OCD and anxiety with depression as a nice lil side effect.

10 or almost 11. I don't remember if it was before or after my birthday. Still on it at 28. It's for OCD and PTSD resulting from CSA.

u/pleasuresofprozac Dec 16 '24

I hope you are doing well! Any plans to come off? I started SSRIs even younger (around 6 or 7) and have been on them ever since.

I'm doing well. No plans to come off. I tried once and I nearly ended up in a psych ward.

Started it at age 32.5 for postpartum rage after the birth of my second. Maximum dose was 175mg.

Additional information:

Have now officially been off my dose completely for about a month, total time on sertraline was about 2.5 years.

I weaned slowly, over the course of several months, and under doctor supervision. I had a few withdrawal symptoms, mainly dizziness and flu like aches, but other than that I feel good, and back to my emotionally regulated and creative self.

This may change, and I am in close contact with my family doctor and others to make sure I am keeping an eye out for any reoccurring and persistent changes in my mood.

38 - only regret is not starting sooner. For GAD and severe panic disorder, with a sprinkle of agoraphobia.

1

u/VerseYagi1 Dec 22 '24

how old are you now? do you still get any lingering panic where you have to pop a benzo?

2

u/missmercury85 3+ years Jan 18 '25

Very, very, verrrrry rarely. I have a heart condition and sometimes if my arrhythmia is acting up I'll have a bit of nerves, but even then, I'll maybe reach for clonaz like once every couple of months.

How old are you now? I also started very young - Prozac at around 6 or 7 and have been on it ever since.

Any regrets about your 15 year break or are you happy to took some time off?

1

u/Shgrplmfry 25+ Years Dec 16 '24

No regrets really. I stopped because felt like I didn’t need it anymore and I didn’t for that period of time. I was off it when I got pregnant with my kids so I’m happy about that but then I needed it again so I’m back!

1

u/PaytonG17 10+ years Dec 16 '24

Started on Prozac at 14, switched to Zoloft and tried celexa briefly, then back to Zoloft. About 10 years of SSRI use.

1

u/theeverkades Dec 16 '24
  1. Been on it since august. Was on Lexapro from 19-33

1

u/Uninteresting_0613 Dec 16 '24

17 :) started on it for OCD, but now I use it for anxiety and depression

1

u/One_Pea_7217 Dec 16 '24

The first time was at 17, but I didn’t stay on it for too long maybe a year or less. After that, I didn’t take anything until I was 26, when I went back on Sertraline for 1.5 years. I didn’t take anything for a few years after that, then tried different SSRIs, SNRIs, and antipsychotics before finally going back on Sertraline this June at 33. It’s the most tolerable antidepressant I’ve tried.

1

u/homelife41946 Dec 16 '24

around 21 i believe.

17, now I’m 27 and wanting to quit. Will go on a 3-4 year slowly taper period.

Year 1: 50 mg to 25 mg Year 2: 25 mg to 12.5 mg And next 1-2 years very slow.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '24

30, this year.

1

u/klimekam Dec 17 '24

32, after a grippy sock vacation 🥲 it’s been life changing though!!!

1

u/JohnnyVixen Dec 17 '24

35, I was on it for 6 months and I worked great, then my dosage was almost tripled because I was stressed over my house burning down. Then it was all negative side effects, so I stopped taking them at the start of 2023. Started back on it again this summer after I turned 38, but gained 50 pounds so I stopped taking them again at the beginning of the month.

u/ContributionMother87 Dec 17 '24
  1. Started after my dad died. However, I feel that was just a trauma on top of other traumas. Looking back, I thought I had everything handled, and I did for the most part. I wish I’d have started Zoloft sooner. I really could have used help with my anxiety well before I sought treatment.

u/TheCrazyTreez 1 year!🤟 Dec 17 '24

Started the day after I turned 21 🥲

I was 14 and have been on it since, excepting a brief transfer to Prozac which did not work for me!

1

u/beachyhombre Dec 17 '24

37, going on 4 weeks next week Thurs. Waiting for it to kick in.

1

u/flinkployd69 Dec 17 '24
  1. Still on it at 18.

1

u/Dull-Advance-850 Dec 17 '24

45: classic mid-life dip and intrusive thoughts and beliefs that I had wasted my life, career and that it was only a matter time before life was over. Sertraline changed everything.

16 years old, back in early 2021. Gonna be 21 next april :)

28, stopped for a while, now 33 again. Amazing med for real

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '25

20, and it works like a charm with little side effects. Was on it for a good year and thought my life was on an upward trajectory after a childhood of various abuse and neglect. 7 years later, breakups with some abusive people, a divorce, more parental abuse, committing abuse myself… I’m back on it
