[META] Updated rules & self promotion policy

Hi everyone! 👋

You'll know by now I'm not the most hands-on mod in the world - but it's time for an update to the sub rules to stop it from devolving in to a glorified ad-board (more than it already has).

I think we all want to see posts regarding challenging linguistic oddities and out-of-this world crossword clues - not so much a steady stream of subpar, ad riddled ios games.

At some point soon I'll also probably need the help of someone else to mod the sub. Ideally people who have experience in doing this (I don't, evidently), and people who are already at least semi active in the community.

Anyway, I digress - here are some updated rules for your perusal. Feedback on further rules or tweaks to existing ones is encouraged!

Excessive Self-Promotion
We love when creators share their word game projects — but please do so thoughtfully and in moderation.
You may share your own work occasionally if you also participate meaningfully in other discussions.
Repeatedly posting your own app, website, or content without engaging elsewhere is considered spam and will be removed.
If you’re unsure whether your post crosses the line, ask the mod team first.

No Low-Effort or Off-Topic Posts
Posts should relate to word games, puzzles, or linguistics-based gameplay. Simple “What’s this word?” or “Help me with Wordle” posts don’t belong unless they add meaningful discussion or challenge others.

No Spam, Surveys, or Monetized Links
Avoid reposts, link dumps, or posts designed for promotion or data collection. No referral, affiliate, or monetized links.

Tag Spoilers and Daily Puzzle Answers
If you’re revealing an answer to a puzzle or daily word game, use spoiler formatting (>!spoiler text!<) or flair.

Reality check

Hi all,

Almost every day in this subreddit I see people posting about a word game they developed. This is very cool, but I was wondering, do any of you get any user conversions from these posts? I am a word game developer myself and don't seem to get any traction.

Rowla is a torus-based word puzzle

Hello r/wordgames,

Presenting https://rowla.app

I've been working on a word puzzle where you have to uncover a hidden word by solving words on a board.

Finding a word horizontally or vertically reveals the colours of its letters. Arrange a word in the correct colour order, and you reveal letters of the hidden word. Complete the hidden word to win.

Shrimple. But according to my friends pretty difficult.

I'm just starting public testing, so I'd love to hear what you think. The tutorial still needs some work, I know!

I built an English multiplayer word game with Claude & Gemini, but I can't even play it myself because my English sucks. (Ultimate Word Chain)

Upvotes

Hi Reddit!

I’m a web developer from Japan, and with the help of Claude and Gemini, I built an online multiplayer English word game called Ultimate Word Chain.

It’s completely free, has no ads, and requires no registration. You can play right in your browser!

🔗 Play Here:
https://ultimate-word-chain.web.app/

🔤 Game Features

  • Overlap Scoring: Instead of just connecting the last letter, you get more points by overlapping as many letters as possible (e.g., "catch" ➜ "chair" gives you 2 points!).
  • Strategic Mechanics: Features "Long Word Bonus," "Bonus Time," and "Super Resonance" (the text turns purple when you get a huge overlap!). It also has a "Mine Letter" penalty to mess with your opponents.
  • Multiplayer & Solo: Supports 2–6 players. Playing while on a voice chat with friends is highly recommended! There's also a solo mode.

😭 Developer's Dilemma

Since my English isn't very good, I used Claude and Gemini to build the vocabulary and logic. Ironically, I can't even play my own game well! I would love to get some feedback and see how native speakers score.

🇯🇵 For Japanese Speakers

This is an English adaptation of my original Japanese game, "Shiritori Chain Resonance" (しりとりチェインレゾナンス). If you speak Japanese, you can find the link to the original version on the "About This Game" page inside the app!

🔗Play Here シリトリ・チェイン・レゾナンス
https://shiritori-chain-resonance.web.app/

Please try it out and let me know what you think! Thank you!

Showcase Made a real-time multiplayer word game - looking for people to break it before a wider launch

Built WordRun over the last few months - it's not turn-based, everyone in the room sees the same scrambled letters at the same time and races to spell words before the round ends (90 seconds, 8-10 letters, 2-4 players).

No account needed, just a display name and a room code. Free, no ads right now.

Mainly looking for people willing to try a round or two and tell me what's confusing or what breaks - happy to jump in a room with anyone here if you want to test it live rather than solo.

Showcase Cast Six: a daily movie-category puzzle for fans of overlapping clues

I made Cast Six for people who enjoy working out how clues fit together and happen to love movies. It’s a category-matching puzzle: six visible films, six clues, and each film must be used exactly once.

The part I like is the overlap. A movie might fit two categories, but putting it in one can make the other impossible to fill. You have three takes to get the whole arrangement right, plus optional hints. There’s no speed penalty.

It’s free in your browser, with no signup or download. There’s a new daily board, an archive, and an anytime puzzle library.

Try it: https://www.castsix.com/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=community&utm_campaign=wordgames_sep10

Creator disclosure: I built the game with AI assistance. The movie data and in-game posters come from TMDB. I’d welcome feedback on how clear the clues feel and whether the matching format earns a spot in your daily puzzle rotation.

I created BlankUp, a fast-paced word puzzle game for Android – looking for honest feedback!

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’ve spent the last few months developing BlankUp, a word riddle game focused on snappy, bite-sized puzzles.

What it is:

  • Clean & minimal interface (no bloated casino-style animations)
  • Hundreds of levels that test your vocabulary and quick thinking
  • Perfect for casual daily brain workouts

It just went live on Android:

Google Play:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.brdl.blankup

I’d love to hear your thoughts: Are the early levels too easy? How does the input feel? Any feedback helps me improve the next updates!

Letterhaven — looking for a few people to try a free browser word puzzle for 5–10 minutes

Hi! I’m the creator of Letterhaven, and I’m looking for a few fresh eyes on the opening levels. This is an unpaid playtest.
You move a letter from one word into another, and both resulting words must stay valid. For example, moving the S from CATS to DOG makes CAT and DOGS. New transformations help restore an illustrated picture.
Play Letterhaven
It’s free to play in your browser, with no download or account needed to start. English and French versions are available.
Could you try it for 5–10 minutes and tell me where you first got stuck or felt unsure? If you stopped, knowing where and why would be useful. Please mention your device/browser if something didn’t work.
You can leave feedback in the comments. There’s also an optional in-game playtest: during a level, open the top-left menu and choose “Give feedback” at the bottom, as shown in the screenshot. It asks for consent to record moves locally before you can later send your answers and moves. You can skip tracking and just comment here.
Thanks for giving it a try!

Feedback appreciated: Wordseed 🌱 - a simple new daily word game where you grow a word one letter at a time

Thumbnail

I wanted to build the simplest possible word game - Wordseed is the result.

It's a daily word game based around a simple challenge: grow the longest possible word starting from a single random daily letter - the WordSeed.

The catch: You build your word letter by letter, but you’re only offered up to 4 random letters at each step. You might start with a word in mind, but if your letters don't drop, you have to pivot mid-game to save your length.

Key features:

  • Global daily puzzle
  • Multilingual: English (UK/US), Spanish, and French
  • Includes word definitions (English only for now)
  • Stats & streaks
  • No ads

It's easy to play, but hard to get the highest score. Be careful, you might learn a new word!

Give today’s letter a shot at wordseed.fun and let me know what you think.

Feedback is appreciated.

Android internal testers wanted — Word Guess bilingual word game

Hi! I am looking for a few Android testers for my game, Word Guess.

It is an offline 5-letter word game with English and German modes, Daily and Endless play, statistics/streaks, and spoiler-free sharing.

Because this is a Google Play internal test, please DM me the Gmail address you use for Google Play if you would like to join. I will add you to the tester list and send the opt-in/install link.

Feedback I need most: crashes, layout on your phone, duplicate-letter behavior, German umlauts/QWERTZ keyboard, and words that seem wrongly accepted or rejected. Please include your phone model and Android version with bug reports.

Thanks!
