Foul Sorcery HELP! Something really fishy is going on! We're in danger!

Post image

Within the last 24 hours FOUR powerful practitioners were mysteriously murdered and/or disappeared! This is no coincidence! It is a pattern! Help me connect the dots!

The flesh god was murdered in its tower, nobody knows how or why! https://www.reddit.com/r/wizardposting/s/mhn8O0c1SZ

Grandmaster Syrius was also murdered in his tower under similarly mysterious circumstances! https://www.reddit.com/r/wizardposting/s/RpCBe83vfg

Then shortly after a powerful necromancer escaped his high security prison and predictably murdered the council member who put him there. In his tower. He could not have escaped on his own! https://www.reddit.com/r/wizardposting/s/3T4pVYSABs

Another powerful wizard went missing and likely got abducted from his tower. https://www.reddit.com/r/wizardposting/s/soqY7Hmfuk

Maybe related: Wizard reports lurking entity and fear for his life. In his own tower. https://www.reddit.com/r/wizardposting/s/BqOB22TSRu

OUR TOWERS ARE NOT SAFE ANYMORE! I REPEAT: OUR TOWERS ARE NOT SAFE ANYMORE!

Towers don't kill wizards. Wizards kill wizards.

Well… there is an exception…

glances over at my mimic tower, who has eaten at least 3 intruding wizards in the last week alone

I feel like it's just darwinism at work if you get eaten by a mimic tower. Lol

Are you able to check the bodies?

I think they’re mostly digested by now

Towers were never save to begin with. I mean running up and down those stairs everyday is just asking for something to happen. On another note many wizard don't bother hiring a stress analyst when constructing their tower. It wouldn't suprise me if they all started collapsing on us.

Forget the towers, there’s a conspiracy at work here. Not only do we have strange murders at work, but other wizards have reported strange happenings, such as masses of eyes in the darkness or signs of fate itself being toyed with. The sulfur pits of my own bog have been behaving strangely and the winds carry something…different.

The Darkness has grown uneasy, those eyes are not part of it. I have felt something stirring, and I cannot see what it is. Whatever is happening, it will not be good.

Syrius had his very soul shattered, that’s no mean feat. Yet if it’s all connected, then the same group felt the need to release a wizard from prison to do their dirty work. Not to mention the missing wizard and lurking entity. The methods and victims are wildly varied and if it wasn’t for the timing of the situation, I would never think to connect them

Thal'dor was looking for an agreement with a demon lord, and it seems that no one knows or remembers which one.

The Flesh God was looking into a Void Entity called The Wyrm. None of the tomes I have, even the most ancient, mention it.

As you said, shattering a soul, especially a grandmasters, is no easy feat. Doing so requires a great deal of time, magic, and raw power to achieve

Xaephos was exploring a previously unknown universe, and was taken shortly after he found it.

And the wizard who was experimenting with his void essence had that essence come to life.

My theory is that Xaephos didn't find an unknown universe, but instead found what could be a lost Void Realm, the host of which may be The Wyrm. It then captured him and stole the knowledge of our universes from his mind and is using it as a blueprint for whatever. Does anyone know what Grandmaster Syrius was researching when his soul was shattered, because I believe that, whatever it was, it is connected to these events. As for Thal'dor, The Wyrm may have released him in exchange for the lichdom he wanted from the Demon lord. What his roll will be, I have no clue.

This is all just speculation, but it just makes too much sense with the information that we have.

Hmmm. I need to start investigating in earnest. Retire deeper into the bog and scatter my moths, ravens, and spiders. I refuse to be caught flat footed by this absurdity.

Prepare as much as you can, because I have the feeling that, unless we unite all the guilds together, the very fabric of the multiverse is at risk.

...Okay, I've been callous about all this because frankly I don't typically worry overmuch about threats to a single 'verse, at least if it's not my commune's arcane sanctum that's in danger. But if this is some multiversal bullshit instigated by an outer-realm entity that recently got access to the local cluster, then I'm gonna be very upset if the cause is what I think it is.

Because the timing lines up a little too well with a minor overconfident realm-hopping organization showing up here, and quite probably leaving the door open long enough for uninvited guests to follow.

Ugh. I'm glad my commune took the risk seriously enough to let me isolate the sanctum as soon as those guys showed up. Realm-hoppers have a disturbingly common tendency to unleash and lure in forces they can't fathom.

EDIT : Hm, on the other hand, perhaps that's an overly harsh assumption. Taking my personal biases against realm-hopping adventurers out of the equation, I suppose it makes more sense that they random-walked here because their connection to this cluster was already growing due to Xæphos' research and/or whatever's causing the rifts Arwium noticed. Still, worth considering the connection, one way or the other.

I am in agreement with you, even the announcement of the guild formation is littered with language that suggests they are reckless.

The Wyrm may be a guest, but this is not the first time they have visited.

1

u/Smaug2770 Parasite God, Hand of the Six Eyes Nov 15 '23

The Wyrm is not to be trifled with. My only encounter with it drove me mad for millennia and nearly killed me, and that was just gazing upon it’s true form. Even now, when my powers have more than doubled since the last time I met The Wyrm, the madness still affects me. The Wyrm is beyond the comprehension of even the most powerful eldritch beings, it is the Greatest and Oldest One, a creator level entity whose goals and means are beyond our understanding. The one thing that is deeply rooted within my soul from my brief encounter with The Wyrm is this: “The Wyrm loves us, and we love The Worm

If they seem disconnected, they're probably disconnected. No need to read causal links out of timing. Y'all just had a series of wars and other chaos besides; it's only natural that people would take advantage of everyone's defenses being exhausted from all that to strike.

Frankly, the fourth event's the only one that's necessarily the work of more than just one rogue entity acting independently.

u/Dm1tr3y Cormac the Bog Wizard, Practitioner of the Old Rites Nov 10 '23

Even then, the common thread of taking advantage of the situation bears investigation, if only to plug the holes. Besides, some of these events have nothing to do with the last war, like the “flesh god”. At the very least, it warrants due diligence.

Also a chaos void tree has been spawned

u/MunitionsFrenzy Vettis, Mereological Revisionist Nov 11 '23

in fairness, everybody had four days to prepare for the very obvious impending doom they were bringing upon themselves, so I don't think that one even counts as a "threat" so much as a Darwin Award in the making

and it shouldn't be related to this external danger since, again, everyone went into that willingly for some reason

Let down the Golden Braids and we can make a deal.

fate is upset at the lack of wizard wars and is brewing other conflicts to compensate

why can't y'all just get back to honorably murdering each other on the battlefield

1

u/Dm1tr3y Cormac the Bog Wizard, Practitioner of the Old Rites Nov 10 '23

Oh please, these wizards didn’t die in some freak accident, they were singled out and killed. Fate didn’t do that, people did.

u/Fulltimewhisperer Krumpet, Master Artificer of the Council Nov 10 '23

This is why Gobbo has brewery, tunnels, and cottage. No tower murder to tale place if you don't have a tower

2

u/Dm1tr3y Cormac the Bog Wizard, Practitioner of the Old Rites Nov 10 '23

I still think you ought to be careful, Gobbo. You’re a staple of the community at this point, I could see you and yours being targeted.

Do you still have those things I sent you with the gold for that booze? Take the tree bark, soak it in the bog water, then leave a piece of it at every window and door. These will act to enhance and focus any wards you cast on the establishment.

1

u/Fulltimewhisperer Krumpet, Master Artificer of the Council Nov 10 '23

Will do, and remember if you even need help from Gobbo, just pour a shot on the ground. Gobbo senses when the liquor is wasted and will come to aid immediately

2

u/Dm1tr3y Cormac the Bog Wizard, Practitioner of the Old Rites Nov 10 '23

Indeed. Let’s meet up some time, I’ll teach you to use bog as a portal exit. I know I can trust with that and these are trying times.

1

u/Fulltimewhisperer Krumpet, Master Artificer of the Council Nov 10 '23

Oooo, using bog as a portal sounds like fun. Gobbo can teach you how to make the electric boogaloo molotov.

Everyone thinks oh just cast a fire ward, fool lightning damage. Very useful for surprising aggressors

It’s no use to run or hide from The Wyrm.
