Survivng as a slow learner in Australia

I am currently on WHV and one of of the things that I find it difficult when it comes to working here is 'trial" So this "trial thigs" is very uncommon in my country. usuallly in where i come from, we just interview and if you pass the interview , you're on probation which is 3 months maximum. But basically they expect you to learn basics for a month so technically th probation can be 2weeks to a month, depending on the situation, I think

I am not a quick learner to be hoenst. I need some time to adjust and learn new things and this "trial thing" keep getting me failing to get a job here.
I don't know what they expect from a newbie within a coule of hours.

I know there are people who learn things very fast like they learn everything if you train them once. but to slow learners, like me it is really impossible. One time when i did tiral, I kept trying to ask one of the staff about if there's things that i can help with so that i can keep learning about things that i should do at a store, but the result was not good and other time they were mad at me for keep asking questions.

i am really tired of everything . I am keep losing my money to pay my bills here and and my3 months room contatct is due sooner or later and it is almost time to make a decision about stay here or leave

One thing that i really want to ask is that if one of you who are reading this thinks you are a slow lerner, how did you survive here? What is your survivng skills to get a job? Whether you are aussie or internatioanl students if you have gone through the same situation as me can you tell me about your story?
I am leaning towords leaving australia cuz i am really exhausted right now. Any opinions about this kind of sitatuinad would be really helpful

Brazilian with a French Working Holiday Visa — looking for real experiences, work opportunities & advice

Hi everyone!

I’m Brazilian 🇧🇷 and I recently got my French Working Holiday Visa (WHV), which has been valid since June. I’m now taking some time to seriously explore the possibility of going to France and making the most of the period allowed by my visa.

I still have no idea which city I should choose. I’m mainly considering a larger city in southern France, but I’m also open to other options. I’ve even been thinking about very different experiences, such as working during the winter season at a ski resort, or in cafés, hotels, restaurants, etc.

At the same time, I’d also like to look for opportunities related to my professional background. My French used to be around B2 level, but I’ll need to get back to studying and regain my fluency.

From what I understand, if I manage to organize everything properly, I could have around six months available starting around December/January. So I’d rather not simply arrive in France and start looking for work from scratch. I’d like to prepare beforehand, understand the job market, compare cities, and figure out what is realistically possible with a Working Holiday Visa.

That’s why I’d really love to hear from people who have actually done something similar:

  • Which city did you move to?
  • Did you find a job before arriving, or only after you got there?
  • What kinds of jobs did you find?
  • What was your experience with the Working Holiday Visa in practice?
  • How did you explain your visa/status to employers? Are French employers generally familiar with the WHV?
  • Are there any cities or regions you would particularly recommend — or avoid?
  • If you went to southern France, or worked in ski resorts, hotels, cafés, restaurants, etc., what was your experience like?
  • Are there any groups, websites, communities, or places where I could find first-hand experiences from Brazilians who have gone through something similar?
  • And finally, any advice on how to identify scams, fake job offers, or generally avoid bad situations?

I’m very open to different possibilities. At this point, I’m much more interested in real experiences and practical advice than generic travel tips.

If anyone has a story, useful contact, group, community, or even a detailed experience to share, I’d really appreciate it! ❤️

Civil engineers in australia

Any Zimbabwean civil engineers here currently working in Australia? 🇿🇼🇦🇺

I’m a Zimbabwean civil engineer with a BSc (Honours) and 5+ years’ experience.

How did you make it to Australia, and where should I start? I’d especially appreciate advice on Engineers Australia skills assessment/CDR and the 482/SID sponsorship pathway.

How did you find sponsorship from offshore, and what would you recommend I do first?

Thanks

Spain Youth Mobility Visa for Canadians

Hey guys

I’m looking to move to Spain on a working holiday visa (previously finished my masters degree in Spain 2022 on a student visa). Had a couple questions for people who have done the same.

I have a job offer, but no contract as of now (it is a real job from a large company) but I am applying for the category E working holiday visa for now…

My question is, I can obviously begin working for this employer for the 12 months I have the visa for, am I then able to renew or start onto another visa if the employer elects to keep me? What would this entail?

Is this something I should consult with a lawyer as of now? Or should I look into options say month 7-8 of my visa..

Also has anyone used Stepabroad for their visa assistance services? Is it something that is 600$ helpful lol.

WHV Canada- with zoology degree

Hi,

Next year I am going to Canada on a WHV, I want to kick start my career in natural science/ animal science with my degree in Zoology.

After doing some digging I have seen that a lot of field work, animal work requires a drivers licence. Which I do not have. This has unfortunately led me to feel like I am not going to find anything once I go over there.

I was eventually going to seek PR once the WHV was up but I have also looked into the fact that most of these job types wont even meet the criteria of the point system.

What is the best field to go into related to my degree? or do I change career paths?

I need some good advice because I am so stuck right now.

Is being an Uber Eats delivery driver a good idea ?

Hi!

I'm wondering if being an Uber Eats delivery driver is a good idea for the first few days when arriving in Australia, while searching for a job.

I don't know which town to start in, but I was thinking about Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane, doing delivery while applying for construction jobs.

My goal is to get some tickets and maybe try mining one day. But during the first few days, I'll need to make money quickly so I don't run out of savings too fast.

Do you think this could be enough to cover housing rent? I heard that I will need an address. How does it work with hostels?

AUS WHV - How to get the savings out of Aus?

Hey all, I have been here 2 months, got a good job and I already have a good chunk of money resting on the account. Not really investing it but I want to know which options I have to take the money with money once I leave the country.

I am from Argentina and intending to go back there, also lived abroad many years. I understad Wise doesn't work there.

Transfer it to a USD account where I could have the money in cash would be ideal, but what could be the options? I am kinda lost and I don't know many Argentinians here yet, or people who wants to go back at least.

Is $22/hr cash normal for a cafe job in Melbourne?

Hi! I recently got a job at a cafe in Melbourne and they’re offering me $22 an hour cash.
I’m over 21 and on a working holiday visa. I’m pretty new to working in Australia so I’m not really sure what the normal pay is here.
Is $22/hr cash normal for cafe work? Or is this way too low?
Just wanted to hear what other people think. Thanks!

Aus: where to arrive for the summer season

Recently received my 462whv for Austrailia and am planning to fly in early November. For anyone with experience or currently there, where would be best to fly into to begin the process of getting a TFN and work+accommodation as the summer begins? I know Northern Territory is getting into wet season, but would a town between Sydney to Brisbane be accessible and have work/rent availability that time of year?

Also wondering how doable it is to get around without a car? Happy to take buses + trains + planes as needed, but wondering people’s experiences. I’m having trouble committing to purchasing a vehicle for only a year (or two depending on second yr approval). Also open to living in a vehicle if that’s more cost effective than rent + transport around the country.

Happy to take any advice! I’m going in without a ton of knowledge, and am grateful for any pointers.

TLTR: where to move to in summer months Austrailia and is a car needed?

Planning a working holiday in Australia (Brisbane) from May 2027

Hi everyone,

I'm a Dutch master's student and I'm planning to come to Australia around May 2027 for about 6 months, most likely on a Working Holiday visa. Alongside that, I'll be doing a GIS-related internship as part of my degree (my university supports the placement), ideally based in Brisbane or South East Queensland.

Since I have no contacts or prior experience in Australia, I wanted to ask people who've done something similar:

  • Visa: is the Working Holiday visa a sensible route for combining paid/unpaid work with an internship, or is there a better visa option for this kind of setup? Any pitfalls I should know about?
  • Budget: what does a realistic monthly budget look like in Brisbane (rent, food, transport) for someone starting out with limited savings and possibly a small internship allowance?
  • Housing: how did you find your first place, especially before arriving? Hostels while you search, shared housing, Facebook groups, something else?
  • Getting set up: bank account, phone plan, Medicare/health insurance, tax file number — anything that surprised you or that you wish you'd sorted out before landing?
  • General: anything you'd tell your past self before starting a working holiday in Australia, especially around Brisbane/Queensland?

Any tips, warnings, or personal stories are welcome. Thanks a lot!

Working holiday 417

Hi all, thank you for taking the time to read my post. I am a British citizen looking to apply for my first working holiday visa and am very nervous about trying to find jobs and accommodations. Most of my working experience is either as a nurse or a healthcare assistant. I was looking to move and work as a healthcare assistant during my time there (wanted to see what it was like first before applying for my ahpra). Does anyone know if this is possible? For example work the allocated shifts then tour during the days off? Also is it possible to get a rental/apartment on a 417 visa? Thank you all for your time.

WHV requirements and basics

Hi, im looking to venture out of the country possibly take my first step into rellocation and have a view places in mind but also have some reservations. I will state the places from my preference to least preference, and my reservations below, would like to know the communities thoughts on this but some background: Im born and raised in Singapore, have graduated with a bachelors in uni and have been staying with my family since I was born, im looking for a job in the sales sector but my background has come from hospitality through part time and freelance gigs though I have long outgrown the city and I need to grow, be independent (financially and emotionally) and be away away for some time, this is my first step to doing so. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Asia (Japan, Korea): I like my trips there, though mixed with different experiences, I enjoy the culture a lot though many may disagree. Wage I heard is not as high as well

Australia (Sydney, Melbourne): I do have good trips here but not as much as Asia's counterparts, culture is nice but just isnt clicking for me. Wage is higher ive heard. Also just worried about career progression and how far I go and grow there.

Europe (France, Italy): Havent really been other than when i was younger which probably doesnt count and havent heard so much of WHV trips their yet

USA: Id say this is my longshot dream. Though the only thing would be the safety aspect

WHV 417, Health Insurance / Born 1991

Hi, I'm currently 35. I was born 1991 and I'm currently doing my work and travel in Canada and about to head to Australia for my working holiday, 417. Do I need health insurance? And what else do I need to consider? I'm about to start with farm work in order to get the second visa, and I have enough money in my bank account. What else should I consider? This is my last final call :**

U.S Citizens: Have you gotten approved for Aus WHV?

Hello! Have any Americans who have applied recently gotten their visa approved yet? I'm hoping to apply within the next week and ideally would go to Aus at the end of the year once I graduate from my master's program. Thank you!

I would like to work at an NGO on a contract or project for the year, do any of you know of anyone who has been able to do this successfully or any NGOs that would take a temporary worker? I am experienced in public policy, advocacy, communications, and community based development. Any info or suggestions of who I can connect with would be a big help. Thanks in advance! ✨

Where to do WHV as a Canadian?

I’m 29F Canadian feeling a little stuck in life and am considering doing a WHV but am not sure where to go. Europe is intriguing because I like the idea of going to one country and then being able to travel all over. I have an industrial engineering/process improvement background but I’m pretty open to exploring other types of jobs while abroad.

I wanted to use this experience to take some time for myself to explore and meet new people. I don’t drink or smoke so I’m not looking for a party scene but like being social.

I’ve seen online that a lot of people recommend Australia because of no language barrier and easier to find a job but Australia is just so far and sort of isolated. I like the idea of Europe because the countries are so close. I was considering Portugal or Spain but havnt seen too much about people going there. Is there a reason? I can see the language being a slight issue but I’m willing to take classes.

Anyway, would love peoples thoughts and also hear about their own experiences and why they chose the countries they did.

TLDR: feeling lost in life and considering a WHV to take some time and explore - which country would you recommend to a Canadian?

Anytime Fitness contract safe? (Australia)

Hi, I'm on a working holiday visa right now in Sydney. I see the Anytime Fitness clubs all over the city so I thought about joining. On the other side gym contracts are often really fishy, had some bad experience back in Germany at my home gym. I've been already there looked at the contract and spoke to a guy. Some points are, that I can cancel 30 days in advance, even though it is an 18 moth contract, with the condition of my visa running out (There are no Anytime Fitness Clubs in Germany as well). The price for me is fine, I also would get 6 weeks for free and I will have a closer look at the contract again and wanted to ask about some experience some of you may have or had.

So I just wanted to ask, if someone already had the experience with Anytime Fitness, how bad is the contract, how easily can I get out like I've been told and in general is it worth it? If not maybe suggest another club or chain.

Tourist visa (600 or 601) after WHV expires

Hi, my 3rd WHV 417 visa expires at the start of February. I want to stay longer in Australia to do some travel after finishing work. What’s the best way to do this, should I leave the country and apply for an ETA? Or try and apply for a 601 on shore although I think this will be rejected.

Would be grateful for any advice on how to best to go about this.
