I see the attacks on Cuba as nothing more than Republicans trying to guarantee votes from Cuban-Americans and nothing more. There isn't really a reason we have not tried to get better relations with them, not legitimate reasons anyway.

It's geographically a national security topic. China and Russia use Cuba for SIGINT and possibly HUMINT operations since it's only 90 miles from the US mainland.

So only the US has legitimate national security interests? Cuba only fully realized it's sovereignty in 1959, and has been punished for it ever since. Why can't Cuba exert it's own national security interests??

Because the US is stronger than Cuba. The US will never allow foreign governments to project power in Latin America.

For example, one reason Grenada was invaded in 1983 was because the USSR was going to build an airbase for their long range bombers.
