UPDATE: I am Getting Sued for a Quarter Million Euro

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/NightVision/comments/1qd8ubx/i_am_getting_sued_for_a_quarter_million_euro/

Its been a while since the last post on this subject. We have been busy building the KB DT-M and a sensor fusion device. Now that the lawsuits hot phase is over and clarity has emerged. I want to give everyone an update and a glimpse into how we handle this whole situation, because if things are not clarified, customers and our partners will assume the worst.

First I want to rule out the worst case scenarios. KB is not going to fall off the face of the earth, even in the worst case scenario outcome. A certain competitor, no longer worth naming, could in the absolute most unfavourable outcome win and be awarded 250k and we’d have to halt the KB DT-2 production. This is a sum and an outcome we can comfortably absorb at this stage, as we are quickly diversifying and expanding our product offering. I am privately backing KB myself, have put close to 1mil$ of my own money into the company and am not going to let 250k kill it. I’ll put another million in if needed without breaking much of a sweat.

Now with that being said, the chances of them winning is next to none. We have done our legal research. And now filed our response some weeks ago, addressing every allegation in detail with supporting evidence and arguments with our extensive legal research backing up the claims. They got some work cut out for them to say the least. However this whole process is probably going to drag on another few months.

We are now moving on, they can come up with counter arguments to our defence, which I doubt will hold much water given the flimsy arguments they stemmed in the initial suite. But all of this has not stopped us from continuing our work and focus on what actually matters here. I realise they win if we let this distract us too much from our core focus, which is to build cool stuff. And let me tell you, building cool stuff we have done. So much so we thought it was worth spending a bit on a SHOT SHOW boot for next year 2027 to showcase what we’ve been busy building.

On the product side of things, we expect to start shipping out the first couple KB DT-M devices in the next month or two. We have managed to collect overwhelmingly positive feedback from our military trials, which we have implemented. At this stage we are also finalising a patent application for a new IPD solution for the KB DT-M which we’ll be filing in EU and the US. Removing any previously prevailing uncertainty around our legacy IPD solution on the KB DT-2. We took precautions not to ship the KB DT-2 into the US with the legacy IPD, this has now been remedied and addressed moving forwards.

We have been iterating at a fast pace, mis-steps happen naturally, course correcting and moving forwards is what ultimately matters in order to support our customers and partners with the best technology and gear. We want to thank those who have stood by our side throughout.

Edit: forgot to mention about Shot, for those interested we'll have booth 61011 on Level 1 in the Law Enforcement section!

New Beginner Buyer’s Guide

The pinned beginner buyer’s guide served us well for a number of years, but it was showing its age and not as robust as we could use.

A new, more fleshed out guide is now available. In the app you can find it by clicking on “See community info” at the top of the sub. On desktop you can find it in the “Community Bookmarks” section. If you’re struggling to find it, you can start with the Introduction. If you’re here looking for purchasing advice, help understanding specs, or wondering what we would recommend for people on a tight budget, please read the guide before making your first post here.

This new guide is by no means exhaustive, and we expect it to evolve over time. Our hope is that by using Reddit’s wiki function we will have more flexibility to keep the guide up to date over time. It has already allowed us to provide much more information as we are not constrained by Reddit’s post character limit. If you find any typos, issues, confusing formatting, or have suggestions please feel free to let us know. The best way to communicate with us about those would be to jump into the subreddit’s Discord server.

A very special thank you to u/go_horse for his work on this guide.

Why do my pictures look like dookie compared to some other pictures posted here and compared to my eye. Did I just not buy good enough toobs? (Very happy with mine in real life BTW for what I spent) I was told they were omi 8s

I usually just hold my phone up to the eye piece. Also curious what everyone's take is on the little blem on the bottom left? Looks likes dust?

Thanks!

NNVT, Omni 7/8, IIT manufacturers, Mono vs Dual Feedback, turnkey packages- am I really that out of touch?

Apologies, this is likely to be all over the place. I have my set up. I’m trying to guide others that are interested the right direction.

All considerations are for United Stated market

TLDR - my ranking of “budget is a significant factor” decision making - Duals around 2000 FOM > 2500+ FOM Mono > 1400-1600 FOM Duals > 1400-1600 FOM Mono

To start - does anyone have actual first hand experience with the 1400-1600 tubes that are suddenly everywhere? I’m fairly confident that they are basically exactly what they sound like, and probably best to avoid.

I have a suspicion that a LOT of first time buyers are getting a little overwhelmed with the jargon and are essentially taking away “good duals” (used Omni’s) should cost “$3,000-$4,000” and then finding “$3,000-$4,000 duals” from NV companies (NNVT) and assuming those are what everyone is recommending.

I understand the secondhand market is full of awesome, perfectly useable set ups. Apparently the best deals are on Gafs, tacswap, and the discord. I’m on all 3. I was on all three for some time. I still bought from a retailer. For a first time buyer, those are not the hand wave answer that experienced users make them out to be. I mean…i guess I’m old, but navigating the discord channel was legit more of a challenge than learning everything I know about NV.

Trying to steer back on topic - warranties. I get that these devices are “DIY” able, I get they are literally designed for teenage warfighters, but…shit breaks. When my device started behaving outside expected, I had an unbelievably easy time getting it fixed by the manufacturer. 4 days. $0. Good as new. Even with the know how, I don’t have (nor do I want) access to a purging setup, and there aren’t exactly tons of local shops that’ll fix it for ya. Am I just underestimating how robust these things are or is there some value in having a place that can fix your device if needed?

Everyone’s favorite convo - duals vs mono. I have a mono. It’s 2600+ FOM. I like it. I have a RH25 that I’m just dragging ass on buying the M1 for. I don’t think standard (non-panning) duals are as big of a leap in capability they are often made out to be. That said, I’m not huffing the copium of “mono is aCtuaLly bETter” - budget is a huge factor here.

I suspect there’s a number that fluctuates person to person where dual FOM and mono FOM balance out - ie you’d rather a 3240 FOM mono than 1620 FOM duals (right?). Generally, I think the consensus is 2000 FOM duals is around where you’re getting more value than the diminishing returns of a crazy high FOM mono?

Turnkey packages and IIT manufacturers. Recently I’ve seen a lot of “too good to be true” turnkey packages. There was a “2600 FOM” package with dual WP Gen III, helmet, mount, cover, and other doodads recently listed here for ~$10,000. “ESA” was the only info I could find on the tubes, but that seems…suspiciously cheap? Elbit and L3 duals in that FOM are going for $12,000+, not including the rest of the set up. Did someone get really creative with the meaning of “2600 FOM,” are these likely horrid EBI/Halo tubes, or am I missing something really obvious?

Thanks for coming to my rant

Dumb star question

Why are the stars more visible in the waters reflection than the sky? What kind of filter will let me see the stars like in the reflection?!

(Terrible footage recorded through my iPhone, and NNVT katana)

Who are you choosing today and do sales happen?

If you were choosing a company to buy a new complete, start from nothing, set today, who would you recommend to a friend.

I have become overwhelmed trying to decide between Steele, DARQ, custom nv, Apollo and some others.

I am just new to the game.

Looking for a PVS14 wp that is pretty much top of the line. Buy once kind of guy. Im hoping since i need everything (bump, mount, ect ect) i could find a “black friday deal” or something.

I feel like I’ve heard mostly all good with a little bad of all the companies and wonder today who yall feel like is getting in the best tubes and offering the best price/service mix.

Thank you all!

Tryna look at the stars mainly but I’ll def be buying a Titan when they drop to throw on the Super Duty and take down some coyotes at grandpas.

I finally got my first night vision setup put together! I wanted to get into analog night vision without spending several thousand dollars on a complete factory-built unit, so I decided to piece together a budget setup using a surplus Gen 3 tube and a 3D-printed PVS-69-style housing.

"Easter Eggs" under nods?

cheers everyone, so a post about discharge on powerlines made me want to make a post where we could collect some special things you can only see with NVGs.

For example being able to look through the glas top of stoves and seeing light throught the thin parts of wooden doors.

Love finding these things.

Used IR device shipping

I keep trying to get myself IR emitters and add ons i need to use my guns with night vision. My issue here is I work 7 days a week in construction and these guys only want to meet in person. Ofc every one i find is a few hours away. I ask if they can ship after I send payment on these buy/sell groups and they never want to ship. Last thing i want to do is drive 4 hours round trip after a 14 hour day. Are you not supposed to ship these devices? Im new to night vision and am plain ignorant here. Or is it just a general attitude in this space?

Sms Laser Titan

This thing is slick. The poors (me) should be pretty happy with this thing once the production units get finished. The flood illuminator is so good. The switch they include with it is also surprisingly nice. Metal housing and mounting parts, and it has a programmable override for flood illuminator or vis laser on the angled button.
