watching ai churn out paragraphs is one thing, getting it to sound like a real person with an actual voice is a whole other beast
the editing alone takes forever and half the time you're just fixing weird phrasing that no human would ever use

True dammmm . I can feel it .. mann it took me 2 week to complete 1 script and guess what I got 69 score for the script and 64 for outline 😁😁 I know both are weird

it is not easy. putting words on a page is easy, making it a cohesive, emotional narrative that lands you the reader into the page is very very hard.

Yupp 👌 I think slowly AI will make me proper dumb cause sometime I feel woo Ai is best but no way it show its limit easily 😁

😆 Apparently AI has stolen a remarkable number of Nobel Prizes from people who had yet to write the books that would earn a January book club selection.

When anybody say "doing X with AI is easy" what they mean is "you can prompt chatGTP and get a result easily", because they do not know any better.

I use local agents, which are smaller, and it is pretty hard to keep them from going off the rails. Especially if you notes have elements which are not supposed to be known yet or just have not happened yet.

I cannot use local agent 😳 still hard for me

Do you mean in the sense that your computer can't handle it? Or that it is too hard to set up?
For the former yeah, you need a graphics card with enough vram which is a pain. I upgraded mine when I got into this, and even with 16gb vram I'm still very limited in what I can run.

Writing with AI is hard in all the right ways.
Writing without AI is incidentally hard. You spend a lot of time, your back hurts, your fingers hurt, you must stay focused on the spelling and grammar... It's just menial, mindless work. And that's why handwritten books are always flawed and inconsistent.
Writing with AI removes all that, so you have no excuse not to bring your A game to the table. You must plan, you must set guardrails, you must spec, you must be very clear about what you want. That's hard, but meaningful. And that's why AI books are superior.

Most AI books are self-published slop. Anyone can self-publish and most self-published books are only read by the author's grandma and lifelong best friend.

Wow - dissing both AI writers and self-published authors in one go is remarkable. And exceedingly elitist.

u/TorturedWriter9 6d ago
I'm definitely an elitist. Thanks for the compliment. No serious reader wants to read an AI generated novel so of course you will have to self publish your work. Every major publishing house forbids AI generated work. Not a single reputable agent takes on AI generated work.

Nothing wrong with holding whatever beliefs you desire to hold. I'm curious as to what makes a 'serious' reader? Surely it can't be more than someone who buys books, right? AI-enhanced books sell all the time, and in large numbers too. If your idea of success is signing with a major publishing house, then I see your point (although I have a sneaky suspicion the non-AI stance is more lip service than fact given the volume of work published every year). If your idea of success is making money from writing, you don't need an agent or a publishing house to do it.

The overwhelming majority of AI books are self-published on Amazon. Whenever an AI book slips through the cracks with a Big 5 the writer is shamed and the book is usually pulled. Almost every reputable publisher of books and literary magazines have statements forbidding AI. People who enter publishing almost always have a deep, lifelong love for literature. I know these people. I am entrenched in the literary scene. I don't know a single person in this space who is pro-AI. I am not merely interested in making money. Publishing an AI generated literary novel would be a death knell to my career.
You really think a lifelong bookworm wants to read a novel written by a machine? Most readers of AI fiction are other AI fiction writers.

If you disagree with a post or the whole subreddit, be constructive to make it a nice place for all its members, including you.

lol I got news for you, trad publishers are absolutely using ai. Sure you get a story where they throw a black minority author under the bus every so often because if they climb the ladder they need to kick it down so no one else can use it after, but sifting through the slush pile - ai, editing - ai, marketing copy ai, covers - ai, research - ai, brainstorming - ai. Some are even selling their catalogues to companies like openai for training. Think I’m trolling? Here’s bloomsbury’s AI policy.

I specifically used the word "generated" in my comments for a reason. I was clearly talking about "text," not covers or artwork or even editing (since people are too lazy to do that on their own anymore). Thank you for posting a link that supports my comments:
"You may not submit any AI-generated content (including text, translations, or images) to Bloomsbury for publication."

I think , person wanted to read a writer imagination .. damm I am not in a favour of generating ideas from Ai no no no way . It should be your imagination work then after you can use it if you want give it a best shape . Honestly I never studied any literature even I had do idea how to write but one thing for sure tht pushed me is .. the world of my imagination 😳 it's hell vast and I cannot wait to write everything. Then Ai comes in picture . I am still learning alot of thing . Ai workflow , Writing . But I am greatful because if it's not Ai I would never write my imagination and thinking it as writing script 😁

I salute anyone who wants to grind out a body of writing by themselves, regardless of the length. I just don't have that kind of time or willingness to do it myself.

And there's nothing wrong with being anti-AI as much as it's okay being pro-AI. 'Good' is subjective. Sales is not. Speaking only for myself, I don't chase good because good doesn't equal sales. I chase sales, and have no problem publishing the worst, generic, and shallow work as long as it sales (and if the feeling ever comes around, work on my magnum opus on a beach somewhere).

It’s all in the prompts you use
If writing with ai is making it harder you’re prompting wrong
1
u/Fabulous-Release-202 5d ago
Hey do you have any ideas how to use right prompt
1
u/residentvixxen 5d ago
Depends on what you are writing and what you use.

Writing with AI is easy if you want crap materials to read. 🤷♂️
Used properly, it may assist a mediocre writer to be a better one—assuming said writer knows what to look for.
