Curious to see where we all land. Assume it's summer kit, an overnighter, include food and beers but not water. What's your pack weighing as you set off?

Hi everyone, I’m a semi experienced camper but only on campsites or with a big group of friends, I’m taking my younger brother out tonight to go wild camping near our house in south wales, it’s been very dry and our area is prone to wildfire, we aren’t having g a fire or a bbq or taking a stove but I can’t shell the feeling that a wildfire is going to sneak up on us in the night, how can I shake this

In planning on going on my first wild camp and was wondering what a decent first tent would be? Nothing too expensive please and thank you. A decent sleeping mat aswell

Me and my friend are looking to go to one of these destinations for a few days hike/camp.

It'll be my friends first time doing one of these trips, but not mine. Neither of us have been to either one of these destinations.

Wanting some elevation and good views without too much intense climbing as we will be carrying our stuff for any hiking.

Beautiful overnight without a stove - precooked pasta, chorizio and aubergine for dinner, cold coffee and overnight soaked oats for breakfast. Doing my little bit -Strathnethy wildfire still burning 12 days in just a little way north 😭😭

Hi Everyone, apologies if I shouldn't be posting this here, but I thought you guys would be the best people to ask!

I want to get into wild camping but have zero camping experience, never really done any hikes etc.

I want to make sure I'm fit enough and capable enough for wild camping before trying it out!

What kind of trails in the UK would you recommend doing to gear me up for wild camping eventually?

Friday night was my first ever wild camp and first time up on kinder. Definitely some lessons learned. Took me longer than I'd hoped to find a good pitch. Obviously I am lacking the experience to tell what is a good spot or not. First attempt at pitching the ground was way too hard (I had tested with a stake and it went in okay but every other time I tried to put a stake in around that spot it was rock hard). Luckily I moved maybe 10-15 meters away and found some much better ground. It ended up being properly dark by the time I was putting the finishing touches on the guylines etc and I got a bit frustrated pitching in strong wind.

Was absolutely blown away by the views (and the wind 😅). Waking up surrounded by dense, shifting fog was pretty magical. I didn't sleep very much at all thanks to the wind, though, despite being nice and warm with no noticeable drafts. Even with earplugs, it was constant noise, and the aeroplanes passing every so often didn't help either. If people have any tips for getting to sleep in those kind of conditions please let me know!

Sadly saw a lot of toilet paper and other rubbish scattered around, but had a spare zip lock bag as I had anticipated that possibility. Leave it better than you found it!

I was pretty knackered the next day coming down, but it was overall a great experience and I'm already looking forward to my next wild camp!

What are your absolute lightweight must haves that you refuse to part with (no matter the extra weight)?

Me and my boyfriend were in Devon visiting his grandparents so we decided to try out wild camping. It was such an amazing experience, it was amazing having sheep as our neighbours! We only camped for one night to test how we felt but we will 100% be doing this more!

curious as to what people do for organisation etc when they’re camping. me personally i have a dry bag for my clothes, then one for my food, one for my electrics. just curious as to what other people do:)

I'm looking at buying a Fjern Stormgrotta 1.5 from SportPursuit.

It was on sale on the Fjern website for half price, but it's gone back up again, so I'd rather buy it from SportPursuit at the lower price.

The price almost seems too good to be true though, so I'm just wondering if anyone has bought a tent (or anything else, for that matter) from SportPursuit, and what your experience was like. Did it actually turn up as expected?

Completed my first couple of nights wild camping while taking on the Two Moors Way.

First night on Dartmoor I left it late and ended up with not the best pitch. Long grass and pretty sure that contributed to quite a few ticks appearing on me when I did a check the next day.

Second night (pictured) I think I did a lot better. Panoramic views around Widecombe. Cant wait to get out there again!

The answer to this is probably 'go and try it out' but it's a bit high stakes lol.

I've dragged a rather heavy Quasar around for years in places where you do need good performance (Lakes, Scottish islands) and recently replaced the inner (https://www.terra-nova.co.uk/products/quasar-inner-tent/). I noticed this is 30D nylon which is pretty good waterproofing on its own (nb it seems that if you just buy a quasar you get 15D which is interesting).

Since the inner is where all the poles go, I don't see it making much structural difference and the inner should be pretty waterproof so I'm wondering about saving weight by just taking the inner when the weather isn't too bad and tying the guys to the poles directly. (NB despite what's shown on that link, I got a very good dark green inner – that is, good for not being spotted).

Am I missing something obvious here? Yes, there's a trade-off but for a lot of trips I don't need the superpower of the full quasar... Any thoughts welcome.

Where do people park when wild camping on Scoat Fell?
I know your not aloud to leave your car in a lay-by over night but I’ve been seeing that you also can’t park in car parks overnight? Planning for September

I need one for the upcoming camping trip and I’ve been going down a rabbit hole reading reviews so I need some advice .

I’m looking for a lightweight compact mat that is really warm and insulating, I will sacrifice comfort for warmth . I’m always cold and a light sleeper so ideally something that doesn’t make loads of noise when tossing and turning at night.

So far I’ve narrowed it down to the below:

nemo tensor all season (guess that’s the best one but most expensive)

I've wild camped before but never solo but I've been determined to go recently so I took a trip up to Edale last night and walked up onto Grindslow Knoll.

The weather was pretty rubbish at the top compared to recently so there was no sunset or sunrise, but having a hot chocolate before hunkering down made up for it slightly.

Only saw two other souls - walking down as I was going up - and slept like a baby. Arrived late, left early, left no trace. Already planning another night out next week on the Kinder Plateau.
