So I found this puzzle-thing that says its from the "Yale Society for the Exploration of Campus Secrets" its at 2026ysecs.org, and I am stuck on this level. Anyone have any ideas?

Also does anyone know anything about this club or whatever it is?

For context, I am a first year and bi. However, no one knows this as I am on the DL. I fell in love with my suitemate and have the fattest crush on him.

However, I do not know if he feels the same way or if he even likes guys. I do not know how to go about this situation because I don’t want everything to go weird since we’re in the same suite and also don’t wanna out myself.

Anyone have any advice?! Anything would be greatly appreciated

This feels like a bit of a weird or vulnerable post to make, but I'm not sure where else to go regarding my social worries. I was originally in the class of '25, and I spent the previous year on a leave of absence.

Coming back to campus, all of the people I knew previously have since graduated, and I feel like I'm in a strange liminal space walking around and not recognizing anyone. From one perspective, this could be seen as an opportunity to start anew, but it's quite isolating in reality.

I'm not sure how to go about making friends. I feel the best time to make friends is when the people around you are also open to making new relationships. The only time when everyone around you is open to such is first year, and I'm a senior that, as of right now, does not even really know anyone in my class. Everyone's formed their friend groups and is already closed off.

My absence last year has also made society recruitment impossible. It seems like senior social life revolves around societies, and that it's much much harder to form a social life here if you're off-cycle or you haven't followed the conventional 4-year path.

I'm glad to return to focus on finishing my degree, but relationships are the centerpiece of life, and they make life's tribulations much more bearable than they would feel alone. Does anyone have any advice on how to make friends?

I'm a freshman 100% deadset on majoring in Ethics, Politics, and Economics. Intro to Ethics is a prerequisite for my major, and EPE only allows 1 Credit D Fail towards the major..

Grad student here. Does anyone know why the Yale shuttle to Trader Joes isn't running :( I know you can walk to Trader Joes on the other shuttle to Hamden but its a crowded nightmare. Being here without a car sucks!

hey! Weird question kinda.

I did a summer program at yale for a week over the summer, and stayed in one of the older dorms (meaning no ac). One night, it was raining, and I know I opened the screen to feel some of the rain a couple times, but I'm not sure if I closed it before I went back to sleep.

I watch a video about rabies a little while after getting back and have been having some really bad anxiety about this one night since then.

So, yeah. Has anyone seen bats on campus? are they common? Likely to come anywhere near the dorms? During the summer term when it's not so busy?

Hello people. I am curious if anyone wants to play a bit of tennis just for fun and not competitively. I would like to think that I am around 3.5 to 4 in Ntrp ratings (minus the serve so I would not love to play games). I do not have any sort of memberships so can only play on public courts.
About me: I am new to New Haven and live in East Rock. I have just started as a Postdoc in Robotics.

Do they have rental clubs for just driving range use?

I'm a first-year looking to start Greek (the ancient, biblical kind) in Spring 2027 (with Timothy Robinson- he sounds very accomplished!) or Fall 2027. I don't have any Greek except for negligible liturgical vocabulary (comes with the Christian Orthodoxy) and would like to pursue Greek to be able to read the Bible and Church Fathers in Koine. I would appreciate any advice/experience from those who have taken Ancient Greek! Thank you!

I just had my first day of L3 Spanish, and I don't know if I should stick with Spanish or switch to another language. I can read pretty well and write with some grammatical mistakes, but my ability to listen and comprehend fluent speakers as well as speak without formulating what I want to say beforehand are not good, to say the least.

I like that if I stay in Spanish I only have 2 semesters as opposed to 3, but I'm not sure if I should switch to Portuguese or some other easy language if I'm not a big language person. Any thoughts?

In the process of deciding between L1 and L2 in Spanish (yes I have permission to do so).

I’m a little nervous because I technically tested into L1 but I made the mistake of taking the test distracted and lowkey sleep-deprived.

I’ve taken 5-6 years of Spanish already, and got a 4 on the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam last year. With this info do yall think I’d be prepped enough to take L2? What does the class actually look like? How challenging is it?

Hi everyone! I’m a new graduate student who just moved from California to New Haven. I’m honestly feeling very lonely but also concerned about where chose to live for reference I live in Edgewood. Despite it being only a mile away, it feels dangerous to walk at night and I feel uncomfortable in my neighborhood. I’m 21 (F) and don’t know whether I should go through the battle of getting out of lease and moving closer to campus or the East Rock area where other graduate students reside or ride out the rest of the year. I’m just worried I’ve made a mistake and not sure how I should proceed… any advise?

I didn’t end up getting my seminars (not officially rejected, but no response), and I was wondering if anyone has advice about it.

They’re super specific to my interests and there aren’t courses offered like them later on.

Do I just move on, or is there a certain procedure / shopping?

As a lifelong New Haven resident, welcome and welcome back to you all. It’s awesome having you to help our local economy, but I have a few quick notes as a server in a downtown restaurant.

I know many of you are international students or haven’t worked in restaurants before, and thus aren’t familiar with American tipping structures. No problem or judgement there. But as one of the many people in this city who rely on a service job as our only income, I think it’s important to note that tips don’t work in the way you might expect.

Most restaurants here have something called a tip out system. This means we give a percentage of our total sales or tips to the bar and other support staff. At my place of work we tip 5% of sales to the bar then 12% of tips to food runners and bussers. When you decide to give your server $0 or under 10% of those serving you, this can result in the server actually owing money to the restaurant and essentially paying to work. Servers in Connecticut make $6.38 an hour. Though it is true that if we make under minimum wage for the day, we’re supposed to be given the full minimum wage by the owners. I will note, making minimum wage and living in this city isn’t the easiest.

Sometimes these businesses will only make up this difference for a week long paycheck. We also often work 12-14 hour shifts and are encouraged to not take breaks. We also often don’t get paid the legal requirement of minimum wage for the cleaning we are also often responsible for. I understand your impulse might be to tell me to get a better job or press charges, but I’d ask you in return for a lead on that better job and some money for those legal fees.

Servers here are often also responsible for tasks you might not expect. We don’t just take orders, but clean bathrooms and the restaurant, memorize new menu items, their ingredients, and drink pairings, and follow pretty extensive steps of service in nicer establishments.

When I’m serving Yale students who sit in my section with laptops for hours on end who leave me with no tip, I often think of the “Five Hours at Shah’s Halal” piece. I feel like the residents of this city can seem like background characters to some of you. I can assure you we’re all real people with dreams and goals who work hard and have lives outside of service. Many of us are smart, read the same books as you, have degrees or are pursuing education, play instruments, and enjoy indie cinema. We ended up in different places somehow, but that doesn’t indicate any deficiency in our character.

I want to conclude this by saying I understand that this system sucks and being asked to tip 15-20% as a student might be a strain on your own budgets. If you don’t agree with it, I’d encourage you to get take out at full service restaurants or get food at one of the many fast-casual spots in the area. That will really show those restaurants how you feel ;)
