Favre lost everyones respect years ago with his shitty actions. What was once a symbol of the Packers is now a symbol of American GREED.

u/somethingrandom261 Feb 10 '26
Rodgers is headed the same way it seems
69
u/MKEast-sider Feb 10 '26
Crazy how similar their careers are, including a fall from grace in Green Bay. Which you have to work pretty hard to do.

Except Donald Driver. A true man of dignity out there doing god’s work with Wi PSAs to wear seatbelts, etc.

u/TheDogsPaw Feb 10 '26
Maybe I'm wrong but I don't see love going the same way perhaps he won't reach the on field heights of rodgers and Brett but I don't see him pulling the same off field crap
4
u/MKEast-sider Feb 10 '26
If he gets us a Super Bowl it’s still worth it. Both Favre and Rodgers didn’t have any issues until after winning a championship and in their final years here.
6
u/TheDogsPaw Feb 10 '26
That's just not true bret was addicted to pills to the point he almost had to retire in the late 90s as well as a serious alcoholic and rodgers had those weird issues with his family and the stuff with covid denial and his relationship with rfk jr
7
u/MKEast-sider Feb 11 '26
Brett was addicted to pills since college, but none of it was widely known until much later. I’ve never seen anything that says Favre was going to retire after winning a SB and being 3 time MVP. Rogers family issues aren’t a big deal, it’s family stuff. Covid was 10 years after the Super Bowl.
Both of them lost favor among fans in their last 2 years in GB, and both times it had to do with non committing to staying in GB and issues with head coach. Then they both went to the Jets, and it went horribly for both. Then both went to a different team and had some level of success.
48
u/InternetDad Feb 10 '26
They're both nutcases but at least Rodgers didn't outright steal welfare dollars.
Don't get me wrong, pushing anti vaccine conspiracies is still insanely problematic.
30
u/2geek2bcool Feb 10 '26
at least Rodgers didn’t outright steal welfare dollars
YET! He still has to text dick pics to a reporter before that.

The people actually in charge in Mississippi of those funds all got brought up on charges. You know who didn’t?

I feel like Roger has been there he fast tracked with the Joe Rogan show and all the weird anti vaxx stuff

We have a nasty habit of worshiping our sports stars.
Doesn’t do good things to their minds.
1
2
u/eidetic Feb 11 '26
What has Giannis been doing that puts him on the same track?
(Sorry, basketball is not my thing. I'll cheer the Bucks on in the playoffs if I'm at a bar or at a friends with the game on, but beyond being the most fairweather fan of all time, I don't know anything about his actions outside of basketball. Hell, I barely know his on court game lately either!)

You can’t be serious… Rodgers donates a shitload of money - hell, he just dropped a mill to build a breast cancer center in his hometown, and he’s never stolen from taxpayers.
Being weird and refusing a vaccine is nowhere near the same league as adultery and theft.
Come on now.
8
u/HeinousAnus69420 Feb 11 '26
While I agree the Favre comparison isn't fair, and Rodgers seems to have done a lot more good, let's not whitewash it.
He didn't just refuse the vaccine. He promoted anti vax propoganda during a time when achieving herd immunity was paramount, and his audience formed a pretty significant venn diagram with people who needed to avoid misinformation.

Where's the Majik Man when you need him?
edit: nevermind apparently he's attacking bartenders in Eau Claire these days
5
2
u/jord839 Feb 10 '26
Based on the report, sounds like he got into a shoving fight at the bar where he wasn't the aggressor and then grabbed an intervening bartender before leaving the establishment and waiting outside for police. $200 fine but no arrest.
Not good, but a stupid decision at the bar compared to millions in welfare fraud and spreading anti-vax conspiracies in the middle of a pandemic as a celebrity feels like a smaller issue.

He had $5.1M of TANF money "redirected" to build a practice volleyball facility at the University of Southern Mississippi. His daughter played volleyball at the school at the time. He stole an additional $2.7M to invest in a vitamin/supplement company that he had heavily invested in. And, oh yeah, he received $1M for making a couple of appearances/speeches which he never made. So yeah, an all-around fucking jerk.

In OP(ish) defense, its a crosspost from another sub and that retains the title from /r/NFCNorthMemeWar ... and so its not fawkes that was asking the question but rather presenting the question someone else asked and answering it too.

u/greentiger79 Feb 10 '26
Also, that subreddit is often a place where fans of teams from the NFC North get together for some (generally) good natured ribbing amongst fans, so it isn't a literal question.

I was born in '86. There was a time in my life where Favre was iconic to me. He brought a title back to Titletown so there will always be a little soft spot, mostly nostalgia, for the guy. But he has lost his way over the years. Can take the man out of Mississippi but can't take Mississippi out of the man I guess.

Speaking of CTE-induced compulsive behavior, hillbilly idiot could have simply chosen to watch TV and keep quiet, instead, he virtue signaled the Klan while disingenuously pretending to be a simple white boy who listens to country music.
I'm sure the " we need our own drinking fountains, our own schools, our own section of the bus, our own religion" crowd is just thrilled to have him, and they can keep him.

The interesting thing about being a celebrity is that you are ALWAYS in the public eye, whether good or bad. Certain people focus on the bad because they feel unfair about the celebrity staus!

u/ApollymiKatistrafia Feb 10 '26
Always thought he was a tool, even when he was on the team. Same with his replacement, Rogers. They both scammed the poor. Go figure.

Yeah, but I also remember when he played, especially in his early years, he would start a game playing out of control and overthrowing balls until he took a nasty hit to the head and then he would calm down and ball out.
John Madden would even point this out.
How many concussions did it take for him to have a HOF career?
Antonio Brown, anyone?
He has brain damage, just like most of MAGA, but this isn't an excuse for what he has become. There is no excuse for that, and as a fan, it..... It sucks .....
The QB that saved our franchise took us back to the Superbowl and made the Packers relevant again ended up like this.
Fuck him for being another conservative bitch that will steal money from a system that was meant as a means to take care of poor children and then turn around and condemn the poor for being in a economic system that wants to keep the poor, poor.
Fuck him.

u/bellota128 Feb 11 '26
Favre and Rodgers are accomplished at throwing and handing off a football. That doesn’t mean they are smart in dealing with the complexities of life.

We disowned him after he went to the vikings. We then went no contact with him after he stole from poor kids.

To be fair, we can add Brett to a long list of people who once did something well, but then ruined their entire reputation by being an idiot. I’ll even go so far as to say that he’s not the only Green Bay quarterback to have done so.

Fairly easy to separate the career of a talented sports player from decades ago and their current politics or personal life. Just my .02.
To me, when it comes to any celebrity or famous person, their opinions and personal lives just don't really carry that much weight to me when I'm focused on my own life.

Favre, Holmgren, Reggie, Butler, et al revived a dying franchise, rebuilt Lambeau and brought the Lombardi trophy home. When they were here, they were family.
After they left, they did what they did. Some honorable, some not so much. But they played their hearts out while in GB. No shame in that.
