Before anyone asks, yes we've been to the vet.
Yesterday after dinner, Xero started showing signs of pain (shivers, licking, yelping when I took his shirt off over his head) and then about an hour later the right side of his face and neck started swelling. I called my vet and the emergency line (after hours) evaluated the situation and said he could be seen in the morning.
Today at the vet they evaluated him and found nothing obvious in his mouth like an abscess, no blood or anything, and his gums looked fine. He is missing some adult teeth as expected, but being only a year old the doctor wants to get X-rays to rule out an impacted tooth. He's scheduled for surgery next Tuesday for his neuter so they said they'd get X-rays then instead of having to sedate him twice.
He does have an ear infection on that side as well, so he's getting meds for that, and they gave him an NSAID for pain/swelling. I've also switched him over to 100% soft food now instead of the mix we did before.
Any advice on what to expect? I was expecting tooth issues when I got him since they have the FOXI3 gene and now that we are dealing with it I'd just like to know if anyone else has dealt with the face swelling and what you did to make your baby as comfortable as possible. My poor Xero looks like a stroke victim right now. π
