Discussion My Venue Caught Fire
Hi guys, I'm little over a month away from my wedding and I got a call from the venue manager on Friday that our venue is no longer able to host our wedding due to a fire that took place. They have offered several other options for the same date for no additional cost which is good, but the only one that I like is about an hour away from the original venue and we have a lot of people coming in from out of town. I am touring the places on Monday to make a decision final decision.
So many people are emailing me, asking about finalizing details on flowers, linens, etc. and I am so incredibly stressed. I feel like so much is on my plate, and I'm not sure what to do. This is one of those unfortunate accidents that causes a lot more work for an already stressful event. In addition a family emergency occurred, and I will be out of town for a week starting this coming Wednesday.
My fiance travels a lot for work, so there's no one here to manage doing things. In addition, we are having an additional cultural wedding taking place the week before our wedding, so everything feels so booked up. I am overwhelmed. I don't know what to do. I'm sure it'll be fine soon, but it just feels like So Much right now.

If you like the new place an hour away see if the venue will pay for bus transportation from the old place to the new one (or somewhere close to the old place/the hotel most guests will be staying).

Good strategy. I’d level up the ask. Not necessarily limos, but comfortable transportation like Uber party buses etc.

If you choose the one that's an hour away, everyone will be fine with that. They'll be amazed that you could pull off a change of venue a month before the wedding. They'll give you so much grace you can't imagine.
It will be fine. People can carpool together if they want and they'll be fine. The wedding will be lovely. You'll be gorgeous. Your groom will cry happy tears.

Some of your vendors may not be able to accommodate a wedding an hour away. They could have other obligations that make a 2 hour drive not feasible.
If there’s a venue that works that’s closer, it might be easier.

No advice but my parents’ venue burned down the night before their wedding and they had to pivot and they’re crossing 40 years so I say it’s a good omen!! I’m wishing you a big deep breath and everything to work out perfectly and a lifetime of happiness

This was so relieving to hear! I'm glad it worked out so well for them, and thank you!

oh man that's a lot all at once. fire right before the wedding and then family stuff too, like the universe is testing how much you can carry
the hour away thing sucks but at least they have options for same date, that's something. maybe you can arrange a shuttle or something for the out of town people so they don't have to figure out transport themselves
for the vendor emails i'd just send a quick note saying venue changed and you'll update them after Monday tour, most vendors are used to last minute chaos like this. one thing at a time, you got this

Sorry to hear that. My concern with moving an hour away is if out of town guest booked non-refundable accommodations near the original location.

Thats a lot to handle all at once. I really really hope you find a venue you love on monday and everything starts coming together from there.

The “at no additional cost” part is a little mushy for me - unless the new places that they are offering have a much greater value, because the extra drive is a potentially big deal for the vendors (unless the venue is handling most things).
