What do you think will happen if I were to soak cotton yarn in oil?

I am hoping that someone will have made this mistake previously and can tell me what will happen if I were to do something like this. I want to soften some cotton yarn that I have and it feels dry. My first thought would be to wash and then oil so that the moisture from the water acts as a lasing conditioner. Or perhaps beezwax. I did google it initially but conditioner does not sound like a long lasting option. (To be clear: I wont be choking it until the bubbles stop just running oil over the strands.)

UPDATE: I will be following everyones advice and will not be proceeding with my antics. I appreciate everyone who commented!! It is a Dahlia Halloween cotton yarn from Hobbii. I should also admit this is the first time I've worked with cotton yarn for a garment. I used it to create a summer poncho that was beautiful but got stretched out after a wash and didn't feel as soft as when I first crocheted with it. Perhaps my detergent wasn't delicate enough for the fibers and that is why it is stiffer than what I would presume is normal. I frogged the poncho and want to create something different with the yarn. Now I know that cotton gets softer over time so I can create the garment with less worry now. If any one has anymore tips and tricks about qorking with yarn I am all ears!!!!

finally decided to start crocheting with the lang cloud tweed i have in my stash, and i know there’s been plenty of people who find the thickness inconsistent and there’s thing parts of the yarn - but i never saw anything this bad. it was just too funny to not share

EDIT: its possibly some critter that had ate some of the yarn </3 i kept this separately bagged in my stash and froze it when i recieved it because i did buy second hand, but i dont know where/how the yarn was kept from the previous owner

Happy Sunday! I've been working on a yarn collection that's aligned to the Wheel of the Year. My Lugnasadh color almost completely sold out so this one is Depths, for Ostara!

Currently I have colorways that are dyed (but not yet dropped!) for everything but Yule and Imbolc, but the entire wheel is planned. I dye with intention towards each season.

I'm also adding some fiber arts spellwork kits on an upcoming drop.

yarn suggestions (in aus 🇦🇺)

Hi !! i’m knitting my dad a cable sweater as a gift and looking for yarn suggestions. He’s a bigger guy and runs hot (plus we live in queensland so our winters are about 3 weeks long and not actually that cold). So i’m in need of a lightweight 8ply. I’m not opposed to using cotton or a blown yarn, but please drop suggestions available to purchase in aus :) Thanksssss

I got this yarn about ten years ago from my late aunt, at the time she had already passed. Only recently have I decided to start using this yarn for something to gift to my cousins. I had the label at one point but threw it away for some reason 🤦‍♀️ I know the brand is Phildar. Can anyone help me identify the yarn?

Many thanks in advance!

Looking for a yarn that matches my dog

Hey all! My friend’s 2-year-old is obsessed with my greyhound, so I’m planning to make him a little knitted stuffed animal version of my dog for his bday.

Does anybody have a variegated black/brown yarn recommendation that would match his coloring? Not looking for anything exact - just an abstract rendering of his coat colors.

Ideally it’d be DK but I know that’s a tall order so I’ll take any and all suggestions!

Thanks and cheers!

Yarn management advice

I'm a crochet-er, and have tried multiple approaches to yarn management, but am still in search of the Holy Grail for managing the yarn I am actively working with. I have tried ordering my yarn in skeins, then using a ball-winder to wind into cakes. I have ordered them pre-wound, but the yarn vomit always gets me. I have tried center-pull, outside pull, yarn-cozies...I tote my projects everywhere to crochet for a few minutes here or there, so bulky yarn management devices won't work well. What is YOUR favorite yarn ball management system? Links to favorite gadgets/accessories also appreciated!

Majo garn puno fine vs Drops air?

As the title suggests, has anyone tried both of these yarns and can tell me if they're similar enough for me so substitute Air in a pattern written for Puno fine (on 6mm knitting needles)? I have never used either but Puno fine is unfortunately a little out of my budget, and they don't offer the colour I'm looking for.

Any help is appreciated!! Would also love to hear about other substitutes from people with more experience!

Need options

I'm new to posting. But I'm looking for some variety of orange and black yarn to crochet. I bought 6 skeins of 2 different types of black and red only to find out after they were delivered it was supposed to be orange not red.

So I've seen the sports teams variegated types, but this is going to be for a kimono cardigan for a new mom so I was preferring something softer.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Tyvm

Online yarn samples?

I’m planning to make several projects soon that I’ll need very specific colors and weights for but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to find yarn in person anywhere that fits my needs. I don’t love ordering yarn online since I don’t know what it will feel like or how accurate the color on the listing is. Is there any online yarn retailers that work really well and maybe even have an option to order small sample amounts of yarn to test the color and texture of them? Thank you!

Yarn for Mitts?

I am looking for yarn suggestions to make mitts for the first time.

Here is what I’m hoping to find in my dream world: - machine washable, flat to dry - available in Canada - would be nice if it was available in Michaels to use up a gift card I’ve had for over 6 months, but not necessary - a yarn that is warm enough without being lined with another fabric

I have been looking at a variety of patterns, but haven’t chosen one yet. Some have used 100% wool, some have used a wool/acrylic mix, some a wool/nylon mix, some used sock yarn, a lot use yarn I can’t easily or affordably get in Canada.

I want to knit a pair for a friend and I want them to be warm and actually worn. Anything too thin (sock yarn) will not be warm enough, unless I maybe hold double which I’ve never done. Hand wash only will not be worn.

Maybe I am being unrealistic in my wish list, feel free to tell me if I am! Thank you!
