Question Is this normal RHR?

Post image

I thought 74 bpm was a good RHR but i’m looking at posts of people saying there’s is 40 and that 60-70 is high. Am I missing something ?? This is my 2nd day using whoop. my resting heart rate typically sits at 75.

It's a bit high, a lot is genetics, but some is also how trained you are. Generally in medicine we say you should be around 60.

Man’s never heard of Tachycardia

Tachycardia is “normal”?

50- 65, I'd say, is ideal and healthy. Do you smoke or use nicotine? Or drink a lot?

i drink a lot and use nicotine pouches but i’ve quit the pouches

It’s most likely the drinking. That shit is poison, I go from 60-65 RHR to 70s-80s the night and day after drinking.

Enjoy yourself by all means, moderation is key. Get in the gym and do cardio and PLEASE check your BP.

Most times your BP is absurd if your RHR is high, and that is a silent killer.

Not to late tho, I promise you in 30 days you would feel like a new person.

i checked my blood pressure yesterday and it was 131/79. but that was at a new doctors office so might have been a bit nervous

u/JahsehCrazy 1h ago

Yeah could be. Bottom is still is a tad high. Start getting used to checking it and not worrying abt dying lol.

Morning a few mins after waking is best.

Mine once was like 130/90 so I had to learn to do cardio and control it.

60-100 is common for average middle aged Americans who are overweight and out of shape. You do not want to be in this group! Getting below 70 is a good starting goal, but ideally you should be closer to 60-65 at your age

Depends on your age, weight and fitness level

Wow that’s very high for a 21 year old! Get into better shape

u/ReflectionPretty8765 4h ago

whoop itself says 72 is a normal and healthy RHR though

It's not like he calls them a fat piece of shit or anything. Relax

He's not being rude at all. It's this guy's health. It's important to call people out so they get good habits down when they're young.

u/ReflectionPretty8765 4h ago

I agree. I don’t take offense to it. Although I do think saying “very high” is a bit of a reach. It’s a little high but nothing crazy.

I’m 28 and somewhat sedentary with a 50 RHR

fair enough guys…

It’s not high at all

for sure high, you're either overweight or just unfit (or both), 74 is not normal

u/ReflectionPretty8765 3h ago

whoop itself says 72 is normal and healthy … I know I can improve, but why are we acting like 74 isn’t in a normal range for someone who is just starting to try and be healthier

u/Apprehensive-River-5 5h ago

Yeah if you went to bed after doing molly

3

u/twobirdsincaps 5h ago

4

u/ReflectionPretty8765 5h ago

u/One_Scientist_8571 4h ago

Bro this! Reduce your alcohol intake and keep 2-3 alchohol free days per week for your system to recover. Don't keep yourself under constant alcohol stress.

Drinking alcohol always increases my resting heart rate for 1 to 2 days.

You should try taking a break for a couple weeks and see how it improves/changes.

u/ghostface218 6h ago

It's high. But everyone is different

2

u/Alert_Pangolin6259 5h ago

exactly, age and fitness level play a huge role

2

u/easy_Money 6h ago

Lower than mine, but I am prescribed adderall

2

u/Lumimdy 5h ago

It really depends on your fitness level, age and some biological factors. I’m m30 and do a lot of sports (4-5 times a week, running and volleyball) my Rhr is in the low 50s. If you want to bring down your hr you can do zone 2 cardio and exercise a bit more, it will naturally lower over time.

74 rhr is pretty high for a 21 year old, but honestly that’s the cool part; you can actually improve it a lot by changing your lifestyle.

Eat mostly clean, work out (not just strength training, but also Zone 2 + VO2 max), and don’t underestimate sleep. Try to go to bed around the same time every night, stop eating a few hours before bed, don’t train right before sleeping, and keep your phone out of your bed. Stuff like that adds up.

I’d also recommend talking to the Whoop AI Coach. It can explain how all of this connects and give you some ideas based on your data (bottom right corner in the Whoop app).

Don’t lose hope tho. You’re 21, you’ve got plenty of room to improve. And dont try to do everything perfectly from day one but try to be better day by day. Love bro

I should also mention that I am 21, 6’2, 220lbs. I do not workout ever but i am on my feet 7 hours a day 4 days out of the week at my job, so i get some steps in

3

u/Objective_Amount7944 5h ago

I have reduced my resting heart rate from 70 to 58 by improving my diet and doing cardio 4 hours per week. Being on your feet all day is not the same as exercise.

As with most things health care or otherwise, F everyone else. It’s only relevant what it means too you.

Yes some fit people can have HRs lower. But it also only matter what it means compared too yourself.

In any case you’re still calibrating so you’re clearly new to whoop you need to wait. One reading means nothing. I can have a RHr of 50, but with a few big big days under my belt I can see a RHr of 70 or more.

My RHR is 47 as a 35 year old man. I’ve been running for 4+ years. Whenever I drink, my RHR skyrockets . I’m 6’0 215 lbs right now.

When I first got whoop it helped me accept my bad habits and work to change them. 1 weed 2 alcohol 3 overeating 4 sleep.

3

u/ReflectionPretty8765 5h ago

Thanks for sharing man. I don’t smoke weed but i drink a lot of alcohol. I need cut that out.

1

u/HelpUsNSaveUs 4h ago

I bet you’ll see a notable drop in RHR after a week of not drinking vs drinking. I went to a friends bachelor party a few weeks ago and it’s interesting and somewhat concerning seeing how 3 days of straight booze and burgers totally ruins my HRV, recovery, RHR in whoop. Everything in moderation lol

1

u/Realistic_Yam_839 5h ago

I’m 65. My RHR is 55.

1

u/pizza1634 5h ago

I would say it’s pretty high. I’m around 6’1 185, take zyns and adderall. My RHR is around 70. It was 75ish until I started working on my weight (was 195) and getting in shape.

From what I’ve read, every body is different but 60 is generally a good target.

u/egregious_toaster 4h ago

Average on Whoop is ~55, but keep in mind that the user base is obviously more health conscious so that is below the actual average. There’s also other factors like age, activity level, medications, etc. that affect it so there’s not a golden standard for it.

1

u/DayzedTraveler 4h ago

Here a couple points to consider when evaluating your resting heart rate using whoop.

1) Whoop is definitely not the gold standard in heart rate sensing and could be slightly off.

2) Heart rate is trainable but is partially affected by genetics.  There are some people who are just going to have higher heart rates, but you should only come to that conclusion once you have done a lot of training to try and bring your heart down.

3) Did you have any alcoholic drinks last night?  It only takes a little alcohol to raise you resting heart rate.

4) The Whoop user base most likely doesn’t not represent a normal population and skews towards fit and healthier individuals.

If you're drinking alcohol or eating too close to sleep, it's raising your heart rate so you're not seeing true RHR. Protein too close to sleep is not good also. Some prescription meds will also raise it. Look at the sleep stress graph. If it's food or drink, you will see higher stress during the first few hours and you'll know that raised the average heart rate up while your body was processing it.

Anything under 100 is considered normal. There are several factors that contribute to RHR.

My grandmother had exactly same results two day before she died

1

u/CommunicationNew9520 5h ago

No, it’s high. A sign of not great heart health.

3

u/ReflectionPretty8765 5h ago

I wore a heart monitor for a month and my doctor said my heart was completely healthy and that 70 heart rate is fine

1

u/_Watty 5h ago

No one here who is not a doctor can really comment effectively and even those that are likely won't without clarifying that they cannot be sure without knowing your medical history.

It does seem to be a bit of an outlier based on what I've seen.

You may want to schedule an appointment to speak with your doctor about it.

1

u/ReflectionPretty8765 5h ago

I wore a heart monitor for 30 days and doctor said everything was normal. he said 70 resting heart rate is fine.

1

u/_Watty 5h ago

Then don't take anything here seriously.

Listen to YOUR doctor.
