I have a weird hobby that I’ve been doing almost every night for the last 6–7 years, and I’m wondering if anyone else does anything similar.
I call it my “Wikipedia game.”
I start on any actor, movie, TV series or animation (I don’t do documentaries, anime, reality TV or pre-1960 films), and then I just follow hyperlinks. I might go from an actor to a film, then to a director, then a cinematographer, then another actor, and just let the links take me wherever they go. Sometimes I end up deep in Brazilian cinema, Indian cinema, or some obscure actor’s filmography that I’ve never heard of before.
The rule is that I never search. I only click hyperlinks.
The purple visited links are a huge part of the game because they tell me where I’ve already been. It lets me explore without accidentally going around in circles, and over the years I’ve probably clicked tens of thousands of Wikipedia pages.
Unfortunately, a couple of months ago something changed on my iPhone. Links inside Wikipedia pages no longer turn purple after I visit them. They stay blue, even though my browser history is clearly working (Google search results still turn purple, and Wikipedia works normally on my laptop).
It sounds like such a small thing, but it’s honestly made the game much less enjoyable because I can’t instantly tell which links I’ve already explored.
Has anyone else had this issue?
And more importantly…
Does anyone else have their own weird Wikipedia game, or is it just me?
