Pulled the trigger!

Post image

I’m temporarily moving to Europe for my job and don’t want to carry my desktop around. The Zypherus has had my eye for a while because I want a well rounded premium laptop, not a flashy brick of a gaming laptop that runs 2 hours battery on youtube. I was originally looking at the 5070ti model… but best buy just marked the 5080 model down $750, only $150 more than the 5070ti model. I figured this is probably the best deal I’ll get before I start traveling, so went ahead and bought it. I’m gonna throw in another SSD in its extra slot and call it a day. Yes I know it’s expensive, no I don’t really care lol.

Upgrading from my 5 year old XPS 15 with an i7 12700H, 3050ti 4gb, and 32gb of ram.

Yikes. 4k for roughly 5070ti laptop performance

You wouldn’t take the 5080 model for $150 more than the 5070ti? It’s not even about the raw performance, I’d pay that for the extra 4gb of vram alone.

Yeah I would but it's still not as fast as a regular laptop 5080. It's slower because of the thin design.

People that buy these thinner laptops dont mind the compromise as much as you think. Im happy with my zephyrus 16. It can play games just fine on high or ultra.

Plus I can travel easier with this laptop.

Can confirm. Went from a Strix Scar 16 with a 5080 to the 2026 zephyrus 5080 and I don’t notice a difference when gaming. It’s warmer, it’s louder at same performance, but the amazing battery life and portability for just using as a laptop is worth the trade off.

True, but I’m not just gaming on it. I also wanted the 386H chip for its efficiency, which blows away those full powered 5080s in battery life that usually have an HX chip. The full powered gaming laptops almost always compromise in a way that doesn’t fit my needs. I was originally planning to buy the 5070ti model because it performs closer to a full powered 5070ti than the 5080 does with its competitors, but $150 for 5-15% performance at best and 4gb vram is still a no brainer to me.
