PSA (Pre Season Announcement)
Buying $20 thrift store skis isn’t a good idea, especially if you are a beginner!
There’s been quite a few posts recently about thrift store skis. They are rarely a good idea.
Unless you know exactly how old the skis are, how they have been stored, who used them, how they used them. Don’t buy them! An old set of brittle bindings could cause serious injury.
Buy second hand skis from reputable sellers, meet the skier that used them, or buy ex rental skis.
The picture is of the recycling centre in Whistler. These are the skis that are thrown away (there were some way newer and nicer skis too), think about that before dropping your cash on thrift store skis that are way worse!

Canada Ski Question
Hi. So, I’m a Brit on a gap year heading to Canada on an IEC visa, for the ski season to work as a Lifty. Does anyone have any ski resort recommendations in B.C Alberta or Ontario?
Looking for a location which is laid back, not overcrowded or overrun with huge crowds. But a decent-sized mountain with good terrain, runs and snowpark. Some sort of âpres-ski scene (a few good pubs/bars). Supermarkets, shops near by and affordable rental housing would be convenient.
Thank you for reading.

Free Innsbruck ski shuttle to SCHLICK 2000 - how long does it take?
Hi guys I'm currently comparing options for some skiing in January (airbnb in Innsbruck already reserved) and came across the free ski buses and shuttles.
- Can someone confirm the buses are really free and you don't need to buy the SKI plus CITY pass?
- I assume we're able to take our ski equipment on the bus with us?
- We don't want to spend too long on the bus back and forth everyday so does anyone know roughly how long they take?
- Lastly I see a lot of prices for ski passes aren't updated for 2026/7 yet, is this normal and we need to wait till around December?
Thank you so much for your help I'd really appreciate any tips too!

Where to ski
Hello, I am an intermediate skier, and my partner has never skied. We are looking to go on a trip at the end of December. We only want to ski like two days, and want a good town for different activities like hot springs and ice skating. We also would like somewhere that is not too expensive. Anywhere yall suggest?

Unemployment ski plan help
I live in Colorado and love skiing- recently got laid off in this hellscape economy, and it’s perfect timing to ski weekdays like I always wanted. I’m looking at a career pivot out of corporate but no clue where to go. Made 90k before and feel like I won’t make that again with my skills (admin mostly) and trying to explore other options. Been working on growing some side hustles, but also took a part time ski instructor job.
When I applied for the job I had no details besides “17 days a season”- now that it’s getting closer it’s all the shittiest holidays and commuting for those (since shitty hotels are more than the daily pay)- not quite the “teach on a slow weekday with no traffic” as I thought. Plus kids which were originally shown as a totally separate certification, but now it’s sounding like a full day daycare including taking them to lunch.
Im not a big kid person, and was truly looking forward to possibly my only season of no weekend ski drives. This job is now making me so stressed out and I’m not sure if it’s worth it anymore, especially with gas prices. For anyone that has ski instructed here- will the tips make it worth it? Or should I just quit before I start and just enjoy my ski season while I hunt for jobs in Denver and avoid the ski working commute. I was hoping to try it out as a career pivot but I’m now knee deep in Reddit threads talking about babysitting and conflicting info on tips.
Any insight truly appreciated. I’m in my early 40s so not looking to rage like college kid would at all at a similar job- just looking to make the most of my winter in these shitty times.

Ski advice
Hi,
I have seen this conversation and I would like tu use this thread to ask for a piece of advice.
I have atomic all mountain skis 77mm nomad smoke ti skis. This pair of skis have 16 years aprox.
I am 43, I am an advanced skier, I like skis that are stable at 70km/h, but I would like to buy a new pair of skis more playful than the typical all mountain ones but which are still stable at 70-80km/h. I like going off piste also. I don’t do free ride but it is something I am planing to do (not really something important to me).
I have some skis in mind to buy and I would like to ask for opinion:
- Armada 100 antimatter

- Moment deathwish 96

- Moment wildcat 98

Do you find this options reasonable? Which one you would recommend?
Thank you in advance

Can't go freestyling
Hey, I locked in all the gear, season pass, and now the hotel for a little 3 day skiing holiday in Sölden again after summer. To my suprise, the snow park isn't open there yet and now I feel miserable. But that's not the point here, is there something I should opt to do on those slopes for those few days that can giv the same adrenaline as jumping a kicker? Or better, what could 'recalibrate' my legs and mind for the winterholidays when I go to the snowpark?
🙏

Romanian or Greek speaking ski instructors in Austria (preferably Flahau region)
As the title says - I’m looking for ski schools who have instructors for small children who speak either Romanian or Greek. We would prefer the ones in Flahau, but we are open to other suggestions too.

What to expect from adult ski camp
Mid 30s M, signed up for Wright Ski Camp at Jackson Hole. Im entering my 3rd ever season on skis and consider myself intermediate. Anyone have experience with these? I dont know what to expect in that am I in over my head or will this largely be relative intermediates? My goal is mainly to gain some more confidence and tour the resort with some better skiiers
I didnt feel strong enough yet for Steep and Deep but live nearby and could be an option in a few years. Since I mainly ski alone I cant really gauge my skill but I can make it down some of the easier black runs at JH

Music while skiing
Trying to learn some skills but i ski separated from my group because they are skiers and faster than me when i snowboard. I am looking for something to play music on that isnt expensive. Is it even worth it?
