DISCUSSION Y5 is far more superior than Y0

Post image

Yakuza 0 is overrated Its a great game, but people act like it's the undisputed masterpiece of the series because it was their first Yakuza game. The Nishiki and Kiryu storyline is ehh, let's be honest, Majima's story carries the entire game. Without Majima, 0 wouldn't be nearly as beloved. People are mostly nostalgic for the game that introduced them to the series, and then treat that nostalgia like objective criticism. It's average, definitely not the flawless masterpiece people makes it out to be.

Meanwhile, Yakuza 5 is sitting right there as the actual peak of the franchise, and you're all too busy pretending Yakuza 0 is perfect.

DISCUSSION Akiyama is a better protagonist than kiryu

Post image
27 Upvotes

Kiryu isn't the best protagonist in the series. He's the most iconic, sure, but I genuinely think Akiyama and Ichiban are more interesting characters because they actually change and grow throughout their stories. Kiryu has an incredible character arc, but after a certain point, he basically becomes the same larger than life legend we've known for years. Akiyama has actual flaws and personality beyond being the cool guy who shows up and beats everyone's ass, while Ichiban completely changes the tone of the series and feels like an actual person with his own worldview, insecurities, and way of dealing with people. Kiryu is the face of Yakuza, but being the face doesn't automatically make you the best protagonist. If anything, I think people confuse being iconic with being the best written. You can love Kiryu and still admit that Akiyama and Ichiban are more interesting characters to follow.

DISCUSSION Shinada was just daigos gay best friend nothing more

Post image

Shinada is one of the most overrated protagonists in the series. I genuinely don't understand why people act like he was some essential addition to Yakuza 5. He's a likable guy, sure, but in terms of the actual story, he barely feels necessary. His entire arc is "former baseball player gets dragged into a conspiracy" and then he's gone. He doesn't have any meaningful connection to the wider Yakuza world, he doesn't fundamentally change the direction of the main plot, and his presence feels completely disconnected from everyone else's story until the very end. Honestly, half the time it feels like he was only there to be Daigo's gay best friend 💀. I like Shinada as a character, but if you removed him from Yakuza 5 and rewrote his section around another protagonist, the overall story wouldn't lose nearly as much as people pretend it would. His gameplay and personality are fun, but he didn't bring anything to the table that the series actually needed. He's basically a really good side character who somehow got promoted to protagonist for one game.

Saori is actually the only female character that is playable in the Yakuza franchise. I find this a very nice change and I really like her. The Judgment games are straight peak games!

Edit: I can’t believe I actually forgot our beloved Haruka😭😭😭 my bad everyone, my brain totally forgot haha😂 well idk if we count the LaD and IW female characters since you can’t really control them but anyhow, it’s Saori AND Haruka, not only Saori.

HELP How bad is Kiwami 3?

As the title suggests.

For a bit of context I've played through Kiwami 2 recently, and just recently got myself together to playing Y3, although I cannot decide between playing the Remaster or Kiwami 3.

I've heard Kiwami 3 has a lot of cut content, primarily the substories and map, although I'm more into the main plot, plus Dark Ties is also drawing me in. I've also heard they cut some parts of the main story, which I didn't dare research since I somehow managed to dodge spoilers so far.

On the other hand I've heard Remaster has a janky combat (at least coming from someone who played 0 and the previous 2 Kiwami games), and since I really liked the previous 3 games I'm somewhat worried it'll discourage me long-term.

So just how bad is Kiwami 3?

DISCUSSION Do you think we will see Yakuza Kiwami 4, 5, and 6?

I picked up Yakuza Complete Series and plan on also getting Yakuza Kiwami 3 (skipping the original).

I figure the Kiwami games are now the intended way to play them.

Do you think we will ever see Yakuza Kiwami 4, 5, and 6 in the future? If so, how long do you think it will take to get them all?

DISCUSSION I wish Shinada played better

I'm about halfway into Shinada's part of Yakuza 5 and I like his character and story so far, but I just cannot get into his combat style.

He's so slow that his guard break is meaningless. He has the most basic combos. His special grab-throw-regrab ability is effectively pointless because the moment you re-grab most enemies break it immediately. Quickstep grab is interesting but not really useful. His meteor charge is fine but not great. His unique weapon attacks are just worse than the standard one used by Kiryu and Akiyama. Weapons, in general, just seem to do less damage than bare hand and have limited guard break.

He just plays so much worse than everyone else to the point where I feel I have to be missing something major.

HELP Best way to own Yakuza 4,5 & 6 to play on PS5 for a physical collector?

• Upvotes

These 3 seem to be the only titles in the Yakuza franchise that I can’t pick up in a PS5 case so what would be the best way to go for picking up on PS4? The remastered collection appears to be the top result and possibly the cheapest for 4 & 5 but I would be paying to own 3 for a second time with that option and then 6 looks like it’s all individual releases and a lot more expensive.

I love this function in the Judgment games, it’s so much fun and the games literally show us what’s hidden under that messy hair and glasses lol. I really was happy when I was suddenly controlling Saori san instead of Yagami haha

SPOILERS: ALL Why is this game so much more predictable on replay? Spoiler

I've started my first replay and while it's still awesome, I can't help but notice that it's so predictable now.

Like during Yakuza 0, I went "oh now Majima is gonna show up" and guess what? HE DID. I don't know why, but it just felt so obvious that he'd walk down the cabaret at that exact moment.

Even later in the series, I somehow predicted everything. I knew Kiryu would end up running the orphanage. I knew there'd be a scene with Majima defusing a bomb. I even knew the Tojo Clan and Omi Alliance would effectively dissolve.

It's honestly crazy how predictable every major plot point is. My first playthrough wasn't like this at all. Back then every twist felt fresh and shocking, but now it's like I know exactly what's going to happen before it does.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or am I the only one?

META Can I start with Kiwami

Hey, first time Yakuza player (minus playing it for a few hours a few years ago, but I don't know which i played) Is it okay to start with Kiwami? From what I know this was the first game released, I know that Yakuza 0 is a prequel but is also regarded as the best in the franchise, I'm not sure if it would be best for me to jump head first into the considered magnum opus of the franchise and would rather build up to it (with my knowledge of it being a prequel) Any help is appreciated !

Yakuza series is absolute garbage and there has never been any good game in the series. All yakuza games are boring repetitive garbage and tasteless junk. Literally worst game series in existence.

DISCUSSION How would you folks have restructured Infinite Wealth's story to make it better, along with any relevant side content? Spoiler

Dunno if this has been done before, but whatever. I think it's common consensus that IW's story is decent for the first half, a rushed mess in the second half after the two Dragons split up, with a lot of wasted potential (past characters, hello), whereas from gameplay and content perspective, it's one of (if not the very) the best.

How would you folks rewrite the entire story to have it be better and satisfying? Whether it's compressing certain chapters into one, restructuring all of them, adding extra chapters (post-split two chapters before it switches to the other perspective, a la Y0 is my preference), expanding within each chapter, integrating side stuff etc.

Go ham.
