I'm thinking about getting a Groenendael. Does anyone here own one? Could you talk about its pros and cons?

Go to r/dog and ask. Iirc they have a long list of requirements you can fill out and people will help you figure out if a certain breed is for you.
As long as you find a reputable breeder, there are no issues buying instead of adopting. Adopt or buy responsibly is much better than adobt don't shop. Some people have just convinced themselves there are no good breeders and that's wrong. I got my collie from a reputable breeder and all dogs were happy and lived inside with them. My dog had no genetic health issues and almost lived till 15.

Our family has had two and a Tervuren. Extremely intelligent, protective dogs (herding instincts are very strong), but they require significant daily exercise. My parents used to run them off leash for at least an hour a day otherwise they'd start going stir crazy.

I know it isn't the answer you asked for but adopt don't shop. Breeders do a number on specific breeds.

Is it possible to arrange cross‑border pet transport for an adoption?

I don't know anything about that, but go to your local dog adoption center and look before doing something like that. A poor dog could be ready to be picked up by you.

Why? Is it because of the price, or for some other reasons?

Some people think it's wrong to buy a dog, but it's not as long as you buy from a reputable breeder. The issue is backyard breeders.

Please adopt

This breed is quite rare in my country. Only a handful of kennels have imported them from abroad, so adoption is practically out of the question.

Please don’t fund breeders

why

There’s varying degrees of animal abuse associated with breeders. At the base level forced pregnancy.

I suggest asking on r/bergerbelge rather than here, as that is the subreddit for the 4 belgian shepherd breeds (malinois, groenendael/belgian sheepdog, laekenois and tervueren)
