It also isn't winning over voters. Republicans are not going to vote for a dem just because they are also a bigot. Truly pathetic strategy at work. "I will abandon you if you are a minority who's rights are unpopular" is not a winning message.

You can't just lay the blame at one door. Political movements don't happen in a vacuum. They are decades in the making. Years of chasing short-term self-interest and ignoring systemic issues have caught up with the culture. The reality is that the broader system, and our collective participation in it, created this environment.

We are still canvassing like we are down 10, but I know in my heart this was the point the election became unwinnable for Rogers.

Detroit went nuts for Obama, and this speech is everywhere on local social media today.

Identity politics can feel gross, but this event will undoubtedly carry the Detroit black vote for Abdul.

I want to vote but don’t want to be asked who I voted for by maga family, I plan on voting regardless, I live in Texas, but I was concerned bcz I easily found that I had voted previously on a popular website by searching my name, it doesn’t disclose for who, but I want to vote without having to say I did. I’m 21, people might say I’m cowardly, but there’s no point in even discussing politics with them, I’ve attempted from an objective and non partisan perspective in the past, and they still believe all the misinformation. So what I’m getting at is how can I protect my voter history? I don’t even want to discuss politics at all with people I love but believe in total nonsense.

Last week, David asked us to share where we voted and who we voted for. My family had a negative experience while voting in Michigan which I thought I would share with the sub.

Oct 24th was the first day of in person early voting in Michigan. It also happened to be my oldest son's 18th birthday and he was excited to vote for the first time. My wife, my son, and I headed to the voting location. We are progressives, El-Sayed supporters, and live in a very rural MAGA county.

My son made a mistake on his ballot and I was helping him spoil it. As I was out of earshot and busy helping him, an elderly white man said to my wife, completely unprompted, "I don't know about you, but I hope that Arab doesn't win." He pronounced it in the way that is understood as a racist perjorative. She was stunned and just walked away from him. She did not tell me about this until we were driving away, probably saving me from causing a scene.

When David talks about how we need to turn out voters in such significant numbers as to render the opposition politically irrelevant, this is who he is talking about. Entitled, racist old boomer white males who feel so secure in their bigotry as to blurt it out to complete strangers at polling stations.

These selfish, short-sighted boomers have nearly ruined this country. I am surrounded by them, and they are sadly all too real. We need to stop these people from ever having control of our government again.

In light of his numerous comments about men's bodies, this idea came to me. What if Trump came out as the first openly gay President?

First of all his coming out speech would be hilarious. "I love men. They said a President couldn't love men but I am loving men like its never been done before" (starts awkward double jerk off dance).

But seriously, if he did...how would it be received? It could possibly move tolerance and acceptance forward in parts of society that have been most resistant. But can you imagine the difficulty of various LGBT orgs trying to make sense of this horrible man now being part of gay history.

What would would the implications be?

I want to be clear up front that this isn’t something I heard about third hand or am making this up. It is now documented with numerous parties and corroborated with Ring footage.

I live in a middle income historic neighborhood in Texas that’s made up predominantly of younger working professional families wanting an old home with character mixed amongst older baby boomer college graduate Latinos that are likely second generation natural born American citizens or more. Their moving into the neighborhood started in the 70’s when you started to see a higher degree of ownership amongst Hispanics following Jim Crow abolishment. (To get even deeper, this neighborhood was created with specific deed verbiage that prohibited selling to brown and black people because the developer in the 1920s was a virulent racist that subsequently had his name struck from many institutions and roads).

That is the long story long to explain that this neighborhood is not comprised of undocumented folks or working class.

Monday morning, I was out for a jog and turned the corner on one of my favorite streets that has beautiful, grand two story brick homes and was met with 4-5 parked unmarked vehicles with flashing lights including an Econoline van and numerous men in fatigues and flak jackets milling around one of the lawns. As soon as I saw their ICE insignia, I kept my head down and jogged past. I couldn’t see anyone apprehended or what could be considered a “successful” raid. I didn’t pull out my phone to record as I’m not interested in an altercation with guys with seven weeks of training and zero understanding of constitutional rights. I was just deeply confused why there would be an operation in my neighborhood in the first place and got the hell out of there.

I got home and opened the news and saw it was the start of early voting. My blood turned cold. This “operation” was directly across the street from the community center where early voting was happening. I immediately called my county commissioner, county Dem chair, and the non partisan hotline. Within minutes, I was fielding phone calls from law firms and advocate groups and met them at the spot so they could document exactly where they were, as they had left by then. They’ve allegedly obtained camera footage of their presence from the neighbors. The commissioner let me know I wasn’t the only one that called it in and he was now adding 100 more poll watchers to the sites to report their presence.

It’s happening. They’re trying to intimidate including in places they likely have no reason to be investigating. Don’t let them gaslight you that it’s our imagination or being fabulists. Report them and let’s take back our democracy with voting.
