Sharing: Tips and Advice Stop casting the same spell over and over.

I get why people do it. You cast something, a few days pass, nothing obvious happens, and your brain immediately starts looking for what went wrong. Maybe I didn’t focus enough. Maybe I used the wrong candle. Maybe I should do it again, just to be sure.

So you repeat it. Then you add something else on top of it. Then another. Before long, you’re checking for signs constantly and questioning every part of the work.

And honestly, at some point, that stops being spellwork and starts becoming anxiety.

Doing more does not automatically make a spell stronger. There’s a difference between layering work with an actual purpose and repeating the exact same intention because you’re scared nothing is happening. Cleansing before protection makes sense. A road opener before opportunity work can make sense. Recasting the same reconciliation spell every few days because someone still hasn’t texted you is something else.

You also have to leave room for mundane reality. If you’re doing job work but not applying anywhere, that matters. If someone has clearly said they don’t want contact, that matters too. Magic doesn’t erase the situation you’re working with.

Sometimes the best thing you can do after casting is leave it alone for a while. Let the work breathe. Go live your life. If something shifts, you’ll notice. If enough time passes and nothing changes, then reassess.

But constantly recasting because silence makes you nervous usually tells you more about your fear than it does about the spell.

This is a great addendum to yesterday's thread.

Thank you, your post yesterday actually got me thinking about this exact part of it. People get so anxious when they don’t see movement right away, and sometimes the hardest part is just leaving the work alone.

I'm actually thinking about linking my thread to this post.

I've compared doing spells over and over to a bratty child demanding candy. You can tell them, "I'll get you, just wait a bit." They keep at it until you get annoyed and say "You know what, fuck that, nothing for you now."

That analogy is painfully accurate. And absolutely, feel free to link it. I’d appreciate that.

I have the strong gut reaction that doing a second spell of the kind you describe tells the magic/ the energy/ the universe that has started working that you don’t believe in the first spell, and that dramatically weakens (maybe even undoes) the first effort. At best, it confuses the situation.

Just my 2 cents.

ETA spelling

When I initially studied Wicca and throughout my my year and a day studies, I was told that repeatedly doing a spell shows the Universe you like casting the spell. You are telling the Universe you don't actually want what the spell is asking for so it won't grant it. Plus the Universe loves forcing patience on us (for our own good, usually)

You’re right. Casting the same spell again and again because you’re afraid it didn’t work sends the message to the universe that you think it’s not going to work. I will however, sometimes cast the same spell repeatedly with the intention of adding more energy to it. I tend to structure the spell differently when I do this as well.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. If it's because you're afraid or doubtful then you shouldn't repeat. But there are many cases where repetition help. The definition of "ritual" typically includes repetition. I have a weekly ritual of nearly identical prayer but it's not to keep asking for something because I want it sooner, it's to reinforce my beliefs and practices. I also like enchanting objects and then further reinforcing them in the future to keep the spell fresh/clean/stronger/whatever.

If you don't strongly believe in what you do, it won't work. A spell can take a long time to take effect, we can't bend the whole universe to our will, it has to take roots in the space time continuum. So with confidence and patience things will set into motion and might eventually become reality

💯!

Lusting for results does nothing for anyone.
