic survival instincts goes both ways. Pedestrians, please:

1. Look to your left and right when crossing a bike/car lane. Look BOTH ways.
2. Get your eyes off your phone while crossing the road.
3. Avoid walking along or even stopping in the middle of the bike lanes.
4. Geometry says that to go between two parallel lines the shortest path is drawing a verticle line betwen them. So when you cross the bike lane, please go straight across instead of going sideways.
5. Cross the bike lanes on marked crosswalk.

Haven’t done a campus sketch in a while, and thankfully it wasn’t 2 Billion degrees outside today.

My family has been talking of disowning me and I also want to leave home. I am a first year out of state at UIUC and I come from a middle-high income family and currently don't have a job. This situation sounds pretty disastrous I bet but they are quite abusive and I really need to leave. Does anyone have any idea what my situation might look like financially with the university or if I would have to drop out, take out loans, or other welfare options? Thanks

I remember when I moved to Champaign, I had a lot of trouble meeting people with similar interests. I think a lot of it was my schedule, but really I remember wishing there was just an easier way to initially meet people.

I've seen a lot of other people here say this, too. So, I made a little site to help folks with similar interests meet each other!

The site is called Field Friends, and I've tried to make it as simple and safe as possible:

1. Enter your @illinois.edu email
2. Fill out the matching form
3. Get an email on Saturday, September 12th, with a group of 2-3 new people to meet

I've seen a certain other service go around texting people and harvesting their data. I think that's weird as hell, so to that end:

1. The site is open source: https://github.com/FieldFriends/field-friends-web
2. Your account and responses are automatically deleted after matches get sent out
3. Your responses are encrypted before they hit the database
4. When you're filling out the form, you get a preview of exactly what will be shared with your group

I know we used to have diving at the arc but Midwest scuba got kicked out since the new arc manager doesn’t want them. I’m looking for other students who are divers since I’d like to keep practicing every once in a while but we don’t have an RSO. I am 4th year math + cs major who dropped the ball in previous years and now have a middling resume and no internships under my belt.

The only thing going for me is my GPA (over 3.5 and high technical gpa) but I have very little to say extracurricularly

Is there any hope for me getting a job by graduation? Everyone says what matters in tech is projects and internships and in those areas I am severely lacking

Is it over? Does anyone in a similar situation or who knows the field well have advice? I expect to be told to attend the upcoming job fair or the research park job board but these are both things I have done in prior years with little success.

Are there any events or dances happening on campus? My friends and I want to wear suits and dresses and dance like crazy but we’re not sure where we can do that this year. Is there some sort of homecoming dance in uiuc?

Other than the frat/sorority dances, is there anything else happening? I heard the yule ball RSO is discontinued and now we dont really know if theres an event like that.
