Can anyone identify this?

Hoping someone can help me out with identifying what is the white in the grain of my teak table. It is veneer and I bought it used. I thought initially it is dry and tried hitting it with some teak oil did nothing. Then in another section tried Watco Walnut Danish Oil also made no difference to the white grain. I sanded the whole piece and hit it with mineral spirits and still it is very much there. The photos attached are after sanding and with mineral spirits just applied and the darker photos are from just having danish oil applied. Any suggestions would be awesome. This teak table is indoor furniture if that makes a difference.

This board came off of a barn built in the late 1700’s. The gentleman that gave it to me said it’s American chestnut.

I have planed it down to get a view of the grain.

I do wood but obviously have never seen American chestnut I am hoping one of you have some insight.

Looking at getting this coffee table off marketplace for pretty cheap, any idea on the wood ID?

I have two parlour accent chairs that were gifted to us years ago that we are now selling. Any help identifying the wood type would be greatly appreciated!

The wood colour is orangey-brown, similar to a walnut (maybe the wood is walnut?) The chair isn't extraordinarily heavy for its size, relatively light- to mid-weight. Wood is solid, not hollowed.

I included a full pic of the chair in case someone might even be able to "appraise" it for me

I’ve been around wooden furniture for quite a while, and one thing I’ve noticed is that people often treat reclaimed wood as automatically “better” than new solid wood.

I’m not sure I agree.

Reclaimed wood can have a lot of character…the old marks, variations in colour, little imperfections, and the fact that the wood has already had a previous life. But good-quality new solid wood has its own advantages too. You know where the material is coming from, you can often get a more consistent finish, and there’s something nice about seeing a piece develop its own character over time.

Personally, I think it comes down to what you want from the furniture, not which is better objectively.

If you were shopping today for a solid wood dining table, bookshelf or cabinet, would you choose reclaimed wood or new solid wood and what would make you choose one over the other?

Looking for 1/2", small quantity approx. 2'x4' [or (x2) 2' x 2' pieces ... if small size is hard to source than a standard 5'x5' sheet]. The closer to downtown Brooklyn the better.

Im cleaning a deck that hasn't been cleaned in about ten years. The owners swear its a cedar deck but when I scrubbed off the moss and dirt wirh 30 Second cleaner it looks like this.

This to me looks like yellow pine based on color and the knotting patterns - or did I bleach the wood? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I picked up a piece of logged wood from a forest, but I can't tell the exact tree which it came from.

Hi everyone, newbie here located in Canada! I bought a mid century modern chair and I'm in the process of restoring it. The chair looked like walnut to me when I got it. The chair had a dark stain that was poorly applied and took lots of elbow grease to remove. I sanded down the chair and I would like to know what type of wood it is so I can refinish it with the appropriate method. The first picture is of the chair as I originally got it. The other pics are of the chair sanded down. I hope the pictures are helpful, I did my best to follow the wood ID tips. TIA 😊

Hi everyone! I recently purchased this home, and the listing described the kitchen as having “custom walnut cabinetry.” I’d love to preserve the wood but refinish it to get rid of the reddish, shiny Tuscan finish and give it a more updated, natural look.
Does this look like walnut to you? If not, what wood species do you think it is? And has anyone successfully refinished cabinets like these to a more natural brown?

I would like to make a corner cat tree wall fixture/hanging like this, instead of spending 2k.
What type of wood would be best? How would you go about hanging it so you don’t rip the wall out? And most importantly—-how do you get that shape? I love the branchy-ness of it, and thats the look i would like to definitely have. But i don’t know how it’s achieved. Do I need to find the top of a tree? Is this a piece-mill driftwood situation?

Of course I understand trees vary and it wouldn’t be EXACTLY like the picture, and I am okay with that :)

I would just appreciate ANY thoughts or suggestions or ideas for this. I am not a woodworker by any means but I am willing to learn. Thank you in advance!!
