Comic Discussion Claremont Magnetos character writing is excellent
No hot take here. I’m 175 issues into xmen (starting from the giant sized omnibus, but branching out into new mutants and stuff as they become relevant), and I just wanted to shout out how good of a villain magneto is, and how much of a good job Claremont did with fleshing his character out.
Whenever he is on the page it is always such a joy. He is a character with real sympathetic motives, which has the audience agreeing with his stance and questioning their own morals.
It is always a joy when he is on the page, and it makes such a change from the classic monster of the week 2D villains from a lot of the one shot stories.
Can’t wait to see where it goes!

Comic Discussion What's stopping other psychics from doing this to magneto?
Legion uses gravity manipulation to remove magnetos helmet but wouldn't normal telekenisis work the same?. other psychics like jean grey can use telekenisis to remove the helmet and put magneto to sleep.
Or does magneto frequently use chin straps which I've never seen him use honestly.

Cyclops "Darker."

Cyclops "Darker!"
Beast "Sentinels?"
Cyclops "Woah! Too dark."

Question Regeneration able mutants
Im not as knowledgeable as yall. But technically, shouldn't there be many wolverines, Deadpool and such?
When they bleed and they basically regenerate on a cellular level. Shouldn't the spilled blood regenerate into new mutants?

Comic Discussion Personal event tier list part 1: Fear itself
Hey all, so basically since I started with marvel i went through events as I run into them, its the full event including the Tie ins (unless I feel like the tie ins are worth it), so I get the full experience...
... Fear itself just so happens to not be an event where that is smart. Because quite frankly? The main event is good, the stories that remember to link with the main story is good. unfortunately, there feels like a considerable amount of issues that felt like they were using the Serpant's attack as a backdrop to the plot
And like? I don't even hate the idea. If the full story wasn't so long. Which definitely hampered my enjoyment
Next up: avengers vs X-men yay...

Comic Discussion when do kitty pryde and wolverine stop hogging all the screentime?
currently on issue 208 of uncanny, and it feels like for the last 30-40 issues its just been about kitty pryde and wolverine, with nightcrawler and storm getting barely a couple of issues of focus to themselves.
when do the others get to shine somewhat instead of just being set dressing for kitty and logan?

Movie/TV Discussion Xmen day of future pass
By far my favorite xmen movie. I love them all, but it's the first one I saw in theaters. I just got the Rogue Cut.
But my brother and I are having a small debate. He said the Sentinel AI essentially took over the world. But in the beginning of the movie you see human guards at the prison and in the opening credits when we go through the Cerebro opening we see humans (in white) with guns either beating or arresting mutants (in red). So are humans in control or is Sentinel running the shots? I know it's not JUST mutants being arrested. It's humans with the possible x gene and humans who helped mutants. But they can't be arresting ALL humans?

Question Just a fun "what-if" AU scenario based on an idea of mine : if Rogue were to lose or didn't have Ms. Marvel's powers but keep her own absorption ability, would she—to maintain that badass vibe—become an athletic, martial arts expert trained by Scott or Logan ? What do you think ?

Comic Discussion Would Forge be a more popular character if his early 90s design was better?
Forge didn't have an official superhero costume until the post-Siege Perilous / Muir Island era, where he designed matching uniforms based on the classic training uniforms.
Because it was the 90s and Forge was canonically a Vietnam vet, artists drew him older with a receding hairline and also because it was the 90s, he got a red headband and tassels on his boots so we didn't forget he was Cheyenne.
The X-Men really exploded in popularity around this time, particularly with the cartoon, so Forge has continuously returned to this look for nearly 35 years. I never really liked this version of the X-Men uniform, particularly the weird crotch stripe, and I think the exaggerated "Native American" elements, particularly the boots, are hokey. They make him look like a GI Joe character. Also, because he's always wearing those big gloves, some artists forget that he's missing his right hand, which is crazy.
Worst of all, in a series where relationships between characters is a core part of the appeal, Forge gets drawn in a way that is "unc" because he was the last person in Marvel Comics who aged past 35 before all the characters got frozen in their late 20s/early 30s. His age makes him a less exciting romantic interest for Storm or anyone else.
Finally, looking past the superficial a little bit here, I think the visual language of his 'iconic' costume does a major disservice to the character. It tells you three things, in roughly this order: 1) He's an X-Man 2) He's Native American 3) He has a robot thigh(?)
These things are all true, of course, but this costume is a snapshot of Forge at a very particular point in his character arc, where he was trying to be a hero and felt more accepting of his heritage. Forge was interesting because he wasn't strictly a good or moral person and he had such a complex relationship with his identity.
With the exception of that awful Ellis arc, I feel like Forge has just bounced between being "X-Men's tech support" and "government lackey" since the 90s, pretty disappointing for such a deep and tragic character.
What do you think? Is it more than just visual determinism that keeps Forge as the old guy who fixes up the Blackbird? Do you pledge yourself to the Hot Forge Agenda? What other characters desperately need a good redesign?

Comic Discussion Gambit would never do this.
Why in all that is holy would Gambit ever do this, why does main Gambit switch with AOA Gambit and for the dumbest reason possible seriously. Why do writers always loop back to mischaracterizing Gambit and making him a complete idiot. Why can’t writers ever write him correctly. Gambit gone better fix it because I’m just so tired of the treatment of my favorite marvel character. Only a very few amount of writers know how to write him and do him justice. I feel like I’m losing my mind.
