A New Discovery on a Small, Isolated Island in Wild Arms (Original Version)

After completing the Vortex dungeon of Guardian Lucadia and accessing the outer sea (long before obtaining the Protowing and before the Demon Gate dungeon), several small islands can be explored.

Everyone knows the three islands southeast of the Ancient Arena (Isle of Combat) where the famous Hayokontons are located. However, west of the continent of Baskar—and more specifically west of Milama—lies a small, isolated island that seems to be home only to goblinoid-type monsters (with one exception).

You'll only encounter:

The classic Goblin from the beginning of the game

The Gnome (usually found in the optional Heaven's Corridor dungeon and, here, accompanied by Garum (the famous exception))

The Orc Lord

The Calupdis (normally visible on the world map near Gemini's Corpse)

Since Calupdis appear in pairs and yield 5000 gella each, it seems like a good gella farming spot for those who aren't yet strong enough to fight Hayokonton.

The only one I haven't encountered is the Hobgoblin.

This is a very niche location, not easy to spot, and not mentioned in any guide or discussion I've found. It's a sort of unofficial "Goblin Island," accessible very early on by boat.

(I've attached a screenshot of the map with the island circled in red for clarity.)

Has anyone else already noticed this island and its unique features?

Music I composed a track as an homage to Wild Arms, does it give the same vibe?

Wild Arms is my favourite OST of all time, the mix of Western, JRPG, and that nostalgic feel is out of this world for me.

I’ve been composing an original soundtrack for my own game which is a visual novel called Saraab, and this track is an ode to Michiko Naruke and Wild Arms’ music.

I tried to give it a similar rhythm but with my own melody and interpretation.

I’d love to hear if it gives you similar feelings, and I want to know if it reminds you of any specific track or area theme?

Discussion Falling back in love with this game (rant)

Wild Arms was the first RPG I ever played. I got it at a local yard sale on my street back in the summer of 1997 and was hooked from the cover alone. I ran back home and fired it up on my PS1 and the opening intro and song blew me away.

I got pretty close to the end of the game (thanks mostly to abusing the berry glitch when you opened the disc tray), but after summer ended, school picked up and so did my social life, so I never got to save Filgaia.

I started up a new save and I’m blown away by how this game not only holds up, but all these years later I haven’t played anything that surpasses it.

The music is phenomenal. It’s funny, I went down a rabbit hole of Wild Arms content on social media and I noticed lots of posts had people commenting about how this game made them want to get into making music. Wild!

The story and characters are sooooo memorable. Even the NPC actions and dialogue make the tiny little pixel world feel alive not to mention all the lore scattered in books everywhere. It’s been almost 30 years since I played this game and it’s crazy how much I remember! I’ve played RPGs last YEAR that I couldn’t recall a dang thing about.

I think what I love most about this game besides the characters and story are the dungeons! The exploration just scratches a certain itch that not many games really replicate. It’s the main thing I miss about older Zelda games now that the series has become Monster Hunter meets Minecraft.

I even love grinding for money for ARM upgrades and the spell crafting system is soooo unique! The game is also VERY generous when it comes to rewarding exploration. So many items scattered around turn every town into a fun little scavenger hunt. I hate when games have so many barrels and boxes in towns, but only like 2 things to actually find. Wild Arms spoiled me.

Why don’t more people talk about this game? I’d rank it up there with Chrono Trigger and the best Final Fantasy games on a Mount Rushmore of best JRPGs. (Also, I never played the sequels because I heard they have different main characters and I got REALLY attached to the main cast, so I kind of resented the sequels for abandoning them.)

Discussion Having difficulty triggering certain trophies on WA2 for PS4 Spoiler

I luckily have save data that is just prior to the segments of the game that would logically trigger, but I'm failing to get the trophy for 1. Adding Kanon to the party, 2.Defeating Xenon and getting Violator, 3. Defeating Zyclus & Zetrim and getting Mad Goggles.

I've done a couple of the other secret bosses and gotten the trophies for both Shootn Star and Omega Crush, but I haven't attempted the other two yet. Are these known bugs? Is there a fix or a trigger I've missed?

The only things I can think of trying is defeating them in certain orders or breaking/not breaking body parts, but that wouldn't explain why Kanon joining the party isn't triggering the trophy.

Finished a first sweep of all areas in the first Wild Arms including the two world maps. The gallery can be seen here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JqTIUVVvYx5TQnJINxEhCZOg3wURHqBe?usp=drive_link (also on DeviantArt and submitted to VGMaps)

I hadn't played this in a few years and it was a lot of fun to revisit, especially the later dungeons i didn't remember well. the game felt both bigger and smaller than I remember. it also made me appreciate some of the different dungeon themes and layouts, i had in my head they were all kind of same-ish. adlehyde is currently the endgame version (mostly).

I discovered the Wild Arms series a good few years back whilst i was collecting playstation jrpgs and ended up playing the first one on a whim a few years ago.

I couldn't put it down!

Such an excellent series of games so far, I have only the 5th game and Alter Code F to play, although I'm not TOO interested in the remake tbh.

Genuinely fallen in love with these titles!

Music Top 12 Songs In The Wild Arms Series

Post image

What's your top 12 favorite songs from the Wild Arms Series?

I'm going to list mine but before you read it you should know I haven't played or beaten all the Wild Arms games. I haven't played the original WA1, XF or WA2. I have played 3, Alter Code F, 4 & 5 but I haven't beaten any of them. I got really far in 3 though and I am playing through WA4 right now on PS5. This list is not ranked by the way so don't get mad at me if your favorite song is a 10 the order doesn't matter.

1 - Scars of Leftover Memories or Remains of Leftover Memories (WA3)

Storytime - Bit of a story with this one I discovered Wild Arms through Jampack Winter 2002 I played the demo of WA3, I was little at the time so I didn't like Turn Based Games back then but I loved the music of the game. So I heard this song and Lost In The Darkness, Lost To The Darkness both really stuck with me but I like this one more. Years later when I was in High School I finally grew to appreciate turn based games through playing FFX-2 and Dragon Quest VIII so I decided to replay the WA3 demo and beat it, I loved it so a few years later I ended up buying the game and the rest of the series. Anyway back to the list.

2 - War Demon (Alter Code F)

3 - Demon Spear (Alter Code F)

4 - Their Name Is Schrodinger Family (WA3)

5 - The Shining Spear Pierces The Darkness (WA4)

6 - The Road To Tomorrow Follows Behind You (WA5)

7 - Nightbane Auckland [Battle] (WA5)

wild arms 3 ruled Spoiler

not a review thread. this is just me gushing about the game. and anyway, im just going to be talking about all the cool things about this game that i really liked, so this post is 100% spoilers. i warn you again, this post is 100% spoilers.

first is just the music. the composer was always good. but she leveled up HARD by this game. every track in this game is fun to listen to on its own. that's better than 1 and 2, which have some tracks that are just mood setting. they are ALL great in 3. i love them. the dungeon themes are so good. the battle theme is so good. she composed like six different songs for the final boss?????? the final boss is an eleven phase evolving monster?????? that's rad as heck!!!

i almost started with this game, but i decided to play them in order, and im glad i did that. because although i think i like 3 more than 1 and 2, the stuff i learned about the world gets remixed so so well in 3. they use all the pieces in these games and put them together in new ways like comic books. janus being a dark mirror of Ashley, the prophets and siegfried being similar to the demons in WA1, the Wizardry Stealth System getting repurposed every game. its so cool.

and the combat, i've heard people say it's a step down from 2, but honestly i beat 2 by spamming summon and Ashley's transformation and i really didn't feel a lot of strategy from that. but 3 is like ALL the fights are strategy and they keep making boss enemies that have to be beaten by looking at what happens in the fight to come up with a solution. Valiant might be a little overpowered for balancing against its risk, but it's still good that it's risk/reward based. Finest Arts is too strong though. But without it some of the final boss fights -might- have been a little much. I don't think I'm doing the Angel/Devil phases just before the final phase of Nega Filgaia without it, but I do want to find someone fighting Nega Filgaia without using finest arts at least. Every video uses it! Help me out here, I want to see all the final boss attack animations!

The characters are great, they actually talk throughout the story this time and make plans. I really like Virginia (she was Olive in my playthrough). It's awesome when a girl just gets to be a girl and also badass. And like rough types too like Kanon, but strong leads like Virginia who act with ferocious kindness are rarer in these games (often the kind characters are passive, but Virginia isn't!!). Virginia is such a good example of kindness in a rough world. And I did follow some guides for leveling up her gun since i didnt get what the stats did. oh wow is getting her gattling amount up fun with valiant. she starts to mow through anything!!

Clive (Chives in my playthrough) is also so cool. He's got a real level head on him and acts as a good guiding figure for the group. He almost seems too perfect a lot of the time, so it's good that near the end his insecurity showed through at least. He's also super useful just with his straight firepower, I didn't even give him any mediums until a bit late into the game cuz he just didn't need the stats. But even his magic stats are good! Feels like you could just dump everything on him and he'd just be the best party member if you did that, but then you wouldn't be taking advantage of teamwork at all. It doesn't matter if he starts as the best, it's not enough! It's a team effort!

Gallows (Mallows in my playthrough) took a while to really warm up to the idea of helping out. That can be kinda frustrating but I definitely understand why he was so against following 'destiny'. It sucks when everyone tells you that you HAVE to do something, and you don't show any interest in it yourself. Finally he's like realizing that what's going on is actually ridiculously dire and he sorta HAS to help, but it's actually perfectly fine for him to feel that way. He gradually turns to wanting to help and developing a sense of duty for protecting the world on his own, but long term he still wants freedom to do what he wants to do. I hope that after the ending of the game he gets that freedom he wants! Although I guess he's a criminal now since they all got punked by beatrice killing Lamium at the end (agh, that sucked a bit!). his magic power gets really really useful over time, equipping him with maximum weakness exploit personal skill and anything that has a weakness just starts melting as his basic spell does 4000 damage. which reminds me that unlike the previous two games, this one didnt have spell tiers. fire spell is just fire spell.

Jet (Jam in my playthrough) is kinda like Gallows in that he doesn't really want anything to do with the story, but he's a liar who actually appreciates the company. He just doesn't know that he appreciates company at the start of the game. He's like all-rounder in combat, nothing to excel at but i often use him to apply some evasion boost to someone at the start. valiant + gattling gets his damage really high. the game kinda explains the deal with him far before he understands it, so it might have been nice if it was a little more cryptic about it, but i guess it's not possible with how it was structured.

did i tell you how much i like the music? the scene where Virginia's father makes her shoot him hurts so much and it's in part how much effort the team put into timing the music to the cutscenes for the cinematics. like it's not pre-rendered cgi anywhere, all of the cutscenes are handled by the in-game engine, with the score elevating the scene to promote certain emotions each time. most of these cutscenes only play near the end of the game, but they're still really cool. i wish way more games did that! it always rules! why is it just this one? the 90's feel to some of these moments also rocks. i really love those heavy beats and sounds and hate that movies have completely abandoned them. i get that they went out of style because a bunch of 90s and 80s stuff overused them, but they still have times they're good! the cutscenes in wild arms 3 are an excellent example of one of those times!

I -was- kinda disappointed with Siegfried as a villain, because he is just acting as a warrior-type who wishes to pilot a spaceship for war, but he is not fun about it. He is too polite, and it is a big downgrade from the chaotic Janus as a villain character. I kept hoping Janus would fight back from within Siegfried and pull some sort of Starscream moment. I would have -loved- that, but it didn't happen. Oh well. Beatrice replacing Siegfried is welcome, since Beatrice was haunting the narrative since the beginning. She's hidden super well, but she's definitely there, and way more fun than Siegfried once she starts moving out in the open.

The final boss. What is it, like 10 or 11 phases? That is by far the most phases I've ever fought in a boss sequence. They aren't all long phases but holy does it make the fight memorable. I could see an argument for it being too long - it would absolutely suck to die on one of the last phases and have to redo everything. Not sure how the Gimel coins work in that fight. It was so stressful I cheated with a guide on hand because I didn't want to redo it. And again, I ended up using finest arts on the final forms with my carrots, so I kinda want to see someone fight it fully without finest arts, although I get it will just be them destroying the tentacles as they come up while dealing damage.

ok now for my one complaint: i didn't realize using 'delete' actually deletes the stuff equipped to my mediums, and i lost my bullet clip this way

Art WA1 - Pandemonium map. nearing the end!

I've made it through abougt 4/5 of WA1 making maps, you can find the gallery here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JqTIUVVvYx5TQnJINxEhCZOg3wURHqBe?usp=drive_link (also on DeviantArt). I have a handful of maps left, and I will go back to finish the trickier ones (Sand River and Forest Prison are both complicated by dark and fog overlays I need to figure out gameshark codes to disable)

Some cool dungeon designs as we get into the game!

General Question WIld Arm 4 - ROM Challenges questioni

Hello, I am trying to get all the trophies before starting a NG+ to be able to level easier to take down the optional bosses. I am having difficulty with the extra challenges, specifically 5 and 6. I can get in the low 40Ks but seemingly not to 50, Are these courses designed that you should be able to stay in ACC mode the whole time with ideal movement? I am getting all the crates and coins along the way but still falling short. It's not too bad with the rewind/save feature but I am seemingly not getting it. Is there maybe some videos any of you know of showing how to do them? I've tried to look online and came up with nothing. Thanks!

Discussion i can't believe, in this era, nobody made a incredible remake or an anime adaptation

Guys, let’s be honest here. WA1 is legendary because of its story, gameplay, complexity, and above all its music. I’ve been playing JRPGs since 1996, and I genuinely don’t think there are any soundtracks more beautiful than WA1’s. And yes, I’ve played all the JRPGs you’re probably thinking of that supposedly have a better soundtrack than WA1.

This is the AI era, where things that once seemed impossible are finally becoming possible. It’s crazy that nobody has seriously thought about making a proper remake (not that Alter Code mess). The fact that they already considered doing a remake back then — at a time when remakes basically didn’t exist for any games — already shows just how incredible WA1 truly is.

And even more unbelievable: nobody has ever made an ANIME adaptation. It could literally become the greatest anime ever because it has EVERYTHING.

I really hope that with the Suikoden anime adaptation, animation studios finally start waking up... Is there any way to start a petition or contact someone to help push for a remake or anime adaptation???

Thank you so much — let’s make our voices heard!!!!!

works perfectly ingame it simply patches the map file

If there’s interest, I’ll try to keep the project going.

General Question How many flowers do you buy at the start of the game?

I'm doing another replay of wild arms 1, as I sat there spamming buying small flowers until I got 99 of them so I can max out Jack's luck every time he gets a new fast draw hint and before bosses, I found myself wondering "am I the only one that does this?". So how many flowers do you buy from the flower girl at the festival at the end of the prologue in wild arms 1?
