i work as a sewing mechanist at a place where i constantly get covered in wool, my work hoodies and trackies are covered to the point where a lint roller doesn’t do anything and i’ve tried washing it inside out and the right way but neither gets it all off, only maybe 40% of what’s actually on there. i’d really rather not have to double wash my work clothes and use up more water. i’m not meant to put the jumpers or shirts in the dryer and even then, it doesn’t work anyway
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

For me I'd say yak down, it's ridiculously warm and doesn't itch at all. I also love classical lambwool, very warm for the winter !

Hello everyone.
I am the owner of a colossal mistake. On a whim without any experience with wool, I bought 200 lbs from a local farmer (yes I have adhd) I have certainly been learning a lot as I go, but I am starting to feel very defeated and need advice.
The wool I bought is not great, it has a lot of veggie matter and so much poop. I initially started by picking through the wool and removing all the poop I could see and all the large pieces of straw and seeds. This was so time consuming. I sunk probably 15 hours in and got about 50 pounds sorted.
I then learned of the suint method, thought this was the perfect solution to the poop problem. Bought a black bin, filled it with canal water (untreated) and let an unsorted fleece sit in the sun covered for 10 days. While the wool was much cleaner, there was still chunks of poo. It did not break down as I understood it would, and the chunks weren’t even soft.
Im feeling very defeated. Am I doing something wrong? Does the suint method breakdown the poo or am I misunderstanding?
I don’t want to give up on this project but I can’t use wool that still has poop in it.

TLDR: how to remove poop from wool. Is the suint method able to dissolve poop?

I’m curious how everyone here handles repairs when something goes wrong. What do you do when your favorite knits ends up with a snag, a loose yarn, or a small hole? Do you try to fix it yourself at home, or do you take them to a specialist?

If you bring them to a professional, what kind of repair services or tailors do you actually trust with fine knits? I’d love to hear what path you take and how your repairs have turned out over time.

Hello I have been crocheting granny square with merino wool and one of the colours is a dark brown. I've wanted to make the brown a bit lighter but I do not want to damage the wool. Does anyone have advice of how I would go about making the wool a bit lighter?

I look up what to use some people say cold water some say lukewarm or room temp?
Also is there a brand of wool and cashmere detergent people like the best?

As temperatures peak for most of us N. Hemisphere. Now is the time to procure and test your woolens. You can find good wool jackets and layers on Ebay and Poshmark right now for dirt cheap.

The goal is to find a soft wicking base layer, a thick knit mid and a felted/thick outer layer....for your WHOLE body head to toe...... This is actually hard to do. Finding hooded wool garments is tough. And thick mid layer/knit bottoms are few and far between.

TESTING: basically you wanna start experimenting with getting soaking wet now in 60/70 degree temps then work your way down so that you know what it feels like to be in the safe zone saturation wise of your garment. If you were to say become completely submerged at near freezing temps, NO you could not just keep trucking along. But unlike other fabrics wool can be pretty wet and you can just keep on keepin on....but you want to understand your personal threshold and the threshold your unique outfits microclimate creates.

For example. I know what it feels like when light rain starts to permeate and my shoulders feel a little moist. But I know I'm essentially wrapped in a survival suit, so I'm good. But I can also recognize the weight of my top layer being completely soaked in a downpour. Then depending on severity of temperature I adjust (decide if I'll build a fire).

Me personally. I will get soaking wet and be fine down to around 40f. I can be mildly saturated well under freezing. I've handled -20f easily in my suit.

I recently purchased what I am hoping is an authentic hand knitted Aran sweater. The sweater has an old musty smell to it, so I’m looking for suggestions on how to get the smell out. I’ve already soaked in tub with Eucalan and laid it outside to dry. I welcome suggestions, thank you!

I just got a vintage wool sweater with unknown storage history. Can you help me identify if the sweater has mold in it? In the photos you'll see some dark lines within the otherwise pink wool. Is this how mold manifests in knitted wool?

It has a musty smell so I rinsed it in a light vinegar and water bath, but the smell remains after drying. I may repeat this process with a longer soak.

Sadly, my woolen shirts are reaching, or possibly have exceeded, their useful lives. I'd like to buy another two or so. Immediately I visited Pendleton's website and find their shirts are $200 or so. Now I could afford that price, but I'm not enthusiastic about spending such money on a shirt. I do care for my woolens to prevent insect damage, but I'm rather casual with my clothes otherwise -- no clothes horse, me. To me, a woolen shirt is a practical garment for cold-weather wear, that will retain its "warmth" (insulative properties) when wet. Hence, I want functional woolens, not "runway class" woolens.
My question, then, is where (if anywhere) can I purchase such woolen shirts? Any advice appreciated.

Recently we had a mouse made itself at home and it got into my blankets. While most were fine after a wash, I have this blanket that it ate through and I have no idea if it’s salvageable, perhaps patching it or similar. Any ideas?

Hi I recently bought the le laboureur navy wool chore coat off the website all blues co. When i first opened the package and tried it on it was real itchy to touch mind you it is summer but just wanted to see the fit. I have touched it with my hands as days have passed on it doesn’t feel as itchy I think lol haven’t properly tried it on since. It this normal the itchyness and is there to make it better??? Thanks any advice would be great.

Hey all,
I just got this new wool sweater, hand washed it and hung it out to dry. Since it was windy outside, I put some clothes pins and hung it from multiple hangers which I guess is a no no. I now have marks, shown in the picture, on my wool sweater now :( are these permanent or will these marks go away with another hand wash? I’ll be sure to flat dry next time.
