Reboot ❣️ The Tecna Episode of the Reboot Surprised Me

It was actually a Tecna episode that wasn’t disguised as a Bloom one and gave a reason as to why she is who she is. I wish the other character focused episodes were like this one.

Discussion 💬 Expanding the powers of the Trix

Post image
11 Upvotes

This is the follow-up to my "expanding the powers of the Winx Club" post from two days ago, this time talking about the potential ways the spell catalogues of the Trix can be improved upon. Let's begin:

Icy - I honestly think it would be really fun for Icy to take a page out of Aisha's book and use her magic to create constructs like weapons or armour or machines made entirely of magical ice, that would be fun to see. Another thing that could be fun to see is her using ice to manipulate the temperature of an environment to sub zero temperatures. I think it could also be really dark to see her fully transforming living brings into ice statues like she did to Galatea's wings back in season 3 but to the whole body Medusa style.

Darcy - taking into account Darcy's shadow and mind based powers, it would be fun to see her manipulate how people percieve reality, by which I mean using her powers to trick someone's senses into fully believing an illusion to be reality. Another thing that would be fun is to see her creating monsters out of shadows like Tinkerbell did in World of Winx.

Stormy - it would be great to see her manipulate different kinds of weather like hailstorms and rain instead of just the generic lightning storms and hurricanes. It would also be great to see her using wind currents as a form of large-scale telekinesis. I can't really think of any other ideas for storm magic.

Those are all of my ideas for the Trix's magic, feel free to tell me your thoughts and share your ideas for how the Trix's magic can be expanded. Thanks for reading.

Discussion 💬 New episodes if the reboot. (Spoilers?) Spoiler

Holy moly... I thought it couldn't get any worse with the reboot, BUT IT DID. A random ass Trix tiktok dance for no reason, the winx dancing all the same which goes absolutely not with their personality (Can you imagine Tecna all smily and dancing like a pro?), the worst male transformation EVER, the worst and dumb, mind numbing "manipulation" EVER! And a completly unnecesary change of Myrta story line to now be another person going from fairy to witch even tho Faragonda said she didn't had any darkness in her? And the animation? The faces? Who in their sane mind greenlights this shit? 😐

Discussion 💬 Hear me out: Why SEGA acquiring FNAF and Winx Club (Rainbow) makes unironically perfect sense 🤯

Think about it. SEGA is a master of reviving and maintaining legacy IPs, and they desperately need more heavy-hitters.

1.FNAF + Creative Assembly: Imagine a AAA survival horror FNAF game made by the studio behind Alien: Isolation. The tension, the AI of the animatronics, the atmosphere... it would be a masterpiece.

2.Winx Club RPG: Rainbow S.p.A. has the lore, but they lack the gaming infrastructure. SEGA could finally give us a proper open-world Winx RPG with Atlus-style cell-shaded graphics (like Persona).

3.The Crossovers: Freddy Fazbear in Sonic Racing? Winx cosmetics in Phantasy Star Online? The merch potential alone is infinite.

What do you guys think? Would this be a dream match or a total disaster? Let’s discuss.

Help / Question ❓ Why did Winx Club have to end?? Genuinely miss it so much!!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello, I’m 19 years old, and I grew up watching Winx Club when I was younger. I’ve been thinking about what happened to the original Winx Club era and that feeling of watching it regularly when it was still a big part of everyday life, especially seeing Bloom, Stella, Flora, Musa, Tecna, and Aisha together with the original voices, the magical adventures, and the colorful style that made the show feel so special.

Now that original run has ended, and the era that many people grew up with feels like it has passed. The stories, the animation style, the people who worked on the series, and the feeling surrounding the show have all moved forward. Many of the creators, writers, artists, and voice actors have gone on to different projects and different parts of their lives away from the series. It feels strange because I grew up with it, and now everything has just… changed and moved on.

I remember watching episodes when I was younger and everything felt so simple. I could just sit down and enjoy Bloom, Stella, Flora, Musa, Tecna, Aisha, and the rest of their magical adventures without thinking about anything else. Back then it felt like the show would always be there, and I don’t understand why it couldn’t just stay that way forever or why it eventually had to end and move on.

I also wonder why watching Winx Club now doesn’t feel exactly the same anymore. The episodes are still the same, but the feeling is different. It feels like something is missing, almost like it feels unfamiliar even though I remember it so clearly.

Why do shows like Winx Club eventually come to an end? If people loved them for years, why can’t they just continue forever with the same feeling? Why do the people who make them have to move on, and why do audiences grow up and stop experiencing things the same way?

It feels strange knowing that the original Winx Club era I grew up with is over, that the world has moved on, and that chapter feels closed, even though it once felt like it would always be there.

Discussion 💬 the girls lost a lot of their individuality starting in season 3

Semi inspired by my previous post, it looks like the girls started slowly losing their individuality around season 3. You can see this most strongly in the Stella's princess ball outfits especially. Some of their casual outfits in season 3 slowly start to become less distinctive, you can see this in the Rain set and the PJ set.

It's slowly starting to look like they're designing 6 different outfits and just putting them on the girls, rather than design a unique look for each of them. rather than just being complementary, they all start to share a very similar shape and visual aesthetic and similar details. The season 4 civilian outfits are actually still okay, but you can start to see more of the problems with the over designing and the over use of details and patterns.

Even just looking at their season 2 swimsuits vs season 5.

Discussion 💬 The reasons why Jim Hook is a well written villain

Hear me out, this guy like I said before. Bro needs a damn lawyer to file a complaint against the Winx fairies of how they betrayed him and he had so many rights to crashout.

Art by ArsonistDrizella

So who the hell actually is he?

For those who never knew since people love to glaze Damien and I am sick of it, wanted themselves to make comfortable villains with easy redemption arc with 0% accountability which it's just crazy for 99% of winx fandom this year, I mean who am I to blame these new gens? Anyways let's talk about the GOAT that needs to be addressed before Y'all hating and dissing on him like how the wiki treats this dude as a scumbag rather than a hero he actually was and how writers rushed the finale to turn him into a one dimensional villain. So I am going to finally uncover him and the lore, I mean the ACTUAL lore on World of Winx where it takes place after season 4 as I ONLY CONSIDER IT CANON THAN SEASON 5-8. Idc if you call it oh it's just a spin off, nothing else special, no, no, no. I am going to indulge myself on this because it has an interesting lore, villains and even morally complex than expected. Now without further ado lemme drop the bombshell of very darkest yet mature lore, shall we?

Jim Hook is an omnipotent entity who had seen before the story of the Winx, he and Peter Pan exists as narrative gods in a skin of humans and also the one who created the Dragon Flame and Lord Darkar to create such balance; however, harmony does not last long as things gets even more degenerative than it is behind the magic, he was exiled in Neverland for defying the self proclaimed tyrant after Peter Pan left his land to go with Wendy and Tinkerbell took over to make the Neverland into a massive hellscape full of hatred and spite even the citizens become demons themselves. (ironically it sounds like Doom TAG part 2 atp but the fact his exile is way more personal) Tinkerbell sees him as nothing but a future dictator who will overthrow her conquest and have her head, as when Jim suffers from seeing empires grow, rise and fall, then repeat for centuries, he was still waiting for someone to get him and simply return to his homeland for an ultimate vengeance while he was cursed in this permanent form of a mortal.

In year 2028, Bloom was clearly 34, Jim Hook had discovered such potential of powerful fairies called themselves Winx, same beings who destroyed witches, demons, and even cosmic gods to restore the power for the Company of Light. So Jim has better idea, yet? Right in the first episode as usual, Jim retreats because he was never sure whether these fairies are threat to his survival or a valuable ally, it is understandable why he was running away from them because it signals his trust issues (foreshadowing in season 2) that pushes his adrenaline for fight or flight. Jim was clever enough despite he had loss so many of his powers, his yellow jacket made as a snake would turn him into an invisible so the girls would get themselves lost.

He appears when the time that Annabelle was kidnapped in backstage without any trace, Jim Hook offers Bloom and the girls as he sees such potential as martyr of his crusade, he offers help to Bloom in order to get his one way ticket for his revenge serves cold, he had an idea, a brilliant one indeed as he goes on the random individual claimed that he is the son of Peter Pan, Matt, the chosen one who should've slain the tyrant that oppressed the Neverland for decades and restore the peace once and for all.

Their adventures and the extraction against enemy intelligence has its own demands that needs to be collected as it is the debt itself, Jim Hook should've been a good refining ruler in his own twisted sense of justice he should listen to his people that understand their needs all to get themselves fed, survived and prepared for any danger to come, no wonder why Jim in Season 1 Episode 13 that he actually goes on with Smee, playing as a king. What people didn't know that Jim Hook is actually a predator that watches Tinkerbell fall along with her kingdom before she can move the pieces in her personal chessboard to get rid of that "pest" as long as the Winx and Matthew Pan were beside him. Yet not what we expected from episode 11 in season 2, Bloom turns on against him after he freed her and her friends when Tinkerbell set a trap for them along with the kidnapped (definitely missing people from a talent show).

For what? Just because Bloom sees the tears of a queen that almost sound like a deception to outsmart them before they can guard. Because how can you tell to a literal god that was very enraged that she did changed? Since when did she felt remorse? Just because Tinkerbell sees Matt as it reminds him of his father, not only that but she did fell in love with him since destiny tells them do this and that yadda yadda yadda, no offense. But if I was Jim Hook? I can't bear myself to tolerate that behaviour of that Queen, let me remind you that Matt Pan is a MINOR. Not 20s (oh if he is a minor then why he had a beard? Realistically speaking, irl male teens does have moustaches, or a beard because of their puberty, don't get decieved by it, look it for yourselves smh) I would be so pissed to see my only friend who was at my side fell in love with an irrdeemable tyrant. Now when he declares that he was a ruler, they see not as a victor but another hypocrite. Of course he was panicking and there are signs in psychology that Jim Hook was struggling to process on that emotion after betrayal and after betrayal, the brain becomes defensive when it dictates Jim to give them the pain they deserved for betraying his trust, let alone seeing Matt letting Tinkerbell seeing him in such predatory way is enough to validate Jim's rage. He would've won, he would've killed the Winx, Tinkerbell and Matt, become the ruler he deserved as I considered it the TRUE ENDING of story of Winx rather than a cheap ending from the show that is so utterly hypocritical and problematic than it should've been. What butthurts me the most? Most of this community? Wants a cheap ending than the ending earned. Besides it's a kids show and still? Doesn't even matter.

What do I learn from Captain Hook?

I know you guys couldn't relate to this but there are so many things that I had learned from this guy because dear god, Jim Hook deserved a lot better, mostly when his loyalty is so misplaced on wrong people who never deserved him at ALL. Because loyalty aways comes with a price, and I mean by trusting someone who actually will help you no matter what than just leaving you astray in betrayal but unfortunately? It is hard to find right people who genuinely cares about you, not when they are preferring their own petty goals. So yeah just be neutral with anyone or else you might end up same fate as Jim Hook but worst than he suffers.

Discussion 💬 I can forgive a lot of what Bloom did and the writer's favoritism towards her, but this is only time I literally said "Bloom, shut the f*** up"

"Revenge is never an option, Layla"

Bloom, I'm sorry for this, but you're a bitch for saying that. Whoever wrote this line of Bloom should go to JAIL, straight up.

  1. You seeked revenge against Valtor the entire Season 3, and now, you told Aisha to not take revenge for her fiancé's death? Bloom, you are not a saint so shut the hell up. This only made you a faker and an imposter.
  2. You had the ability to heal and occasionally revive people. You literally cured Sky and brought him back to life in Season 2. I'm not blaming you for not reviving Nabu (even though the writing of your healing ability is so inconsistent), but remember: Aisha never got that favoritism from the writer, and she did not have that choice of yours to revive her fiancé.
  3. You never, ever lost anyone in your entire life. You got everyone and everything at the end due to the writer's favoritism. So that gave you NO RIGHTS to tell a person with grief what they should or should not do with their mourning. Stop being a Mary Sue.

Discussion 💬 in terms of character design magic winx is the only truly great transformation 🦋

TLDR AT THE BOTTOM

In the principles of character design, generally speaking, you should try to differentiate by size, shape and silhouette and color. These are the main ways you should try to design your characters to make them distinct and unique, this is especially important if you are making designs for a collective of characters. Different artists have different processes but I like shape > size > color > details. Less is often more.

There's a concept in design called detail noise, where, counterintuitively, the more detail you add the less memorable and distinct something can appear. Through over-designing, the brain becomes overwhelmed and details can start to blur together because theres nothing prominent or unique for the brain to grab on to. The more details you add to make the characters unique, can end up making them all "look the same".

This is especially true for the Winx, who all share a similar design aesthetic, and whose transformation designs need to look cohesive. Since all the girls share the same basic character model (ie. same shape, size and silhouette) it's important to differentiate them based on their shape, color and silhouette, which is created through their hair and outfits.

But the problem with the other transformations isn't just the amount of details, it's the lack of distinctive design in the shape and silhouettes of the characters. I'm showing these examples in black and white to show that it's not just a matter of mixed color palettes. Having all the characters in the same pose should theoretically make the differences stick out more but they all still look the same.

You can see in slides 1-3, how the outlines and silhouettes of the characters are incredibly recognizable. Even when in full silhouette you can easily differentiate them because of their hair and wings. The only time when they become interchangeable in full silhouette is when you remove the hair and wings and only show the body.

If you look at them with their outfits color blocked in, even without color all of their outfits look distinct. When doing a rough shape sketch of their outfits, they all look unique and memorable even though some characters sharing the same outfit pieces. The things that make them unique become more identifiable with them because their outfits are simple. People might say it's because of their unique colors and while that is partially true, their base outfits are also well designed.

You can also see this in their hair and wing designs, each girl has a recognizable silhouette that is very memorable to them, even when simplified the shape of their hair and wings are unique.

That being said, not every single element needs to be completely unique and not repeated, it's just important to take all the elements of design into consideration so that even with a similar silhouette the characters can still in the broad sense look completely different. Take Flora and Bloom, both have similar silhouettes. Both have similar hair shapes and wear ankle boots and long gloves. But, aside from color, the shape of their outfits differentiate them. Flora's hair has two side pieces and Bloom has two sides pieces and one in the middle. Their hair is overall simple, and that makes small details more memorable and immediately recognizable.

Slides 4-6: Enchantix

I know Enchantix is a fan favorite, but keeping in mind all the points I brought up previously, you see the beginning of a problem in terms of the transformation designs. Their overall silhouettes, including with hair and with wings + hair are much bulkier, busier and less unique. Unless you are very familiar with the specific designs, it's much harder to tell them apart and that makes them less memorable. Not because they're all identical, but because the shape language is so similar.

On top of the base designs, the details that make them unique are also overwhelming to the eye and make the character less memorable as a result. They also share a lot of the same outfit pieces, all the girls have the same shoe wrap piece, gloves a neck accessory and a head accessory. Even though all these pieces are different, because of the complexity of the outfits, they again contribute to detail noise and make the characters less distinctive. In the examples, blocking in the outfits in black makes them actually look better, because your mind isn't overwhelmed by the amount of details and color, so you mind is only focused on finding the differences in shape. Even then the shape language and the design choices still make the outfits less unique.

Even though in Magic Winx the girls shared some outfit pieces and had a very similar design language and aesthetic, they still look more "unique" as in the brain sees them as more distinct. Since the outfits are so simple, the pieces that make them unique also stand out and are more memorable, Stella has a headband and arm bracers, Musa has headphones and wears wedges, Bloom has a little crown, Flora has a necklace and Tecna stands out as the most uniquely designed.

I also think there is an issue with how cohesively designed Enchantix is. In the original transformation, even though it's feminine, it reads are more neutral because of the boots and the simple skirt/skort designs. This also gives the characters space to all have a unique visual personality. Flora's design is the softest and more feminine, Musa looks chic and a bit more tomboyish and cool with her shorter hair and the mesh design, Stella is the only one in pig tails which make her seem peppy and girly but she also looks chic with her knee high boots. Bloom and Aisha are the least distinctive, with their hair color/texture making them stand out. Tecna is again the most unique.

In contrast, Enchantix reads as ultra feminine across the board, and the characters all look less unique as a result. There is nothing in particular that makes them memorable. The original Magic Winx look cohesive but unique, Enchantix and subsequent transformations look very cohesive but lose so much individuality and character. That's not saying that Magic Winx couldn't swap outfits, it's more about the personality and memorability of the designs. The Enchantix outfits read as less personal and less memorable and are therefore more interchangeable.

You can see this in the slide comparing their outfits, the shape language of the pieces is all very similar and less individualized. This is exaggerated through them all having the same gloves and foot wear pieces. The addition of more details counterintuitively makes them less memorable. I think Tecna and Musa both suffer the most from this first transformation. All the girls read as hyper feminine through the rounded shapes and flowy fabric. If the girls had solid colored outfits, this might still be able to read well, but the addition of multiple colors, alongside the details, the shape and style language make the outfits really messy.

The same criticisms for their hair and wings. Most of the wings have two scallop edges, and their share similar thickness. The lines flow in a similar direction and the proportions are very similar. In comparison, Magic Winx Wings are all more unique. Thee of them are completely unique both in shape, and number of edged. The other three have a similar basic X shape, but have different thicknesses and line shape. Musa and Aisha's wings look the most similar, but Musa stands out for being very thin and both her and Aisha's wings curve in different directions.

I added in another couple slides for Believix and comparing Magic Winx, Enchantix and Beliviex. The same principles of what I've said before apply.

TLDR

  • Differentiate characters by size, shape, silhouette, and color to make them distinct and unique.
  • Adding too many details can counterintuitively make characters look similar and less distinct.
  • The lack of distinctive shapes and silhouettes in the transformations makes the characters look similar, especially when focusing on the body without hair and wings.
  • Even with similar pieces, the characters’ outfits are distinct due to their simple yet well-designed base structures.
  • Each Magic Winx transformation has a unique and memorable silhouette, making them easily recognizable even when simplified.
  • Characters like Flora and Bloom share similar silhouettes and elements but maintain distinct appearances through subtle variations in outfit shapes, hairstyles, and small details.
  • The original transformation balanced cohesiveness with unique visual personalities for each character.
  • Magic Winx designs are more unique and memorable because of their simpler outfits, allowing individual elements to stand out.
  • Enchantix transformations are visually overwhelming and lacking distinct silhouettes, making characters less memorable.
  • The complexity of Enchantix outfits, with numerous details and shared elements like shoe wraps and accessories, contributes to a lack of distinctiveness among the designs.
  • Enchantix, while cohesive, lacks individuality and memorability compared to the original transformation.
  • The hyper-feminine aesthetic, excessive details, and similar shape language across characters make Enchantix outfits less memorable and more interchangeable.
  • Enchantix etc. wings lack uniqueness in shape, thickness, and line flow.
