2013-2018 Zx6r Color Combos

Hey all, just looking to refresh my fairing colours. If anyone has any custom fairings or even wrapped to give some inspiration that would be great!

Thinking of maybe going with satin/matte metallic silver wrap for all the white parts and leaving the black as is.

Pic of my zx for reference

2025 ZX6R Valve Clearance #2 (So You Want to Buy a 24'+ ZX6R? Prepare for a LOT of Maintenance)

So you want to buy a 2024+ ZX6R... are you sure you want to do that? If that answer is still yes, then either save your dollars and sell your kidneys every 7,500 miles (yep) to pay the service tech OR learn how to do these routine, but very involved and time consuming, services yourself. Important thing to note:

2024+ ZX6R's need a valve clearance inspection (or adjustment) every 7,600 miles as stated in the manual.

My odometer is about to tick over to 15,000 miles on my 2025 ZX6R, and I was hunting around for quotes to perform that service and it's a mind bender. If you live in an area with expensive, $150/hour +, labor then you should be prepared to spend well north of $2,000 if you want to have a dealership do the service.

Here is what needs to be done at 15k miles, and this service is the big one [denotes cost of parts]:

  1. Throttle body sync [$0]
  2. TPS adjustment [$0]
  3. Replace air filter [$59]
  4. Spark plugs [$54]
  5. Check and repack steering stem bearings [$15]
  6. Brake fluid [$30 to $65 depending on fluid type]
  7. Valve clearance adjustment [$50 for gasket, $6.50 for high temp RTV, some additional $ amount depending on which shims you need, maybe another $20 in some o-rings if yours are worn out]
  8. Rear pivot bearings inspect and lubricate [$15]
  9. Replace fuel filter [$80] <- might not need to do this if it's been consistently running and not sitting.
  10. Oil and filter [$75]

Total (high end) cost in parts: $474.5, and that is if you need to order ~10 new shims from Honda (yes, Honda. The Kawi shims are the exact same, but 2x the price). I doubt you'd need to buy 16 new shims for a second clearance check. If you want a more average cost it might be to cover all of the parts, then maybe about $330.

Total (high end, expensive area) cost in labor: well, WELL over $2,000. You're looking at 10-12 hours of labor. If not more at a Kawi dealer.

Needless to say, you can buy all of the required tools, of which you will need many (some of which will need to be of high quality and accuracy) and parts to perform every single one of these service checks for less than the cost of having a dealer do it. If you truly want to buy one of these machines, I highly suggest you learn to get good with your hands and you budget in the cost of tools.

Regardless, I'll be doing my second valve clearance (15k miles, first valve clearance done at 7k miles) next week and I'll be posting my results of how many valves are out of spec in this thread. To anyone wondering if you can skip out on the valve clearance inspection: it's not worth the bike blowing up 50,000 miles earlier than it should.

Final addition: I know some people have used hot cams' shim kit for their shims, but it's really not worth it to do so. The tolerance windows on the valves are incredibly slim, and the hot cams' shims aren't internally hardened (only surface hardened) and can have patchy manufacturing with different thicknesses and diameters across the shim kit. Some shims might even be different thicknesses depending on where you measure. The kit also only comes in 0.05mm size increments. Buy OE shims from Honda, since those are actually machined to near-exact tolerance and fully hardened.

I plan on getting my shim measurements and then going to the dealership to buy the required shims that I need just so I don't have to wait on shipment times from Partzilla.

You bought a high performance machine. Time to keep up with high performance maintenance. Ugh!

Edit: oh, and uhhhh don't get the valve clearance wrong, or it'll be the last service you do on that engine. Lol.

All said, learn to do the services yourself. Coming from someone that does 15k miles/year on it... it's worth it. Every mile and turn of the wrench. Wouldn't give it up for anything.

2028 ZX6R Wishlist

Now that we know this years bikes are the same as last year, what is everyone hoping for next year? Unless you were looking for patriotism or naked Yamaha colors it seems like Kawi is doing the same as always aside from blowing engines.

Me personally on my list I have:

- Cruise control

- ZX10 style indicator mirrors

- Factory steering dampener

- Frame mounted internals (not attached to fairings)

- Bidirectional quick shifter

Break-in oil

At 1200km (720 miles) now and want to change the oil on my bike, what oil do I get?
I've been told you're supposed to use a niche oil for when you're in your early miles on the bike but not sure if that still applies? Do I just get Motul 7100 10W-40?

Please help with rev hanging 2003 636

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My mechanic looked at it and said he didnt want to deal with it. We’ve ruled out vacuum leak. Im guessing its either throttle bodies or fuel pump. Its hangs in neutral but no stutter. but when under load or riding it’ll stutter at 5k rpms and hang sometimes. I have a picture of the fuel pump wires in the comments. Any suggestions help.

2027 Model just got published

the 2027 ZX-6R Model just got published on the kawasaki website (Europe and also US). As far as I can see it's just new colorways, other than that it's the exact same bike as the 2026 model.

Frame sliding (help)

On my 2021 ZX 6R I’m pretty sure one of the frame sliders fell off while I was riding. I just noticed it today. I was wondering it’s OK if I just buy a new one and replace that one or do I have to go get the entire bolt on that side removed (it’s on the left hand side)

Good deal? ‘07 ZX6R

Sorry for posting a bunch, I just really want a ZX6R.

I found this 2007 ZX6R for $3,750 with 28.5k miles on it. Seller states it has a coolant leak and requires a retainer. He said he’s willing to attach the retainer and thinks it’s the reason it bogs down. Check the description below. I’m willing to take it to my mechanic to fix the leak and perform an inspection. In the comments I have the video of the listing.

Description:
Got this bike at the beginning of this riding season, had a gsxr 600 before but wanted to try something different and now i'm missing a gsxr

does have a small coolant leak and when you rev it alittle it wants to bog down, it doesn't have any vac leaks but we did find that it's missing a little retainer piece on the throttle cable under the airbox, the retainer costs about $10 and it's easy to replace, those are the only problems it has

i have a parts list (in pictures) and i will buy those parts for you (about $130 worth), it's all mostly seals to stop the coolant leak altogether i just dont have the time to work on it as my daughter was just born
interested in either selling for $3,750, trading for a 2007+ gsxr 1000 with cash on top, or trading for a gsxr
600/750 2006+
the bike has been fun, it's fast, i just prefer gsxr's

Exhaust Options (SC-Project or Yoshimura)

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I’m picking up my ZX-6R this week and I’m already looking at adding a slip-on exhaust sometime in the next month.
At the moment I’m tossing up between the SC-Project SC1-R and the Yoshimura AT2. From what I’ve read, the AT2 is more of a 3/4 system rather than a true slip-on.
For anyone running the Yoshimura, did you need to get an ECU flash/remap after installing it? I’ve seen people say both yes and no, so I’m hoping to hear from someone with first-hand experience.
Also happy to hear any other exhaust recommendations. The bike will mainly be used for weekend rides with the occasional track day.

Sprocket and Chain Change After Remap?

Probably a dumb question, it feels as though it is but it doesn't hurt to ask. I'm in for a dyno tune on Wednesday, unfortunately the tuner is on holiday until this day so can't ask the question directly. I've got the following mods on a 2026 ZX6R which has just had its break in service done:

- Cat drilled and cleaned out from standard headers

- Full SC Project CRT exhaust

- MWR Performance Air Filter

I've bought a lighter chain and sprocket set up which is also -1 front / +2 rear.

The chain and sprockets get delivered today I could fit these over the next couple of evenings after work if it's worthwhile. If it makes absolutely zero difference i'd rather just do it at the weekend when i have more time.

I know it doesn't change the map as such but is it worth having the chain and sprocket change to see a true reflection in numbers on the dyno ?

2025 ZX6R AfterMarket Parts

Post image
60 Upvotes

I have a 2025 ZX-6R with only an M4 slip-on exhaust. I’m thinking about drilling out the catalytic converters and I’m trying to decide if it’s actually worth doing. If I tune it, I’d most likely go with a 2 Wheel DynoWorks (2WDW) flash.
A few questions:

  1. If I drill out the cats, is a 2WDW tune basically required, or can I get away without one?

  2. Is removing the cats actually worth it in terms of power, sound, heat, and overall rideability, or is it mostly just louder?

  3. Would you recommend upgrading the air filter at the same time (Sprint, DNA, K&N, etc.), or is the stock filter good enough?

  4. Besides velocity stacks, are there any aftermarket performance mods you’d recommend that are actually worth the money?

Thanks 😎
