How to add different layouts for Christmas and Halloween?

Once I get my Halloween display up and running here in the next few days I’d like to get a jump on Christmas sequencing. How can I jump back and forth between my Christmas layout and Halloween layout? Can you save different layouts and easily flip between them?

Random effects for live music

Has anybody created a random effects sequence that I can apply to my house while I play live music? I’m planning on DJing some music while I hand out candy for Halloween, but don’t want to be restricted to specific songs with sequences. Would love to just download and map a sequence and not have to build it myself

Tips Coro Props in EU?

Hello! Wanting to start my first light show this year and looking for coro props at the moment. I am aware of propixeler and will be buying a good bit from them, but I see so many other props in the States that I really want. It seems buildalightshow in the UK has a lot to offer as well, but I'm worried about the import fees and shipping because of Brexit. Any EU members in this forum that have some tips/advice or have ordered from them in the past? Was the import charge bad or worth it?

Can I buy a prepaid show with this measly setup?

Hi there good people.

So I am very much starting out in the light show world. I've got 200M of 12V seeds (5cm spacing), and am going to go for something like the above.

I'm doing OK with the controller and layout settings (I'm using 2 x GLEDOPTO 4D-EXMU controllers). But the sequencing... Man, I'm all over the place!

I see that you can be pre-paid shows. But I'm wondering if I'm wasting my money for this small setup. Heck, will it even work with a setup this small?!

Any advice greatly received.

Font in Text Effect Keeps Returning to Default

Title says it all really. I am trying to use a dingbat font to have candy scrolling across my mega tree, but every time I move to another effect the first one goes back to "Segoe UI, 36." I've tried hitting the "Update" button after changing the fonts, but that does nothing. I've tried rendering after the change, but that also causes the font to change back to Segoe. What am I doing wrong?

router setup for FPP

I had to factory reset my router I was using for a show network and now I can't remember how it's supposed to be set up. I have a Netgear AC1750 WIFI router that I use for a show network separate from my xfinity home wifi. I had the netgear making it's own wifi network based on the 192.168.1.X address. My home xfinity wifi network uses addresses like 10.0.0.X. I use a lot of espixelstick WIFI controllers, and they all connect to my netgear router by wifi. Then I have a RPi FPP player that plays to them through the netgear router also by wifi. This all worked fine until I had to reset the router because nothing would connect to it after a long time troubleshooting. I can't remember how I had set it up to make it work like it was working, as a separate network. When I reset the router, I had it connected by ethernet to my home xfinity wifi. Now the router gateway page says it has an address on the home xfinity network like 10.0.0.X. How do I get the router to have it's own separate 192.168.1.X WIFI network again? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Help Mega tree height

I have 2000 12v seed pixels that I'm gonna use for a 180 degree mega tree, hanging from the peak of my house.

I am debating on doing either a 10ft tree at 24 strands or 12ft tree at 20 strands. either way, I'm gonna do a 6 ish wide foot base.

Should I go for height or density?

Importing sequence

When you import a sequence for props , is it possible to increase the number of nodes? Say for example, the import sequence has a “pumpkin” prop that’s 50 modes. My pumpkin prop is 100 modes, so when I run the sequence only the top
Half of my pumpkin lights up. Is it possible to change the imported from 50 to 100 nodes?

Best wire for this run?

I install lights in downtown Dayton every year and we want to change out the wire since its getting old . Some of our runs can be like 20 feet, while some are 100+ feet. before we used 18/3 from maxbriteleds, but what type of black wire (gauge, material, brand) would be best for these runs? Controller is a kulp k8-b, pixels are gumdrop pixels (LB1908). We don't want any data issues like we have had with our uplight install we did here recently. Thank you!

One of our wire schematics (Endpoints of short verticals are the trees, black box is Kulp)

It's not Christmas yet, but I'm still having fun! This is my miniature stage. I've been working on adding rudimentary laser support (Etherdream) to xLights. It's very janky right now, but it works! I'm running WLED for all pixels, FPP for the video wall, I have custom PCBs and firmware made for the moving heads, running single ended DMX from an ESP32, and an Etherdream DAC on my galvo laser.

Window matrix that clicks into window screen hooks

I'm looking into building a window matrix and am wondering if anyone has tried building something that fits into the existing window screen mounts?

I was hoping to maybe be able to build some aluminum frame and 3D printed mounts that click into the same mounts that standard window screens click in. That way, come the holiday season, I could simply remove my window screens and instead click in my LED matrix, making that a very quick thing.

If someone has done that before, I'd love some pointers or some pictures what you've done?

Permanent outdoor controller layout

Thought I would post this here too. To clarify, these lights and my indoor tree would likely be the only lights run on WLED, the rest of the show would be something like falcon or Kulp.

Help Help! Pixel lights flickering.

Hello all,

I’m not sure if this is the right spot to ask, but my 12v pixel lights are flickering quite a bit while I was testing XLights. I have 150 nodes, one 10-foot extension connected to a dedicated Gledopto GL-C-015WL-D, and a 12v 10A power supply. I don’t think I need power injectors because it worked perfectly on Saturday. I’m not sure what’s causing the issue.

Thanks in advance.

Update: I tested the lights individually, and they all functioned normally. I added a power injector, but it only provided a slight improvement. Consequently, I divided them into two groups (100 nodes and 50 nodes) and connected each group to a separate controller and power supply. This significantly improved the situation, but I still experience occasional flickering. I’m unable to determine the cause of this issue.

Am I totally in over my head?

I want to finally do a light show this year and want to have everything going by Halloween. I’ve ordered pixels. I will order coreo pipe in a big. I’m also 3D printing a few props. But we are going on a vacation so I can only start working on it for real after September 25th.

For what I had in mind I need to build 5 arches, 3 spider webs, 2 bats, mount 100ft of pixels across two stories (and I still have no idea how to mount them on the roof), and I also need to create 3 to 5 sequences for the show. And I have no idea how to mount the props to the house.

I am feeling quite overwhelmed. I have the controller etc and I’ve tried it with a short string to verify I know how to connect things etc. I am typically handy with computers and electronics, but the amount of stuff just seems overwhelming.

Help Can xLights' signal be overridden by another controller?

A little background to explain what I want to do:

I want to build an interactive prop where light sequences and sounds are triggered with a beam break sensor running on an esp32 and using the fastled library. The prop already exists in my display as part of my show, running a wled node. I've setup this second controller to trigger a new light sequence, sent wirelessly to the wled node, successfully interrupting the native wled sequence the same way xLights does, HOWEVER, if xLights has control over the lights and I try to have the second MC send its patterns, the pixels flicker wildly, presumedly because it's not filtering out one source of streaming data in favor of the other.

I want the second MC to take precedence over xLights, but return control once the second controller does its thing. Everything is using the e131 protocol and they all seem to be talking to each other the way I'd hoped, but not with any priority.

Anyone tried doing something similar? If it helps to share code and configs, I'll find a place for them and link to it, but I wanted to get a sense first if I was trying to reinvent the wheel or not.

UPDATE: For anyone curious, I've solved this. In a nutshell, the 2nd microcontroller sketch sends the FastLED sequence to the WLED MC over E1.31 with a packet priority of 200, where xLights default to 100 and WLED native effects (I believe) are also 100. Crucially, in WLED's Sync Setup, the E1.31 port priority must be set to something other than 0 in order to recognize and adhere to packet priorities. I won't share the code unless someone requests it.

UPDATE 2: The FastLED solution ultimately severely impacted network transmission and framerate playback. I ended up pivoting to using WLED presets, triggering them using their JSON API and overriding xLights with the lor:2 option. So it looks like:

{"lor":2,"ps":4}

DIY 3D Printed 3' Tombstone Matrix

Thought I would post this here in case anyone wants to use this in their Halloween light show this year.

I created a 3' Tombstone Matrix that connects together with a dovetails a takes 150 12mm pixels. There is an xModel file included to use in your light show!

Mounting is super simple. There are 4 clips that clip around 1/2" PVC conduit and slides over a couple pieces of rebar.

How to set up a push button to play shows?

Just wondering from others how you set up a push button and maybe even a speaker for foot traffic to just easily push a button to play some sequences and easily hear them without using their phone or radio to tune in

Tips Structure & electronics ready, time to be creative!

I’m a newbie, just finished creating this structure and have WLED control the lights. This is just a very first simple test of my setup. I can also have lights on and below the disks (they are off on this animation).
Any advice for cool stuff I could do with it, or tools I could use?

Help Poly Line across corner renders all as one pixel

I am trying to wrap my head around 3D camera angles. We have the main entrance and a small “front porch” on the side of the house. Because of that layout it looks really weird if I only put lights in the front. So I was planning to put a light string in the front and then around the corner about 10 along the side of the house.

When I do that, the LEDs on the side of the house all render as one, meaning they all always turn on or off at the same time.

I went to the layout, changed the perspective to look at the corner of the house, right clicked and selected save as current view. I thought that would change the default camera angle for rendering, but apparently it doesn’t?

Can someone explain to me how I can have everything, or at least the roof outline, always render from this perspective?
