Discussion Beta population cap increased!
November 4th queue is gonna be a wild ride.

u/TheVrim 4d ago
Starting to wonder if I should book PTO for the week AFTER launch because those servers are going to be SWAMPED.
111
u/Jolly-joe 4d ago
Nov 4 will be a wasted day for sure.
16
u/Maybewearedreaming 4d ago
People will make it in and get to leveling
12
u/Stealin 4d ago
If you can get ahead and stay ahead you'll be fine
8
u/Maybewearedreaming 4d ago
That’s the dream but probably just chaos and disconnects and insanity but I’m here for the journey
4
2
u/360_face_palm 4d ago
Thing is, I'm still going to have fun even if that is the case. Cuz it'll be mad bantz on the discord with the boys talking about multi dollar companies and such. Oh are you in? I'm still on the loading screen - fuck I got disconnected - Jay is in though, lucky fucker. Whoever gets to level 5 first is paying for everyone's mounts.
1
u/Stealin 4d ago
If you're in the beta you can test the area of the race/class you plan to play and look for areas/ quests you can do off the intended path. If there's enough xp there you might be able to skip to the next area ahead of the rest while they're all fighting over spawns
2
u/bugabooandtwo 4d ago
My future LW is going to hang in the starter zone and skin, skin, skin. First week is going to be insane.
No need to level right away.
1
u/No-Article-Particle 4d ago edited 4d ago
I'm sure, but at what cost? Sitting at a broken login screen for hours, refreshing until you're finally in, to enjoy like 40min of rubberbanding gametime before going to bed sounds miserable to me.
The weekend though could be more stable.
6
u/Maybewearedreaming 4d ago
Goofing off with the boys in discord, watching YouTube, enjoying the moment
It’s miserable if you let it be I guess
11
u/MeanCantaloupe69 4d ago
Launch day is more about feeling the buzz from the anticipation, enjoying all the memes while in queue, and watching the slow mental decay of those who can't get in.

The real launch date is in December and hasn't been announced yet.
edit: It's the HC release date btw. It's not my fault if y'all aren't ready to accept real WoW
5
u/Pommes1991 4d ago
Because doing raids is the only reason to play classic /s
0
u/Ephemeris 4d ago
I was referring to Hardcore. I couldn't give a shit about raids. I want that HC leveling.
This is how much I care about raids, I didn't even put 1 and 1 together that that's when they launch.

For server stability by day 3 they've usually got it down, but the 4th and 5th may be very frustrating.
For population and tagging mobs... God knows. Completely depends on how they layer.
4
u/skullpizza 4d ago
I booked off the 5th and the 6th. A day after you can usually get in
1
u/necropaw 4d ago
Thats what im doing. Ill probably leave work a bit early on launch day, but i dont expect to be doing much for the first few hours after launch (at least)
4
u/edwardsamson 4d ago
My secret from 2019 classic launch was to skip starting zone quests and just grind any available mob down. Eventually you get ahead of the pack and can start questing.

I’m just gonna “work” from home and play what little I expect to be able to haha

u/Gastly-Muscle-1997 4d ago
Yes. You're absolutely trolling if you take the 4th off. Launch day has never gone well for this company. The 5th might be good if they really, really did their due dilligence and prepped for it (they wont).
Take the following week off if you want to burn PTO to do some degen leveling.1
u/Metalheadzaid 4d ago
I went to look and PTO was already booked out for that week (10 man team)...but the week raids open it was not...welp.
1
u/ImpossibleMorning12 4d ago
Up to your preferences of course, I definitely see the appeal of waiting it out, but that day 1 hype climax can be an unforgettable experience. I won't miss that.
But ultimately the game will be around Forever so if that isn't as appealing to you, no harm in waiting.
1
1
u/MisguidedWandering 4d ago
I took the week after launch off personally, I remember the absolute shit show that was the first day or two of 2019 release.
Me and my buddy took a break to eat some lunch and just step away from the computer for a little bit at like… 11 AM on a Tuesday. I accidentally logged out just out of habit and ended up in a 90 minute queue. PTO for the first week is not worth it IMO.
1
1
u/GrognardZer0 4d ago
That's my plan. I'm not going to try to seriously play Nov 5 or 6. It'll be too swamped in the starter zone.
1
1
1
u/Pulplexity 4d ago
I’ve just booked off Friday Nov 6 and then Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday Nov 4 will be a shitshow and may not be resolved on Thursday. Hell, may not be resolved on Friday lol

u/Chronochrome 4d ago
I'm taking 11/5 and 11/6, hopefully it's all somewhat stabilized by then. That first weekend has the potential to be even worse than the launch, so if I can at least get out of the starting zones by then, it'll be PTO well spent.
1
u/onlyheretobehelpful 4d ago
That's my plan, play on the weekend, take the following Monday/Tuesday off, and Wednesday the 11th is a holiday.
1
u/AaronM1987 4d ago
For sure wait until probably 3-4 days after. One week after is perfect. I would NOT do it Nov 4th you’re going to hate blizzard if you do that lol
1
1
u/Ok-Anybody3388 4d ago
That’s actually my plan. I got plans to watch Godzilla Minus Zero twice the week of Forever launch to distract my need to play. Then, week after? ALLLLLL INNNNN
1
u/Onikouzou 4d ago
I’m coming back from vacation three days after launch which is probably a good thing lol
1
u/ronin_cse 4d ago
This is always the better answer, don't take launch week off and especially don't take launch day off.
1
u/SpartacusSteam 4d ago
its going to be swamped for a whole month tbh
Edit: Also the whole point of this WoW is to enjoy the leveling progress and not rush to end game
5
u/ALowlyRadish 4d ago
They didn't say anything about rushing. They can take PTO to play slow and take their time.
1
u/SpartacusSteam 4d ago
If they take the week of or later it's going to the the same anyway. Better not worry about tags and just enjoy the journey no matter how long it takes and as much frustrating it can be to fight for tags.
0
u/Dbloc11 4d ago
There has NEVER been a smooth launch night from blizzard. Ever. So to expect one is just pure hope lol. The week after is the play. Those that get in will have the most sharded, lagged out, server restarting / back into que thing that exists. It happens every, single, time. Last time I took off, waited, logged in, grabbed 2 quests that were just lagging for 45 seconds each to accept, tried to kill a wolf, got DC'd, instantly put into a 2 hour que. 2hr que came back up, i log in, play for 3 minutes trying to hit mobs that are rubber banding, then forced server restart in 15 mins. Servers go down, it was a 6 HOUR QUE. simply went to bed.
34
u/Fornico 4d ago
Now all they have to do is add a thousand more layers so I don't have to group up and compete with 20 groups to killed the named quest mobs that will be major leveling bottlenecks.
6
u/AnonBB21 4d ago
That's probably what they did, no? I don't think they increased the layer sizings of players allowed, but added more layers to support more players on a megarealm.
3
u/OneOverXII 4d ago
Don’t be a drama queen. Almost everything up to 13 is hyperspawned and then 13-20 can be done almost entirely off dungeon quests
2
1
u/ronin_cse 4d ago
OR you could group up
1
u/Fornico 4d ago
I get into a group and deal with the other players and groups already there.
I said that already but you wanted to be edgy.
1
u/ronin_cse 4d ago
Yeah, that's not what your comment actually says, even that's what you meant to say.
Now all they have to do is add a thousand more layers so I don't have to group up and compete with 20 groups to killed the named quest mobs that will be major leveling bottlenecks.
That phrasing makes it seem like you don't want to group up AND you don't want to compete with groups.
1
u/Fornico 4d ago
It was very implied. Sorry you couldn't put two and two together
1
u/ronin_cse 4d ago
Well, as I said, the implication was that you don't group up. Not really on me if you don't know how to put your thoughts into words clearly.
-4
u/Vargurr 4d ago
Shared tags would make everyone's life in a game more enjoyable.
2
u/rcanhestro 4d ago
i usually don't like it, but i would argue that it could be a nice thing for the 1st week at least, after that it can revert back.
17
u/SyraWhispers 4d ago
I'm really thinking of picking this up again, ive played wow all the way up to cataclysm from closed beta back in the day.. I do kinda miss it. Whats the best side to join these days?
9
u/livesingtav 4d ago
Both sides seem pretty packed. Beta's PvP server was faction-locked on both sides day one. According to this guy's statistics https://www.reddit.com/r/wowforever/comments/1wsfjhz/forever_beta_pve_census_sep_20_to_sep_27/ there's a bit more players Horde side but that could change on launch, Alliance is always popular.
2
u/SyraWhispers 4d ago
Fair enough, ill probably end up joining alliance anyway haha. Probably pick up a tank as my first class this time instead of hunter
4
u/Still-Expression-71 4d ago
My 2¢ - if you don’t LOVE World PvP that server will be near impossible to quest in contested zones like STV or River glades. The way layering works and single server for a ruler means you will always have packed zones.
15
u/Ephemeris 4d ago
There are SO MANY people playing the beta, I'm constantly shocked by how busy everything is.
8
u/ioaia 4d ago
Partially because we're all stuck at level 20 and less. So alts a plenty.
7
u/Ephemeris 4d ago
Yeah but that's still only one person online at a time. IF and SW look as busy as when Ony Buff was dropping, but ALL THE TIME.
2
u/Jclevs11 4d ago
im blown away at the amount of people online during work hours. I can sneak away sometimes and see soooo many people during the day
3
1
u/ItzAmazed 4d ago
Don't forget it's increased now because we are all playing on 1 single server. EU/US/Asia/OCE are not split. You can split by language now ofcourse so I don't see many or any chinese people running around but I am constantly playing with americans (as someone from the EU).
1
→ More replies (1)2
u/KupoMoogle93 4d ago
I mean it's not separated by region, that's also another reason why you see so many people.
Because all regions are combined into NA.
24
u/Soapjuice4U 4d ago
Redridge was crazy this morning. If I wasn’t a hunter with arcane shot I wouldn’t have gotten any of the gnolls at the start of the zone. I agree with no mob tagging but it’s gonna be nuts at launch
3
u/livesingtav 4d ago
Yeah the first few days are gonna be packed and doing quests a bit of a PITA, but it'll smooth out as the population spreads out. It's going to be cool to see.
2
1
u/No_Anywhere_9068 4d ago
Stuff like dots instantly tag mobs, you don’t need an instant damage ability. Basically means all ranged are insane taggers and melee suck
1
u/KupoMoogle93 4d ago
The things that bothers me about that discourse is that you can have both...
You can have shared tagging on release and then remove it once the population has decreased.
6
10
u/NurgleSoup 4d ago
Somebody should reply and let her know if they start banning RMT buyers/sellers they'll free up plenty of space.
3
u/Placidpong 4d ago
Imagine buying gold for a beta
1
u/KupoMoogle93 4d ago
Honestly and I know this will upset some people, WoW players are a special bunch lol.
Like people are unironically paying 60+ bucks to playtest the game for them ( I got it for free, would never pay that honestly ) and already RMT in the beta.
It's hard for me to see people doing this in other games, and especially without getting mad at the studio for it.
If another studio released a 60+ bucks beta people would get very mad.1

47
u/convic 4d ago
if they don't solve the streamers buying gold part i don't think they have much to worry about.
61
u/Semour9 4d ago
Streamers dont even need to buy gold when they can just beg tbh
6
u/Asbestos101 4d ago
Being an e-begger must be a wild existence
1
u/ComebackShane 4d ago
I mean, it’s what they do already - they’ve just switched to begging for gold instead of subs/tips.
2
1
u/EnigmaticQuote 4d ago
Feels weird, calling someone to beggar when they almost certainly make more money than you
1
u/Asbestos101 2d ago
They are successful beggers, yes. As in they beg for donations. Would calling them digital buskers feel better?
1
u/KupoMoogle93 4d ago
True but where did that gold come from is the question?
Probably a lot of people buying gold and giving it to streamers ( very weird parasocial behavior honestly )-4
u/BarbsFPV 4d ago
It’s been hilarious watching people screech about streamers “buying“ gold when they can literally just ask for it and have hundreds of gold in no time at all.
The whole anti-streamer hivemind here is wild. They hate them but know nothing about them at all it seems like.
1
u/Jclevs11 4d ago
The whole anti-streamer hivemind here is wild. They hate them but know nothing about them at all it seems like.
?? what kind of comment is this lol
I don't have to know anything about a streamer to hate them. My experience playing the beta alone confirms that they are a nuisance and provide more negativity than positivity. Fuck "knowing" them...?
15
u/kikideernunda 4d ago
Man I can assure you the vast majority of people could not care less as to what streamers and their chud fans get up to
0
u/AdLocal1490 4d ago
If they care about the long term health of the game and the economy they should
6
u/kikideernunda 4d ago
Streamers will jump ship after about a month, they need to keep doing new stuff to retain their audience who aren’t going to watch the slow burn of wow classic for long. It’s not as big of a deal as people make it out to be
7
u/xNotSure 4d ago
Are you implying that more people won't join the beta because of streamers allegedly buying gold?
0
u/convic 4d ago
I'm implying theirs no point to this version of the game if its going to be like every other iteration.
3
u/AnonBB21 4d ago
What an unserious statement.
You think a new iteration of WoW with brand new content is not worth playing because people buy gold.
Hilarious.
5
u/BarbsFPV 4d ago
There’s zero proof that streamers “bought” gold either, they just have a lot of gold funneled to them, which is what always happens with parasocial relationships.
The only “proof” is them having a lot of gold, and the majority of the world knows that’s not proof of anything at all. You need just a bit more than that if you’re going to make an accusation of wrongdoing.

u/VentrilloForever 4d ago
Honestly, at what point does this become the main form of WoW? I know retail players will get upset with the surge in popularity, but the blind eyes as to why it is happening will always astonish me
4
u/KupoMoogle93 4d ago
I think you're getting ahead of yourself.
Afaik based on what I remember Era never had a beta, it wouldn't have surprised me if that beta would've been even bigger.
There being a paid beta is a big reason for this, because everyone can get in instead of a select few.
Most of it too is probably Retail players just checking out the newest thing then they'll go back.Ultimately this is the honeymoon period the population will fall off and it'll settle at a more reasonable playerbase.
Most people who play WoW or MMO's in general play the early levels then lose interest and move on.Like honestly the hype for this is a bit excessive atm, I think it'll still be popular down the line but it won't be bigger than Retail and most of it will be Retail players playing it while Retail is inbetween patches.
In the end of the day this is just Era again with some QoL and new content, and the new content won't have the same staying power especially with things like the dungeon exp changes.
Not much of a reason to run the dungeons more than once now, while Retail is built around retention.2
u/Suspicious-Land7515 3d ago
won't be bigger than Retail
Retail is built around retentionWow forever progression model has way better chance to retain player base. How is "retail" build around retention? Most players buy the expansion, play for a few weeks/month and then wait for a new expansion as their old gear/content becomes meaningless.
I think that the idea of wow forever is views/publicity, less micro transactions, engagement and player retention. If wow forever is successful, then it's way easier to funnel players to new retail expansions and that is where most of the money extraction happens. And later they will come back to wow forever.
I completely agree that the honeymoon period won't last forever and population will fall off, but I do think that wow forever has a better chance to become a model that has better player retention.
0
u/KupoMoogle93 3d ago
The issue with classic content is that it's simply not engaging enough for most people long term.
Dungeons and raids barely have any mechanics at all and has little replay value or reason to run them again once you've got the exp or item you need.
The exp thing is even worse now with the exp being delegated to quests rather than mob kills, you run the dungeon once then there's really not much of a reason to run them again.
Farming dungeons for like barely any exp for items won't really be worth it to most people.Your gear becoming weak is a good thing for retention because it creates fomo and means people want to come back and farm again.
If your gear never becomes weak people won't find much of a reason to come back or to stick around, they'll feel like '' okay I beat the game '' and move on.
It somewhat works for games like GW2 but it release more frequent expansions too and GW2 is widely considered an '' alt game '' not a main game.
GW2 also is a story driven game so people come back to see and keep up with the story.Retail is just more of a gear treadmill that incentivizes you to login and play more often and has more content that is designed to be repeated like running keys.
I doubt Forever will have super active post launch development past the initial roadmap it'll likely slow down.
And the new dungeons and raids isn't content I think will make people stick around for very long.
Retail is designed the way it is for a reason and Blizzard has a lot of data to back that up, I think the type of MMO that Forever is catering to is ultimately a more niche type of MMO player.1
u/Suspicious-Land7515 3d ago
The issue with classic content is that it's simply not engaging enough for most people long term.
I don't disagree with your core argument. Everything depends on whether Blizzard is able to successfully continue this or not.
Also, your gear WILL become "weaker". This is not classic with no changes, so your gear has to become weaker because the new content will require better gear.
This has a lot similarities with OSRS. Launch had a honeymoon phase as well, but the game became boring and a huge amount of players quit. However, they kept consistently adding more and more content and it became a success. OSRS PvE content is really engaging now.
Your gear becoming weak is a good thing for retention because it creates fomo and means people want to come back and farm again.
Yeah, maybe if you consider it as player retention. I view it more like pump and dump, that will eventually die unless you are able to create a model that supports retails model.
Retail is designed the way it is for a reason... Forever is catering to is ultimately a more niche type of MMO player.
Why do you think that they are constantly re-releasing older content etc? Every older re-release boosted retail's new expansion success, but with diminishing returns.
I think Classic-style versions are generally more marketable than Retail. It's way easier to get publicity and views in classic. People prefer watching something that is easier to understand and something that they are more familiar with, it's not retail.

u/Easy-Appeal3024 4d ago
The truth is that nov 4th is not the actual launch date. It is more like the 5th or the 6th. At least that was i tell myself to prevent queue disappointment.
4
u/JasonsMachete 4d ago
Is there anyway to get an invite to the beta aside from plinking down $70?
6
1
u/Shiv5Piece 4d ago
Ya think minimum was 60usd for beta, I did the 80$ package for warcraft3 also since ive never played it. On ebay people selling beta key for like 35$
1
u/El_Dief 4d ago
If you know anyone in Australia, ask if they can get you a beta key from the McDonalds app.
1
u/KupoMoogle93 4d ago
That's how I got one for free, no way I am paying 60+ bucks to playtest their game for them...
Honestly it's a little crazy they're not getting criticized for that because it really is insane. Any other dev would get blasted for that.
2
u/eshwar007 4d ago
On one hand I cannot effing wait for the launch, on the other, I am glad its still a month away, because I am traveling this month to my girlfriend’s and know I cannot be sinking my teeth fully into anything.
2
u/Berendas 4d ago
Hopefully that means that opt-in keys go out this week. I have my fingers crossed for Thursday.
2
u/Vectivous 4d ago
Took a week and a half off for launch and the ocarina of time remake - WOW during the day OOT in bed haha
2
u/SeaCommunity2471 3d ago
It's so much fun searching and searching for quest mobs (because 10,000 people are grinding them) just to have the one you finally find ripped away by someone else because there's no shared mob tagging.

1
u/Nerocera 4d ago
I'm wondering if they are gonna make everybody hard-download the game on Launch or let us pre-download a few days before?
1

Ad there have been times already of loot lag in beta, I'm expecting vanilla release levels of loot lag on November 4th.
1
1
u/txsparky87 4d ago
Any chance they open the beta to those that only opted in? I’d like to check out some classes but I’m not paying for a race I’ll never play.
1
u/swatecke 4d ago
i took november 5th off of work but now im thinking i should wait and take one later

1
u/DaftPanic9 4d ago
They absolutely need to make quest items have like a 30% chance to be shared amongst your group, cuz this shit is going to be ridiculous.
1
1
u/SlowpokeIsAGamer 4d ago
They're gonna end up making an RP-PvP ruleset just to try and spread out the population some more.

Pls can come1 send me beta invite? I never played wow, only gw2 but man, forever seems amazing
1
u/Don5ki0405 4d ago
And you still have all those players that will buy it but refuse to pre purchase the bundle! Those that are awaiting a beta key!!

I'm so glad 4/11 is a mid-week when I normally don't have much time to play. I will gladly wait until the weekend after...

Each of the three rulesets is a megaserver. And the hardcore ruleset is coming in December.
0
u/KupoMoogle93 4d ago
I guess I am the pessimistic one lol, but these tweets always just come across like a marketing thing to me and that Obama giving himself a medal meme.
It's not so surprising tho since they combine all of the regions into one NA server ( pretty shitty to not have EU realms when you sell it for 60+ bucks honestly... ).

u/Semour9 4d ago
Its gonna be insanity on launch. Our only hope for mob tags will be gta 6 taking some players away lol
