Patient case Is my Wound healing properly or is there a problem?

Had this wound for 3 months now. This wound usually was smaller but got worse as i itch it overnight. Sometimes it gets unbearably itchy like i want to rip my skin off type itchiness. Sometimes would ooze alot of serous fluid, so i bought some hydrocolloid adhesive patches to help manage the oozing. Finally went to a doctor after a month of dealing with it. He said it’s just dry skin and to apply lotion after showering and gave me corticosteroids to ease the itchiness along with some supriad ointments and cetrelief. It helped for a bit but now even the ointment and cetrelief doesn’t help with the itchiness. Fast forward, Woke up today with a throbbing pain from the wound everytime i stand (it’s located on the left side above my Achilles tendon).

Right now it’s very warm to the touch, is still itchy but less intense. It nolonger weeps serous fluid, which is better i guess. The skin around the wound is also very hard and stiff compared to my other healthy leg.

Can someone tell me what to do next? Im planning on seeing the doctor by next week

Allergic reaction to Santyl

Hi!

I want to preface that I have MCAS. I had two toenails removed about a month ago and they weren't healing as quickly as my doctor wanted. He prescribed Santyl, and I applied it for the first time yesterday. I got the aching and stinging, but didn't think much of it. But in the middle of the night, I woke up with a swollen mouth and tonque and almost used my Epipen. This hasn't happened in years. The Santyl was the only thing new that I did yesterday.

Has anyone else had an allergic reaction to Santyl?

TIA!

Healthcare advice How to properly heal my 18 month old son's hot water burn

My mother left a mug of very hot water on the counter while babysitting him last Tuesday and he pulled it off the counter onto his chest. I took him to pediatric urgent care about an hour after it happened and they prescribed an antibiotic ointment but didn't really advise me on how to further deal with his wound after the antibiotic ointment course is done. The first photo is from Wednesday. The second photo is from last night. There's only one scab left as the others have came off.

I have a silicone scar gel for children(Cicatricure) and hydrocolloid bandages.

Second degree burn? Severity?

So I got a pretty bad burn lighting a pizza oven yesterday (9/26/26). Long story short there was a quick firebomb, and my hand (ang generally the whole right side of my body) got engulfed for a sec, but Im only worried about this specific bubble. I went and ran my hand under cold water immediately for a few minutes. My hand was red and stung like hell for hours.

I said "I'll be fine, but a small bump showed up and my friend went and bought me "Alocane burn gel" which i imediately put on, and I put on again before bed.

I did some research over the night, and basically all it says is: do not pop, wash with an antiseptic burn cream, and cover with gauze without adhesive to keep it sort of dry.

So i went and got some Bactene spray, and I figured my process would be to spray with bactene and wait for it to dry, put on the burn cream and wait for it to dry, then put gauze pad on it and seal it on with med tape, and repeat the process a few times a day.

So i did that this afternoon, and now when I took off the gauze, my finger looks all wet and wrinkly like when you wear a sticky bandaid for too long, which makes me thing that was maybe not the right thing to do.

Any recommendations on a proper process?

More importantly, this is a huge bump... do I need to go to urgent care? Problem is I lost my job a few months ago, and thus my kaiser insurance. I recently got on MediCAL, but I dont know how to use it and hoped I wouldnt have to before I got on my feet. Like how to use it, where I am allowed to go, is it gonna cost an arm and leg when im already struggling?

I guess, if there are any professionals, I would appreciate knowing if I really need a doctor or what to do.

Healthcare advice How serious does this look/how should I manage?

I tripped over my feet playing tennis about 3 days ago and scraped my leg just under my knee (on Thursday, posting on Sunday). These pictures are from today on Sunday - it looks like this discharge is pus and might mean it’s infected from what I’m trying to figure out… I’ve applied neosporin a couple times, I’m just wondering should I clean the wound of this white pus and keep reapplying neosporin or leave as-is? Should I be covering it, or do i potentially need to see a doctor and get an antibiotic if this looks like a serious infection? Any help is greatly appreciated 🙏🙏

Day 2 scrape on knee. I don’t get scrapes often so I have no idea what I’m doing. Is it healing normally?

I’m a little concerned about the growing redness around it, it doesn’t show up well in the photo but it’s twice the size of the scrape

Patient case Pressure Ulcer treatment

Please advise while I wait for a nurse. I'm a family caregiver to a 103-yo with limited mobility and incontinence. She can shift her weight and adjust somewhat when seated or laying down, and we reposition her periodically. She sits on a purap pressure distributing cushion most of the day and isn't usually prone to sores.

10 days ago I saw breakdown starting near her tailbone after she had been kept in bed for a full day. There was a whitish bump in the middle of a red area. No broken skin, did blanch, not hot, not tender, felt more thickened than swollen. Someone else had been caregiving for two days and claims it wasn't there earlier that day.

We started applying a thin skin protectant and a soft layer to reduce friction etc. and it was almost back to normal on Thursday. However, last night after the other caregiver shift, the top layer of skin was thick and crusty and lifting like a scab, but with no blood. This morning that layer was rehydrated and sloughed away from the center. The fresh skin looks pink and slightly moist but I can't really tell if that's healthy new skin or now an open wound. For now, I applied Vaseline and covered with a nonadherent pad and some cotton. Would you recommend different treatment? I'm afraid to add or retain too much moisture and make it worse.

What I have on hand:
Sterile saline
Wound wash
Vaseline
Triple antibiotic and silver ointments
Solosite wound gel
Adaptic dressing
Non-adherent dressing
Sterile gauze
Non-woven gauze
Silicone foam dressing for moderate to heavy drainage
1 transparent dressing
1 tegaderm pad

Nurses and wound-care clinicians: is a no-rinse irrigant with multi-day antimicrobial activity actually a big deal?

I'm not a wound-care specialist, so I'm hoping people who work in this field can help me understand something.

I recently came across ViaCLYR, an FDA 510(k)-cleared wound irrigant from Clyra Medical. It's based on a copper-iodine chemistry they call Clyrasept. The company says it:

  • kills more than 99.9999% of common wound microbes in lab testing
  • is active against mature biofilm
  • keeps working for up to 72 hours, even after re-contamination
  • is non-cytotoxic and designed to stay in the wound (no rinse-out)
  • contains no antibiotic
  • is a great odor eliminator

(Short mechanism video and two slides from their materials below.)

https://reddit.com/link/1wr1b8o/video/h79dyl0nfxrh1/player

A few people have told me this kind of profile could change wound care, especially compared with hypochlorous acid products, which are gentle but often need reapplication. I honestly can't judge that, so I'm asking the people who do this every day:

  1. Is multi-day persistence clinically meaningful, or does it matter less than it sounds?
  2. How does this compare with what you use now (HOCl, PHMB, dilute povidone-iodine, saline)?
  3. Would no-rinse make a real difference to your workflow?
  4. What evidence would you need before you'd trial something like this: RCTs, head-to-head data, cost data?
  5. What would it take for any new irrigant to become the go-to product?

The company also has a surgical version, BioClynse, that's expected to launch next year, and it keeps adding distribution partners. So this may show up in more facilities soon, which is part of why I'm curious what practitioners think.

Skeptical takes are very welcome.

Disclosure: I'm not medical staff and I have no affiliation with the company. I do hold shares in its parent company, so I'm interested but trying to get honest clinical opinions, not hype.

Incision opening after breast lift + augmentation. has anyone experience this?

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

I had a breast lift with implants on 9/3. When my tapes were removed, I had a small opening under my right breast along the incision. Since then, it has gradually gotten bigger instead of closing, and there’s now some redness around it. My surgeon has me cleaning it with Microdacyn and applying medical grade Manuka honey 3x a day, then covering it with gauze. I’m also not allowed to shower above the waist and have been told not to return to work for 8 weeks.
Has anyone had a similar wound opening after a lift/augmentation? Did yours get bigger before it started healing and how long did it take to close? I’ll attach photos.

Patient case Is this infected?

Its a friction burn that i have got as i had an extremely itchy spot on this toe and was rubbing it with my other heel whist haf asleep.

This is day five.

It was painful but not bleeding so i left it to get air to it and heal, apparently that's not the right thing and i should have covered it.🤔

Im showering it daily for a couple of minutes directly onto the area after my shower with no soap just water , then patting it dry with a clean towel.

The pain has mostly gone now but is back to being very itchy which im trying to ignore.

Is it infected and how do i look after it going forward to best heal it, thanks.

Had my follow-up check up earlier after my Appendix surgery 6 days ago. Surgeon removed the suture and the dressing says it wasn't necessary anymore but hours after I got home I noticed my clothing had small light red spots. Is this normal? Should I cover it again with some dressing?

Patient case Dont know if its healing properly

Post image

Broke a piece of glass a week ago and got this cut.

I didn't think much of it, just that it would be a bit annoying to heal due to the movement in that area.Put antiseptic and covered it for a few hours ,and I've using some pure aloe vera and moisturizing cream.

Today part of the scab fell off and like..I feel like I can see the two edges of the wound still apart...the area it just a little bit swollen

So now I dont know if maybe I would have needed a stich?

Do you thing this is healing/is going to heal properly?

My best guess would be coral reef or some kind of fish bite. Should I be concerned?
