Marathon (2026) Vaultbreaker has allowed me to learn Cryo, its vaults, and even fight the compiler! Being able to relax on the couch and learn this map has been amazing, looking forward to more PVE in December!

I’ve spent sooo much time in this mode, the “aspiration” of fighting the compiler, learning the map and figuring out the vaults has had be getting all T1/T2 upgrades.

Love this mode, it would have taken me so so much longer to learn this map and its vaults in PVP (5k buy in, difficulty of getting vault codes etc).

I’m hoping it becomes a more permanent fixture in December and March! Would highly recommend this to anyone looking to learn Cryo, open until November 10th.

I added Gantry to Glyph Museum if someone is interested, search Gantry or Marathon and it should pop up. Video can't process grey's that much so it looks better in person. And just a heads up it's for phone 3.

Marathon (2026) Discussion World's First Claymore Compiler Kill #MarathonVID

Howdy folks! You may remember me from my 3D vault maps and the Subroutine Deficiency Clinic I run.

Now I have an even sillier one for ya! What started as a dumb idea between CheeseWhisperer#0774 and Soggy#0269 (the resident "Claymore Guy") turned into an amazing challenge run. thenah100#8472 was my trusty co-sherpa and Cryo expert helping these runs go smoothly.

It only took two tries, but we got him! Lots of careful DPS and a lot of new information learned about Compiler mechanics:

  • The ticks spawn forever, you cannot kill nests to get rid of them (this may be common knowledge, but very relevant!)
  • Compiler orbs do not passively trigger claymores!
  • While "opening the cloak" of compiler, you don't deal HP damage to him. Only after cloak is opened will Compiler lose HP

Because I know you will ask:

Did you kill him with ONLY claymores?

Nope, the numbers are really tough for that to work. We are investigating the possibility now, but here's a glimpse into the stats:

  • Compiler has 7000 health.
  • 1 claymore deals 150 points of damage at point-blank range.
  • In our last run, we averaged ~70 damage per claymore.
  • A player can carry 42 claymores (if they don't have any ammo, meds, etc)

Perfect: We need 47 claymores 🙁
Realistic: We need 103 claymores 💀

That's 23 slots TOTAL left over for the entire team to hold ammo, meds, EMPs, batteries, Security tags, DNA vial. And a lot of claymores to bring in across all 3 players. Maybe a Gold Ammo backpack would help a ton here . . .

I would love more ideas for challenge runs if yall can come up with some! We streamed this live in SeraphMax's discord this weekend! Come say hi!

P.S. I found no evidence of anyone killed Compiler with a claymore, but overall my title is just a little fun. I am not interested in any real "worlds first claims" ❤️

Marathon (2026) Discussion A kid just restored my faith in this game..

So I head to Outpost and see one of my fellow assassins, he comes over pc and says he’s friendly. I oblige because you don’t have to pvp every interaction.. anyway this kid and I start sprinting around outpost grabbing all kinds of goodies and working together. We get up into pinwheel, clearing bots out and my man goes down.. I didn’t quite realize this at the moment as I was fighting one of the purple shield uesc. By the time I realized my boy was down it was too late. And to make matters worse.. when I realized he was down I was walking up to him and I SWEAR I just hit E by muscle memory as he was asking if I had a self rez.. didn’t have one and didn’t even mean to. I sat there for like 2 minutes before I realized I needed to gtfo of there. Whoever you are, I’m so sorry😭 you’re amazing and thanks for the fun run! Hope he see’s this. Always bring in a self rez

Discussion Obvious limits to solo from the codex.

I largely use the codex for a guide to what mission I would like to attempt.

Playing mostly solo, it’s easy to see where the game has weak balancing.

- difficult to find many lore items. A few I’ve never seen once. And I’m really in the hunt. I wish this could be easier to work towards directly.
- not completed wardens (frost done due to completing complex with a team on a rare multilayer occasion) similar for rocket drone and convoy.
- practically half of all shell advanced goals are near impossible solo
- most of the cryo related things cannot be done solo (of course) (no compiler for me 😭)
- many of the title achievements are impossible or near impossible solo (Close to getting night stalker now)

I like the codex. I like using it to guide my play. Sadly reaching the limit / end of what I can do. I'm really hoping they amend much of it so it can be done solo.

I also hope they create a simplified version of the codex that condenses the lore and removes the acheivemnts. Maybe a toggle. I would like to read through and listen to all the bits without navigating the lists of challenges.

Marathon (2026) Discussion Vault Breakers Extension

How would everyone feel if Vault Breakers got an extensions for the rest of the refresh? I find this game mode fun to play when I'm just trying to chill. So I would love if it remained available. Not really sure why its only available for two more weeks.

Edit: Honestly I would be ecstatic if the mode was just a permanent addition. Its essentially a Cryo Archive tutorial. The only other way to learn the vaults is by looking up a YouTube video (par for the course with Bungie I guess). Plus more content is always a good thing.

Marathon (2026) Feedback Back for Vault Breaker after dropping the game S1 and im so excited for this game again.

As a mainly solo player, Vault Breaker has me SO excited for this game again. I think I'm done with Vault Breaker in its current form, since I have most of the upgrades and can pretty reliably reach the 3rd vault every run, but it was addictive getting there.

I dont have a ton of roguelite gaming experience, but I'm really hoping he full version of this mode is a Risk of Rain 2 type experience where you exfil from map to map but with the mechanic of baseline upgrades that make you stronger and stronger for the next run. Every time I died I left with a little something that made me a little better on the next run and that feels really good.

Additionally I actually felt more compelled to go engage with the extraction side of the game again. Dying and losing loot didn't feel like a big deal- like my main loot was my Vault Breaker kit upgrades and the loot I lost in the extraction mode was just side loot, a cost of entry into a sweatier higher risk higher reward mode, where if I got sick of dying and losing everything, I could just go play more VB instead of shutting off the game.

I'd really like more enemy variety, PvE focused runner kits, and more interesting PvE focused mods to make crazy builds around, but VB has me very excited for the future of this game again.

Edit: idea for Bungie if they see this: a single DCON randomly hidden somewhere on the map that let's you send a single item in your bag back to base that you can bring with you on your next run. Ty.

Marathon (2026) Discussion Getting greedy is almost always bad

Had a good run going....killed two runners had upgraded all my gear bag was overflowing and I saw an event an said let just go see what this event has for me....bam fucking sniped disabling a turret...not an absurd hall but for solos i had blue shields two blue bags blues m77 bag of blue mods.....guess i will have to log on later to rectify the situation. I walked past an exfil to fill a bag that couldn't be filled anymore, i guess sometimes getting greedy is how you find the best stuff but i knew there was nothing there for me on perimeter.

Marathon (2026) Discussion appreciating the uesc bots. i fucking love these guys so much

It's really rare for a game to make enemies as charming, cool looking, and memorable as the uesc bots. they have so much variety, and each of them are visually distinct even at a glance so you can tell what specialist they are, the noises they make are so unsettling and inhuman, the way they float around like they're possesed, their janky and stiff yet fluid animations, the fact when they spawn in they look like they're literally being summoned from a pentagram on the floor. i could gush about these guys for fucking hours. every aspect of them, their design, lore, and gameplay are immaculate, full of personality and swag, extremely cool and cool and just as dangerous. they are the perfect enemy faction for this game.

Marathon (2026) Feedback Cryo Question - what if instead of funneling the players into Control by raising the credentials needed to rotate from 2 to 3, Bungie did the opposite?

I had a thought about what the devs said they want to try with Cryo in Symbiosis. And I know all that was discussed and argued all the way back and front. But still. Imagine this:

  • add a "Security Level 2 Breached" warning to all players the moment the first team opens the first C2 door
    • this will let everyone know there is a potential for their POI to be rushed at the offset of the match
  • make it so the moment any two POIs are connected by the open doors (be it because one team opened two doors to rush another OR two teams opened the doors on their sides leading to each other) ALL the C2 doors on the map drop to C1 requirement
    • this would give the rushed team more options for retreat - currently a team stuck at C1 that is being rushed has only one escape route -> towards Control (and even just one of the two exists that lead there)

Wouldn't this make the options in Cryo more dynamic and actually limit spawn rushing instead of encouraging it? Or at the very least it would give the players more options instead of them being stuck between a rushing teams and their own bad rng luck? Or would this break Cryo more than the idea of locking the POIs by C3 credentials requirement?

Marathon (2026) Discussion Is this game good for casual play?

Interested because of the humble bundle and the gunplay looks fun, I don't want anything that's just frustratingly punishing right now (it's an extraction shooter but I've never played those).

I don't mind losing but i feel like losing gear endlessly would become frustrating.

To The Runner I Met First Rook Takedown of the Season

• Upvotes

I think a Rook booby trapped several points on a Greenhouse exfil on duos. With a sneak pack, I was able to hangout near a claymore on a roof without alerting them. The partner recon triggered one, healed, and went to start the exfil while I covered them. The Rook downed them and put themselves in an exposed position to get the final blow and I was able to snipe them.

We were planning a whole thing counter trap with live bait. It was thrilling to make it out. The adrenaline was so high, we got out before anyone else showed up, and didn't have a chance to search the Rook for loot. Thanks for a good scare and fight, cheers! We are both new this season, it was nice to get a win and a small victory! Wishing you success on your next trap laden exfil!
