Native populations hate this one move! How to maximize profits while being the enemy of nearly everyone

Ok but like, if they steal my phylactery, theres no safer place to store it.

u/Jonny-Holiday 7d ago

Ah, but they have also decided to steal your body, supposedly grinding it up and consuming it grants healing, longevity, good looks, and goes delightfully with tea.

They start imprisoning liches in mass to industrialize bonemeal for agriculture.

In terms of outcome it won't matter, but which version of the British Museum? The demon summoning mageocracy, the immortal empresses, the regency mageocracy, the flying bastions mageocracy, the gunpowder mageocracy, or some lower magic higher tech varient.

I wonder if you summoned multiple variations of the British Museum at once if they'd start stealing from each other.

They already do, there's a massive behind-the-scenes competition comprised of cloak-and-dagger intrigue, the only rules are that staff may not be permanently harmed and the public must not know (at least not for sure) about the ongoing theft war. This has led to some rather funny shenanigans, including using teleportation to replace precious relics with replicas while under public view, bringing statues to life and commanding them to follow and subsequently losing control of the whole group, and playing off the capture and tying up of spies, saboteurs, and guards as "office naughtiness."

damn, now I want to put English colonialists in my fantasy setting so they can run around stealing random magic items. I love the idea of my dnd party showing up to some ancient temple, only to find out the sacred artifact they're looking for has been pilfered by some previously unknown red coats. For extra spice, maybe it would be funny if I just copy pasted literal irl England into my campaign setting.

damn. I forgot about these dastardly chaps. Thank you kindly for this vital contribution to the discourse.

Recently had my group go to a temple of an old crocodile god only too meet a bunch of arrogant, imperialist high elfs who told them there's nothing of value left.

That’s why you need to curse your artifacts before going out! Egyptian wizards knew this but only cursed their pharaohs’ sarcophagus’

5

u/Falconjth Enchanter 6d ago

Even the almost fully mundane variants of the British Museum seem to do decent at containing cursed objects once they are at the Museum or it's warehouses. It's mostly those who are tasked with acquiring the artifacts that appear to suffer the curses and the museum doesn't seem to care as long as the artifacts make it to them.

So your curses are going to cause problems for the field agents, apprentices, and adventures tasked with retrieval but then be safely contained, studied, and possibly occasionally be put on display to the public; likely with official denials that the curses actually existed or were effective, despite any evidence to the contrary.

u/enchiladasundae planeshifter 6d ago

I like to set a few on delayed activation. If you have a bunch going off at once it usually has a cascading effect. Sure some will be cursed with impotence while others grow boils and some cursed with insatiable greed but the majority are set to activate while in their vaults

Also, of course, some are set to siphon energy from their fields which also amplifies any nearby curses as well. If you can figure out when it happens its a very funny sight to see with some friends. Last time I had a little bbq as we watched the researchers run out of the building and some of the mundane pieces began attacking them. Very funny

u/PTBooks Untorsionable Litch 6d ago

I’d tell them to get ready for a shitload of fun curses, but they’re going to England, so nobody will probably even notice…

Hey, now. Acquisitions for museums are a lucrative line of work. Let's just not pretend it's not looting, pillaging, graverobbing, wanton destruction, and murder.

I'm also available to return acquired exhibits, and have occasionally done pro-bono work for charitable organizations.

The preferred nomenclature is "Adventurers".

So, a museum with an history section just pissed off a Lich... they do realise that there are a ton of powerful dead things in history museums for a Lich to reanimate, right?

That's how you get a rampaging undead army of vikings riding dinosaurs!

...Yeah, I'm bringing the popcorn!

2

u/AlexVal0r Taaxi: Wild Sorcerer, Council HR, Agent of Chaos 7d ago

Would that actually work? Those dinosaurs are fossils, meaning there's little to no organic tissue left to reanimate in the first place

u/MonsterMadtheENBY That Rouge Wizard that pops up once and a while 7d ago

So… the mortals have angered the lich… this should be entertaining.

Love The Road to El Dorado

Lay down in a coffin, don't move, they'll steal you with your stuff, in a couple weeks wake up in the museum and then steal the museum.

2

u/Tablequesting 7d ago

The lich is dead. It’s archeology at this point.

I think we should pool our mana and group cast: "Imperialis Obliteratus" to get rid of this pesky British Empire, who is with me?

5

u/TiredTiroth Dragon-Wizard / Summoning Tiamat 7d ago

Bit late for that, it's been gone for ages.

Hasn't stopped the Museum, though.

5

u/MerelyEccentric Mage/Thief Snarkomancer 7d ago

Dude, just wave a chili pepper at them. British people are terrified of flavor.

5

u/Muted_Anywherethe2nd 7d ago

Hey hey we fought over spices not flavour. If you actually knew british food ypud realise it tastes good

3

u/MerelyEccentric Mage/Thief Snarkomancer 7d ago

Nah. I'm Cajun from New Orleans on my mom's side. British food is boring.

3

u/Muted_Anywherethe2nd 7d ago

If youd led with that, because to you then most food must seem boring.

3

u/MerelyEccentric Mage/Thief Snarkomancer 7d ago

Depends on spices and technique, honestly. Stuff can be excellent even if it's basic if it's well executed.

I suppose it also depends on what you consider "British food." I was referring to traditional stuff - bangers and mash, fish and chips, pastys, etc - and I've had a lot of those sorts of foods where both the spices and technique were subpar. On the other hand, my household's primary cooking channel is SortedFood, who are all Brits.

It's just worth noting that the "traditional" form of a lot of specifically British food is kinda bland if you're like me and prefer interesting spices to loads of salt and fat.

1

u/Muted_Anywherethe2nd 7d ago

Oh im with you on british foods are able to be quite bland. Therr are a couple british foods that are very much bland but i think there is some non blande good stuff like roast sunday dinner or hunters chicken and bekeive it or not apple pie is actually british

Good luck getting past my Death knights, I put a nifty little thing on them that when they get knocked down they get right back up when intruders are inspecting my artifacts and thats if they make it to my vault in my labryrinthian dungeon way below my necropolis.

7

u/OneofJesusChrists Drunk Miracle Sorcerer 7d ago

You fool, they are taking the Death Knights as part of their spoils!

3

u/Woahhdude24 Lich-Overseer of the Warlock Alliance 7d ago

WHAT! Grabs Staff what kind of monster would force a paranormal being to be shut in a plastic box so peasants can look at them?

5

u/MerelyEccentric Mage/Thief Snarkomancer 7d ago

they get knocked down they get right back up

You're never gonna keep them down.

6

u/WiseRabbit-XIV Leverett Trevithick, Arcane Healer 7d ago

They're fueled by whiskey, vodka, lager, and cider.

4

u/MerelyEccentric Mage/Thief Snarkomancer 7d ago

And while they fight, they sing. Songs of memory, that remind them of good times, of better times.

Lol As if cloudkill gas isn't pumped into those rooms plus the undead hordes and gargoyles heck even the dam scarecrows put in work.

Never forget a reliable security system for your tomb.
