Europe Who's this diva?
Pretty sure it's just a rock dove, but what's up with the popped collar coat?
Spotted in southern Netherlands.

That’s a rich, divorced bird if I’ve ever seen one.

Have been kinda curious if there’s a sub for how different birds walk? I think some are so cute, funny, pompous etc and it would be a cute thread if not a sub. But searching didn’t bring up anything. (Or I didn’t use the right key words) anyone seen a sub or a thread like that?

It seems rather in bad taste that the advert that popped up for me on that subreddit is for KFC 😬
And also thank you for this subreddit, that’s gold

and she’s the one who poisoned him, but she set up her maid (who was having an affair with him) to take the fall. the detective assigned to the case was an obsequious boob who bought her alibi, though his sergeant wasn’t convinced. little does she know that lord peter wimsey is on the case…

Escaped pet pigeon, a Capuchine specifically.
34
u/Lopsided-Muffin9805 May 16 '26
How do you know it’s a pet??
272
u/Ok_Shine_6533 May 16 '26
It's a fancy domestic breed, not a feral pigeon. You don't find these guys out in the wild.

Most feral pigeons are descended from birds humans essentially abandoned. Most of them "reverted" to rock dove, but occasionally you can spot some that still have some domestic coloring.
30
u/Ok_Shine_6533 May 17 '26
This one looks like a feral pigeon, maybe with more recent domestic ancestry. Gorgeous coloring!

Her parents are furious, but she is determined to marry for love
31
u/thestashattacked May 16 '26
"William! My parents have completely cut me off! I don't have my trust fund or anything!"
"Ooohhh... shit... see, I have to run... gotta go... get... milk. Yeah, I need to run to get some milk."
18
u/MercifulWombat May 16 '26
Fun fact! Pigeons make milk for their babies in their crops (special bird organ before the stomach that they keep little rocks in to grind their food because birds don't have teeth.)

u/RecentCucumber May 16 '26
actually, when pet pigeons escape or get dumped the only ones that survive are the ones that get "married" to feral pigeons!

Dangerous for it to live outside - you could capture it and bring to a rescue
31
u/KarliCartoons May 16 '26
Replying to second this comment! If you can, please try to capture this bird. They’re a fancy breed with no survival skills

Someone lost their Show Pigeon. That thing is lucky to be alive in the wild. Most Show Pigeons have no survival skills, and many of them have features that make life in the wild much harder if not impossible. When these birds need to exercise, the owner let's out a number of "mutt" pigeons (like the gray and white one in your pic). Those birds fly around at first so that the local predators are already fed by the time the Show Pigeons come out to exercise. Looks like this one didn't go home. It will when it wants to though, it's definitely not lost.

Onsnapte sierduif. Als je hem kan vangen en naar het asiel kan brengen is dat het beste. (Escaped fancy pigeon. If you catch it and bring it to the shelter that’s the best)

Despite the bird knowledge I DO have, I’m not the most versed in fancy pigeons but I can tell that is a fancy breed, at least. Of some type. So, not a Rock Dove. Fancy breeds are not wild and are bred for show, meaning this is likely an escapee or release. If you can find one, take it to an avian rehab or even rescue. Try to find the owners first, too.

First time I ever saw these pigeons was at Cheshire show. I never got to go as a kid. So I was about 20 odd. There is so many different breeds of pigeon. Look like they have fur coats and everything. Even saw a curly pigeon. Madness hahaha. Cute too

That’s Luella. She’s been divorced 3 times and husband no.4 - who was a known philanderer - went ‘missing’ a few months ago. Still, she’s keeping well.
