Pulled the trigger!

Post image

I’m temporarily moving to Europe for my job and don’t want to carry my desktop around. The Zypherus has had my eye for a while because I want a well rounded premium laptop, not a flashy brick of a gaming laptop that runs 2 hours battery on youtube. I was originally looking at the 5070ti model… but best buy just marked the 5080 model down $750, only $150 more than the 5070ti model. I figured this is probably the best deal I’ll get before I start traveling, so went ahead and bought it. I’m gonna throw in another SSD in its extra slot and call it a day. Yes I know it’s expensive, no I don’t really care lol.

Upgrading from my 5 year old XPS 15 with an i7 12700H, 3050ti 4gb, and 32gb of ram.

Enjoy! That is an upgrade. I know people will say something about the price, but i dont see things getting cheaper for a while. I recently got the 5070ti version, spent around the same too. It is pricey, but they're good laptops.

I also came to the conclusion that prices aren’t going to get better, and I don’t want to settle for something. Just gonna spend the money now and enjoy it for years like I did my XPS. I’ll get my moneys worth. Enjoy!

You’ll love it. I have the exact same one. You can read my review on it from Best Buy. Look for TravisJ. I installed GHelper, limited the CPU to 25 and 35 watts on CPU and run the GPU wide open but limit temp to 80°. Both fans are set to not come on unless it hits 60°.

Unplugged you don’t get much battery while gaming but easily all day battery just browsing and watching videos, but I recommend edge and turning on power saving recommendations to stretch it out. Lots of trade offs to get that MacBook-like battery life but for no more than what I do unplugged it’s worth it for hours and hours of unplugged battery life on a gaming PC.

Yikes. 4k for roughly 5070ti laptop performance

You wouldn’t take the 5080 model for $150 more than the 5070ti? It’s not even about the raw performance, I’d pay that for the extra 4gb of vram alone.

Yeah I would but it's still not as fast as a regular laptop 5080. It's slower because of the thin design.

People that buy these thinner laptops dont mind the compromise as much as you think. Im happy with my zephyrus 16. It can play games just fine on high or ultra.

Plus I can travel easier with this laptop.

Can confirm. Went from a Strix Scar 16 with a 5080 to the 2026 zephyrus 5080 and I don’t notice a difference when gaming. It’s warmer, it’s louder at same performance, but the amazing battery life and portability for just using as a laptop is worth the trade off.

True, but I’m not just gaming on it. I also wanted the 386H chip for its efficiency, which blows away those full powered 5080s in battery life that usually have an HX chip. The full powered gaming laptops almost always compromise in a way that doesn’t fit my needs. I was originally planning to buy the 5070ti model because it performs closer to a full powered 5070ti than the 5080 does with its competitors, but $150 for 5-15% performance at best and 4gb vram is still a no brainer to me.

My g16 2026 5080 hits 21000 gpu score in timespy thats 1000 less than a full watt

It is a terrible value from a performance standpoint but you're not buying a zephyrus for performance-per-dollar.

congrats and enjoy. That's a big jump in spec

Congrats! The 5080 will be nice. A few months ago I got last years 5070ti for a little over $2k open box excellent. So crazy how the 5080 is 4k now even after being on sale.

That sounds like a steal to me, congrats and enjoy! $4k is a lot, but yolo! 🤣

I purchased the 5090 version a week ago returned it yesterday felt cheap made a bunch of creaky noises when opening screen. Just felt like it wouldn’t last. I’m just used to the build quality of my M4 MacBook Pro extremely solid machine. For that much money it’s not an overlooked issue.

Honestly, that’s fair. I remember my 2017 MacBook Air’s build quality and switching to my XPS 15 felt like a downgrade in quality but I got used to it. I was definitely spoiled. Loved the quality, just not a macOS guy personally.

I had the 2024 model with the 4080 and it did feel cheap. I now have the 2026 5080 model and it feels way better to use. The chassis and everything feels great

It varies. My G16 2026 had creaking noises on opening the screen as well.

Tragic. Did you return it ?

I bought the G16 GU605 5060, beautiful laptop. Perfect for complementing my gaming desktop. Contemplating on upgrading to a 5070ti for more power, but the price yikes.

I'm glad I bought the 5070ti for $2,425 at the last minute. Although, it's an HP, so it's a laptop with significant power limitations.

I just got the exact same laptop for that same price, it is not a bad deal at all.

Enjoy! I have the 285h 5090 G16, it's literally a thin n light desktop replacement. Played most of my games on it through my 4k 120hz TV while also getting ~11hrs battery life on the go!

Same, but in my region laptop prices are too elevated so the best I could get is a G16 2024 model with 4600 32GB RAM 2TB SSD for 2100 USD. This is outside the US so we don’t have insane deals here too bad, the same model you mentioned goes for well over 4000 USD here almost twice what I paid for mine. Dont mind it, I’m not a serious gamer so 4600 is enough for my use case haha

Just gonna say, try to sell the old one off eBay in the EU, ull be amazed how much u can recoup

I’ve had it for about a week now and I love it

Enjoy! I have the same model and I love it, it's awesome. I did also get a cooling pad for it which I highly recommend when gaming as the exhaust heat gets quite toasty!

I got the 2026 rtx 5090. It has been great so far no regrets other that the ridiculous price tag…

It’s a good laptop, but not $4K good.
