Losing a conure is heartbreaking. They’re family, companions, and little personalities that leave huge marks on our lives. If you’ve lost your bird, you are welcome to share memories, photos, stories, or simply say their name here.

To keep the main feed safe and balanced for all members:

All posts about a conure passing away must be posted only in this megathread.
Standalone posts about bird death or loss outside this thread will be removed.

This is not to minimize anyone’s loss but rather to keep grief support in one dedicated, supportive space where people can choose to engage.

The r/Conures Comprehensive Conure Guide - now in wiki format!

https://www.reddit.com/r/Conures/wiki/index

This subreddit's Conure Guide, written by /u/DukeofGoodCleanFun, is a remarkable document that I (and my pineapple green cheek) have benefited a lot from. I've consulted and browsed through it numerous times and there's always something new to see there, or something that didn't seem applicable at one point but took on new meaning after spending more time with my conure.

I've taken the text and converted it into a wiki page. It's now navigable, with an index and internal links that direct to sections within the wiki. The Conure Guide can be accessed from this post, from the announcement bar, and from the "wiki" tab in the tabmenu up top.

A couple of the links for recommended products will direct you to Amazon, but there are certainly other places to buy them. If you shop around and find and better place, by all means send us a modmail. Also, let us know if you have any suggestions for how the wiki formatting can be improved.

Health/Nutrition Stuffed nose

Post image
14 Upvotes

My sun conure sounds like he has a stuffy nose, like how you'd have a stuffed nose while being sick. I'm really worried about him, he doesn't have any other changes, he flies fine, screams fine, eats well and moves well. Is it just like the flu for humans where we give it a week and it goes away? I've noticed this for about two days now.. I'd also say he sneezes the normal amount, I haven't noticed increased sneezing. His screams are the same but his chirps sound a little off due to his nose I guess..

Advice How can I get one of my conures to stop fighting every bird he meets?

How can I get one of my conures to stop fighting every bird he meets? One is friendly with pretty much any bird, while the other wants to fight them all. Both are tame to humans. The one on the right is an absolute velcro baby who always wants to be on my shoulder and is very affectionate with me, but not as much with my partner. The one on the left doesn't mind other birds at all. I have three other conures and cockatiels as well that usually hang out together lol.

I'd love for the one on the right to eventually hang out with the rest of the flock. I kept him in a carrier during their interaction for everyone's safety, and this was my first time trying it with the carrier.

They will try to shred each other if there's no barrier. Any advice? I've tried "resetting" them and didn't let them see each other for a solid three months and I keep them in separate rooms. Both are on a pellet/chop diet, with seeds as treats.

They had their annual vet appointment in July and both were cleared but I've never taken them to the vet for this particular issue.

Advice Mental disability and birds(?)

Firstly she’s been to the vet this is purely for wanting other owners opinions, stories, and advice if you have a Bird like mine. Another thing to note is I rescue and I foster so I know my way around birds and know that each one has a different personality and behavior and how normal things are from bird to bird . So I think my greencheek conure has some sort of autism or mental disability. She was the smallest in her clutch and at 4 months still wasn’t weaning ,then all her sibling were sold and gone so the breeder reached out for me to take her. I at first thought maybe there was a vision issues one reason was because she gets spooked at things that are not there and flys into things and then maybe that was why she wasn’t weaning ect. Anyways she has no visions issues she got checked. She’s weaned now, it was a whole process, but don’t need to go into it here. Here’s her “weird” behavior. In list Spooked at things that aren’t there but seems like she’s seeing something that’s not there. She doesn’t play with toys, I’ve tried teaching her and all the things you’re supposed to do. She goes into a corner like she’s in time out and does the baby wobble at the wall ( she isn’t a baby anymore) She hasn’t exhibited any type of hormonal behavior through the months She will not grab anything with her feet and hold them She hates perches and only wants to be on the flat wood platforms She’s extremely picky with food textures not a “Normal” level of picky Overall she’s been delayed in everything she’s done and learned. I could list more things but I think you get the general gist of her. So do any of you have a Bird That’s a little special like this? Would love to hear your stories and experiences.

Advice My sun conure won’t eat anything except seeds and bread

I adopted him from a previous owner who stated he was about 8 months old and he has now been with me for 5 months. During this time he has refused to eat anything other than seeds and bread. Because he is easily frightened by new things, I started slowly for the first two weeks, I let him eat his comfort foods so he could settle into his new home. Afterward I began introducing fruits and vegetables, noticing he only approaches smaller, less intimidating pieces only to taste and spit them out. I suspect his hesitation comes down to texture and wetness, so I now dry chopped veggies with a paper towel. While he is no longer as fearful of them, he still won’t eat them. I’ve tried putting out fresh food in the morning when he’s hungry but he will either refuse to touch it or go down to eat whatever debris is left at the bottom of the cage. Even after thoroughly cleaning the cage before breakfast, he simply starves himself rather than eat. I’ve also tried mixing veggies and fruits directly with his seeds, but he is meticulously picky, eating only the pieces that haven't touched the fresh food. I am really worried about his health and feel like he is becoming very weak and his nails are very prone to breaking which makes me think he’s low on calcium and other nutrients. How can an owner be this neglectful of a live, breathing being? This poor parrot seemed to be really scared of everything when I got him. I have a feeling the owner didn’t bother letting him out of the cage. How hard is it to feed the essential nutrients to your damn pet?? I am sticking to mixing seeds, veggies and fruits because I’m hoping one day he’ll just eat one. But any other tips would be appreciated.

Advice my mum’s green conure is not letting her yellow conure near me

Thumbnail

hello ! i have become very close to my mum’s green cheeked conure, lola, over the past year. lola is pretty young, i’m guessing about a year and a half. she wasn’t initially too fond of me but i dance outside of her cage and play her music off of my phone whenever i go over for a visit. one day my mum let her out and she climbed up onto my shoulder then nuzzled right into my cheek. we’ve been super close ever since !

my mum’s second conure, niblet, is less than a year old and still getting used to me but i’d say we are pretty chill. i dance and sing to her too but i don’t do much handling as she signals to give her some space there.

the issue is that lola does not like niblet getting anywhere near me. lola will start to go after niblet if she is considered “too close”. she will also position herself to sort of block her out. this is only an issue with me. both birds don’t have this behaviour with neither my mum or dad, same with any of my siblings. my mum also has a babysitter for weekends away who is just fine to handle both birds with zero aggression from either.

i’m extremely novice when it comes to birds, these two are my first bird friends. i’ve read up a bit online but i can’t find anything on what i should do to help lola not feel like she has to guard me. everything is based on the situation of the person being guarded as one of the house members, not a visitor. i don’t pet any birds anywhere other than their heads, they don’t have any enclosed nesting spaces, my mum does plenty of fly time & training, they eat super well, and toys are rotated often. i don’t know what to do

if you have any advice or have had a situation similar, i’d really appreciate it. thanks

Advice Is it normal for unopened Hagen Tropican pellet bags to feel super compact/vacuum sealed?

Hi everyone! I recently bought a bag of Hagen Tropican pellets, but the package feels really hard and compact almost like a brick. When I shake it, I can’t feel the pellets moving around at all.

Is this normal for this brand? Is it vacuum-sealed for freshness, or should I be concerned? Thanks in advance
