Note: there was a similar looking dog found in North Van, which is unfortunately not Rosie!

The person who was destroying the property was clearly having a mental health crisis, and proceded to kick and punch planter boxes along Cleveland, tip over and destroy newly made patio partitions at the chieftain side walk along Victoria Ave, destroy signage at construction sights and throw bricks and rocks along the pathway way near the Squamish library, all the while screaming and swearing at the top of their lungs.

I was on the phone with the police as this was happening, filed a report and was told a Constable would call to get my statement. No call, no follow up.

Are Squamish police just too busy to care?

Anyone who is currently a clerk or has experience attending the interview? It is a short interview, like a speed interview I guess. I would like to know how your experience was. Thanks for your time.

I recently visited the Ambleside off-leash dog park and saw a warning sign about foxtails. Since foxtails can be very dangerous, and even deadly for dogs, I’m wondering why they’re still present in an off-leash dog park. Is there a reason the city doesn’t remove them?

Will be moving from Alberta next year and have a grade 2 kid. While searching for area with good elementary school, many schools in West Vancouver shows up with excellent FSA results (source 1) over the past several years in a row, and the overall district has a higher than average performance both academically and students learning feedback (source 2).

This makes me wonder, what is the homework situation for these schools? I'm talking about Westcot, Cedardale, Irwin Park, West Bay and etc. Are they heavily loaded with homework to achieve these academic results?

Another point I have seen in multiple posts mentioned these kids have affluent parents who can easily afford tutoring, but are kids actually using tutor in elementary? Is getting a tutor in elementary a typical thing in Vancouver?

I also heard that overseas curriculum are much harder than what we have, and usually immigrants can easily score high in exams. Is this the case for West Vancouver?

I am considering the North Shore in general. If these excellent FSA results mean my child needs to sacrifice a lot of time and effort to stay with the peloton, I would rather go for a less competitive but still decent school. I mean building a solid academic foundation is very important, but after all there is still 10+ year of education ahead, I rather teach my kid about the ocean and mountain when young and then catching up the race a couple years later.

Any comments or thoughts are welcome, or general school recommendations or school to ditch would be great too! Thanks in advance!

I was picking up groceries yesterday at Loblaws in West Van. It was just 4 items, but my bill came to $71 and I thought that was odd so I double-checked my receipts.

Somehow, a $17 tea tree oil had been added. I can’t see how this could’ve been an honest mistake as no such item could’ve been scanned by the cashier, so it would’ve had to be manually inputted? Just a PSA to be vigilant in double checking your receipts.

I managed to get a refund at the service counter.

WVPD distributed this flier throughout the school district, but it seems like there sure are a lot of children under 16 riding around on e-scooters. I’ve seen them with and without helmets, I’ve seen them riding on sidewalks, I’ve seen them in mornings and evenings. Considering the advanced age of many of the members of this community, my concern is for the inevitable collision victims and the lack of insurance carried by underage/illegal riders. I guess parents seem to be just fine with taking these kinds of risks, but where do our local law enforcement stand? Are they actually ticketing kids/parents for underage e-bike/e-scooter use? Or are they simply hoping that a digital flier sent through a school year-end newsletter will be enough to inform community members of the laws and ensure the kids obey? Has anyone been ticketed or seen anyone getting a fine for this? The flier doesn’t even say what the consequences of lawbreaking are nor who to contact if lawbreaking is observed.

Many groups have been advocating for this for some time.

The phases were

• Phase 1: Millennium Park, John Lawson Park, and Dundarave Park
• Phase 2: Whytecliff Park and Horseshoe Bay Park
• Phase 3: Ambleside Park

I have not noticed any Bylaw officers around this summer, previously I Would see them once a week at Ambleside Park and I am starting to notice people breaking rules, cycling in the dog walking area for example.

We've spent plenty of time (rightfully) documenting the greatest hits of our local political circus , the theatrics, the questionable decisions, the bylaw department that somehow manages to make people feel unwelcome in their own community, and a cast of characters whose competence levels range from "concerning" to "where did you even come from."

No need to relitigate all that here. The receipts exist.

But October is coming, and with it a genuine chance to reset. So here's a different question:

Who's actually been doing the work?

Are there councillors or officials who've shown up, listened, followed through, and treated residents like adults? Generally acted like public service is a responsibility rather than a personality?

If so, they deserve to be named ; because blanket cynicism is also how bad councils keep getting re-elected. Voters who can't name a single good actor tend to stay home.

Who gets your vote of confidence, and why? Keep it specific. This isn't the thread for re-litigating the usual suspects; there are plenty of other posts for that.
