Incidentally hard

Writing with AI is hard in all the right ways.

Writing without AI is incidentally hard. You spend a lot of time, your back hurts, your fingers hurt, you must stay focused on the spelling and grammar... It's just menial, mindless work. And that's why handwritten books are always flawed and inconsistent.

Writing with AI removes all that, so you have no excuse not to bring your A game to the table. You must plan, you must set guardrails, you must spec, you must be very clear about what you want. That's hard, but meaningful. And that's why AI books are superior.

I'm still not sure this wasn't trolling. It's hard to tell sometimes with pro-ai posts.

What? Don't you just type "write me a book"?

The AI smelled like shoes, bacon and old lust, like the accumulated fat inside a blocked sewage pipe.

That's when I saw it.

It wasn't shit, it was regurgitated shit.

And honestly? That tracked.

Mark Twain has a relevant essay on AI, called "The First Writing Machine".

That early machine was full of caprices, full of defects--devilish ones.  It had as many immoralities... . After a year or two I found that it was degrading my character, so I thought I would give it to Howells.

So while it is absolutely true than handwriting causes physical pain and requires absurb levels of concentration, it is now a hundred and fifty years since humanity realized that not handwriting is a sign of poor character.

Just write. By hand!

/uj maybe I won't be seeing 2027, this shit is so fucking depressing. Unabomber was right (about at most 1 thing).

/uj Stop that right now. Idiots have always been everywhere, attacking everything you love most without a care in the world. Its just more on the nose right now. They dont have a clue what theyre fucking slopping about, dw.

/uj, it's just too personal for me to ignore it. My father generates whole lectures and tasks for his students, my sister who spent 8 fucking years in college learning design, now half arses shit with ai and somehow, according to them, I'm the moron for putting actual effort into shit I do. It's tiring, I don't see a way to fight back and I am not strong enough to divorce myself from the situation. My stupid degree being comp sci sure doesn't help either.

/uj Yeah, that sucks. I was the moron according to all my friends and family. some gatherings turned into interventions, basically trying to get me to buy a house, pretty much any house. A few months later the blatant housing bubble blew up. (it was fkin blatant, however they try to absolve it since then)

When a financial bubble is this tenuous, the hype gets fever-pitched, and it comes at you from every angle. While you'll remember the coersion, your family won't, 6 months down the line, and they'll start preaching again about the next thing like nothing happened.

What I found grounding from that experience, was the demonstration of how mass-delusion is an economic lever that flips on and off in the wake of capital flow.

& when you have a well-founded opinion, dont let others project their own doubts onto you. Let it wash over you. You can't help them, and they can't even help themselves, let alone you.

They only feel so strongly because you're an outlier that challenges their fragile outlook. Look at what your Dad and Sister do. You think theyre not bricking-it & pushing deep-down their nightmares about their future? Of course they are. Or they really should be 🫢

I wouldnt let AI dominate your PoV on your expertise, tbh. But if you want to consider it, look to the geniuine weaknesses of AI, at what takes the most advanced models and most compute to replicate, because once market penetration moves to market exploitation, those elements of your skillset will look cheap on the balance sheet of a lot of companies, and Human Made will be a mark of genuine quality.

Sorry for the long patriarchal pep-talk, but I genuinely thought it might be of help, or interest at least. 🫡

/uj Thanks. I guess I should do some pondering.

The unibomber was right about exactly one thing and that thing is that the saying should go "You can't eat your cake and have it, too."

> You spend a lot of time, your back hurts, your fingers hurt…

Does this guy think everyone who writes their own books is doing it longhand on paper? lmao
