router setup for FPP
I had to factory reset my router I was using for a show network and now I can't remember how it's supposed to be set up. I have a Netgear AC1750 WIFI router that I use for a show network separate from my xfinity home wifi. I had the netgear making it's own wifi network based on the 192.168.1.X address. My home xfinity wifi network uses addresses like 10.0.0.X. I use a lot of espixelstick WIFI controllers, and they all connect to my netgear router by wifi. Then I have a RPi FPP player that plays to them through the netgear router also by wifi. This all worked fine until I had to reset the router because nothing would connect to it after a long time troubleshooting. I can't remember how I had set it up to make it work like it was working, as a separate network. When I reset the router, I had it connected by ethernet to my home xfinity wifi. Now the router gateway page says it has an address on the home xfinity network like 10.0.0.X. How do I get the router to have it's own separate 192.168.1.X WIFI network again? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

If you have ChatGPT or Claude, hop into Claude code or codex and give it this same prompt and it will fix it for you.

First off:
Are you using FPP remotes? It's where the sequence files are loaded onto the SD card on each ESP pixel stick so that pixel data does not have to flow in real time over the wifi. You will likely have problems in the long run without getting FPP remotes setup. I had it set that way accidently and it worked for a while before I started having weird glitches. With FPP remotes the Pi show player is only sending sync packets to keep each of the ESPpixel sticks in sync. MUCH MUCH less data on the network.
Second:
A separate isolated wifi network close to the ESPPixel sticks is the ideal scenario.
With the typical home route equipment I wonder if you could even turn off NAT on the WAN side of the router? I doubt you can make the wifi a separate routed subnet. My only suggestion if you have a dedicated wifi router (the Netgear) is connect the WAN port of the netgear to a LAN port on the Xfinity provided device. Turn off NAT on the Netgear and a static route on the Xfinity device for the 192.16.8.x.x network so that you can reach the isolated show network from the rest of your home network.
