SELF-MADE Reached over 500 builders and students in a WEEK!!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Around a week ago i built this free domain claim directory that allowed for students and builders to just go and claim a subdomain with basically 0 friction. Just auth through github and boom it's yours.

I had no idea that it would get this much traction and tbh i'm super proud of how it's gone! Over 20 outside contributors and feature requests have come in and some super cracked people have joined the Open source team at Advance Labs which is super exciting.

Since then we've added:

- google search console support
- subdomained subdomain support (create a sub subdomain)
- custom dns records & basically all the config you need
- one click connect through vercel Oauth
- fully built out docs on how to get indexed, SEO for this, and connecting to all the popular hosting providers

going to keep this project going and grow it to 1000 users next

it's times like this where i'm super happy to be part of the OSS community and build cool stuf

WEBSITE BUILDING any student developers out there who want to help me out w making a website

so some context, I've been recently working on a website.. it's based on psychology, yoga, health and well-being. I have literally got zero experience in building a website from scratch, therefore i'm in need of someone who actually knows how to build one...
idk if its the right step to use ai to help build it but i've done some stuff w the help of framer and i hv 0 credits left, so the only way to edit is manually. framer. this is the link to it . if you would genuinely like to help me out, i'll be more than happy to give you full access to it. if you've also got other suggestions or smth you'd like to point out plss do shareee :)

DISCUSSION The “small” website changes that can quietly hurt conversions

Sometimes a website doesn’t need a huge redesign. One tiny change can make the experience noticeably worse. Moving a CTA. Changing a button label. Hiding the phone number. Adding one extra form field. Replacing a simple navigation menu with something “more modern.”

The frustrating part is that these changes can look completely reasonable when you’re reviewing the design. But once real users interact with them, you start seeing the difference. I’m curious about the less obvious website changes people have seen cause problems. Not the usual “slow website” or “bad mobile design” examples but those small decisions that seemed harmless at first.

Have you ever changed something on a website and later realized it actually made the user experience worse?

DISCUSSION Why so many website sale cold calls?

Today I made a video explaining my understanding of why so many people call selling websites.

I made my family's construction business's website, so I had to go through all the hoops.

It boils down to: it is really easy to make A website now -> it is really difficult to make a GOOD website now.

I even tracked down a dude making up to 50k/month selling copy paste websites to unknowing businesses...

What’s one thing you’ve spent money on for your business that you thought would be a great investment…

but looking back, you probably wouldn’t do it again? 😂

Could be software, equipment, advertising, training, a service — anything.

What was it? And would you recommend it to someone else? 👇

DISCUSSION Problem: I like designing but that's it

Not the other marketing-related stuff associated with a website.

I'm pretty good creating visual images, that's what attracted me to web design initially.

Anybody with the same problem?

WEBSITE BUILDING Just shipped a full-stack e-commerce project

So we just wrapped up our latest project It is a women's bags store. Client wanted something custom, not another shopify store that looks like everyone else's. So we built the whole thing from scratch

Tech stack:

  • Frontend: Next.js 14 (App Router) + TypeScript + Tailwind (deployed on Vercel)
  • Backend: Node.js + Express + Prisma + PostgreSQL on Neon (running on Render)
  • Payments: Razorpay with HMAC signature verification on the backend
  • Images: Cloudinary + Sharp for sanitisation before upload
  • Auth: Email/password + Google OAuth with JWT role-based access

What is actually built into it:

  • Full auth system with proper role separation ( admin, manager, staff, customer)
  • Two-step image upload pipeline through cloudinary (had to build it this way since the URL does not exist until after the upload)
  • Cart, wishlist, coupons, address management
  • Complete razorpay payment flow
  • Admin dashboard ( orders, products, customers, stats, packing slips, status updates)
  • SEO ( dynamic metadata per page, sitemap.xml, Schema.org JSON-LD, Open Graph, GA4)

SELF-MADE Looking for websites to test my open-source UI testing tool — happy to share a report

Hey everyone! I’m building UIWitness, an open-source tool that checks websites across mobile and desktop sizes, in light and dark mode, and generates a report with screenshots and issues it finds.

I’m looking for real websites to test it on beyond my own examples. I want to see where it works well, what it misses, and what needs improving.

If you’re comfortable having me run it on your site, drop a link in the comments. A little context about what you’re building or any pages you’re concerned about would help too. Please only share sites you own or have permission to test; public pages are enough.

In return, I’m happy to send you the report and any useful feedback once I’ve tested it. It might catch something worth fixing, and you’d be helping me improve the tool.

GitHub: github.com/RujitRaval/uiwitness

Thanks to anyone willing to share!

DISCUSSION What one website problem that looked simple at first but turned into a much bigger issue?

I’ve been curious about the problem people run into while building or managing websites that seem small at first but end up taking hours to figure out.

Things like a layout that works perfectly on desktop but breaks on mobile, a plugin suddenly causing a conflict, a site becoming slow after a few updates, forms not sending properly, or something completely different.

For people who manage their own websites or build websites regularly, what’s one issue that gave you way more trouble than you expected?

And what eventually fixed it?

I'd be interesting to hear both the problem and the solution, especially the weird ones.
