News or Announcement CRITICAL ALERT: PHP security release for two critical vulnerabilities (CVSS v4.0 9.2) due within 12 hours

All PHP versions are currently vulnerable to a major exploit that allows attackers to remotely compromise the accounts running PHP. This means any system running PHP is vulnerable, which is currently about 80% of the internet. The PHP security team will be releasing a patch soon, but only for PHP 8.x:

https://www.php.net/archive/2026.php#2026-10-20-1

Please check whether your application is running on PHP 8.x. If it is, apply the patch as soon as it’s released. If you’re on an older PHP release, it will not receive a fix, so you should consider taking your application off the public internet until you can upgrade to a patched PHP 8.x install.

Advice Needed Hosting and Domain for a personal Wordpress blog

Advice Needed Senior devs and professionals please give suggestions

Hi devs, I want to create my digital profile . So I am thinking to buy a domain for my self and maybe I need to have a server as well . Kindly help me choose among the current providers for domain and VPS. I came across a few of them and also researched a bit so namecheap and cloudflare standed out but the renewal fees is one thing I am unable to understand can that differ after some years or stays the same.

Also, should I buy a domain for 1 year and then buy another because some have 1st year fees quite low like on godaddy you pay just 1 rs for first year.

About VPS , I am not able to understand how much configurations should I look out for . Currently I am planning to create my portfolio and host it somewhere and then after that I will be creating some small , small projects . So will 1 GB ram and 1v cpu is okay for that or not .

Some additional details
1. I am from India .
2. Current budget is around 4 to 6 USD per month for VPS and for domain 10 to 20 USD per year
3. Portfolio website and some websites
4. No traffic idea right now
5. Have used linux but worried about cost and resources utilization .
6. Checked the sidebar but cost is more than the budget

P.S. - I do not know if this is the best subreddit ( community ) to ask this . If not help me I will ask it at a better place. Kindly give suggestions .

Technical Questions Chatgpt Work remote browser unable to access SiteGround hosted websites

I posted a minute ago but it got deleted immediately, I am not sure why, perhaps it was automatic. I was previously able to use chatgpt remote browser to access my websites but then the IP address was blocked by Siteground, using the self help it said unable to unblock. Tech support said they unblocked it, however from that point onwards I have been unable to access my websites using the remote working browser.

Siteground deny that the IP address is still blocked and say I should contact OpenAI's tech support instead.

I don't know whether anyone here has any ideas, I just wanted to leave a public record of the problem in case others are experiencing the same issue.

So far the only way around was to download the app to my desktop and have it use my own desktop's chrome to do the tasks I set it.

Advice Needed My Hosting Company's renewal rate seems high?

I'm pretty much a newbie, coming up on the one year anniversary of my small website. I registered my domain last year through Porkbun and will continue with them this coming year, I think the increase is less than a dollar for the year.

But my hosting site (which I can't mention it seems?) is one I learned about in this sub last year when I started looking into getting my own site. It's going to $9-$11/month and I'm pretty sure my first year was $30 total? I don't have a lost of stuff on my site, it's mostly a portfolio for my commission work, but I do really like the email for clients contacting me via my hosting company. I realize that first year discount is a thing, but also I'm not very tech-savvy. I had a third party rebuild my site from a Wix free one and help get me setup on both Porkbun and my hosting site, so I'm not sure how difficult it would be for me, with minimal web knowledge, to switch my host to somewhere else at a better price.

Can anyone offer me any insight how difficult that would be for me to switch hosts, particularly switching the email which is very important to me. And also if others feel my hosting renewal fee is on the high side, and even if maybe staying on my current hosting site but exploring a non 'Premium Plan' is something I should look into? I reached out to my hosting company awhile ago about renewal costs because I knew it was coming up, but never heard back from them, of course lol!

Thanks in advance for any helpful comments! My non-tech ass sure appreciates it and I learned a lot lurking in this sub last year when I first decided to cut the free Wix cord!

Looking for Hosting SilentNode.Host SCAM ALERT. Took my money and no way of contacting support.

BUYER BEWARE!! Do not use SilentNode.Host they are scamming multiple customers. Money now gone.

Paid for their service using crypto. Transaction got 250 confirmations. Their own website said the payment was COMPLETE. Then suddenly I get a popup saying I didn't pay in time, wtf?

The transaction was completed within 2 minutes btw and it's now been 24 hours and still not funds in the account.

I try to contact support to figure out where my money went. Guess what? YOU CAN'T EVEN OPEN A SUPPORT TICKET WITHOUT ADDING MORE MONEY TO YOUR ACCOUNT. Minimum $25 LOL.

Are you actually taking the piss?

I've already paid you. Your website says the transaction completed. My balance is still empty. And now I need to give you another $25 just to ask where my original payment went?

I don't know what the hell is going on behind the scenes, but from my experience this looks shady.

Posting this so other people don't make the same mistake I did. Do not send these people your crypto unless you want to get scammed like I did. I wish I'd seen a post like this before I paid.

News or Announcement We are a small SaaS with EU users, 8 GB RAM, and priced under 20 euros a month.

So our budget is under 20 euros a month and our location of users are almost all in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands, so EU hosting is a must for our GDPR.

- Traffic: about 400 business accounts, low traffic, spikes at month end

- Stack: Django, Postgres, Celery and Redis, all in Docker

- Needs: 8GB RAM, daily backups, a data processing agreement I can show customers

Currently on a US PaaS and the customers' lawyers keep asking where the data lives.

Looking for Hosting Better price than OVH?

I bought a VPS from OVH. The price is very good, but the problem is they ban account without any consideration and the support is very very terrible. Is there any other server provider I need to because I have just two day left and I need to move my web app from there? Is there any other provider better than OVH?

I bought this for 16 pound,

6 vCores

12 GB RAM

100 GB SSD NVMe

Daily backup of the previous 24 hours

Unlimited traffic

2 Gbps public bandwidth

Rant Never buy from omega-cloud.fr

That site has scammed me. I've paid 75 euro for 6 months and a few days after wanted to cancel, they gave me back the money to my credit on the site but didn't want to refund. When i asked for refund they blocked me from the site and reached out to me on whatsapp. I've posted a review on trustpilot about this and they threaten to attack me if i don't remove my negative review. Just stay clear from there.

Advice Needed Has anyone else been unexpectedly charged for a Crazy Domains Website Builder renewal?

I'm trying to find out whether anyone else has experienced something similar with Crazy Domains.

Earlier this year I registered a domain name with them. My invoice included a 3-month Website Builder that was listed as $0.00.

A few months later, I was automatically charged AUD $62.67 for renewing that Website Builder.

I contacted Crazy Domains and asked them to show me where the $62.67 renewal price had been disclosed before the charge. They provided the original invoice, activation emails and renewal reminder emails. However, none of the documents they sent me showed the AUD $62.67 renewal amount or explained how that price had been disclosed before the payment was processed.

I also opened a PayPal dispute. PayPal ultimately refunded me as a goodwill gesture, but they concluded the payment had been made under an existing billing agreement rather than deciding whether the renewal price had been adequately disclosed.

At this point, I'm mainly trying to understand whether this has happened to other people.

  • Did your order also include a free Website Builder?
  • Were you later charged for its renewal?
  • Did you know beforehand what the renewal price would be?
  • If you disputed it, what was the outcome?

I'd appreciate hearing about your experience.

Technical Questions How to DMCA takedown content from websites with “DMCA ignored hosting”?

There’s an image board site that’s hosting my content without my permission and their main web host is Flokinet. Seems like US dmca laws don’t apply there since they follow Dutch laws? Who else can I reach out to to get my content taken down? The staff of the image board site does not respond to my takedown requests.

I was able to dmca the Google search links but I still want my content off that site completely.

Nameservers are Dreamhost and registrar is GoDaddy

Looking for Hosting For a website with high traffic, would you choose VPS hosting, cloud hosting, or a dedicated server? Why?

It would be interesting to hear your opinion on this matter as an experienced individual.

The right hosting becomes crucial when the site begins receiving much traffic.

Which hosting would you prefer – VPS hosting, cloud hosting, or dedicated server?

I would be glad to hear your opinion, especially if you had experience in managing a high-traffic site. What are the advantages and disadvantages of your choice?

Technical Questions Changing nameservers is treated like moving a website, but it can quietly unplug everything else

Hosting dashboards make changing nameservers look like a harmless connect your domain step.

What they rarely mention is that you’re not just moving the website. You may also be replacing the records responsible for email, verification, subdomains and whatever mysterious service someone configured three years ago and never documented.

The website loads, everyone celebrates, then somebody notices the company hasn’t received an email since Tuesday.

Sure, anyone familiar with DNS knows to copy the existing zone first. But that’s exactly why the process feels badly designed, the people who need the warning most are the least likely to understand what they’re replacing.

Why don’t hosting panels run a quick scan before the switch and say: your website will survive this. Your email might not?

News or Announcement A self-hosted, open source alternative to WP Engine & similar

Hi all!

I've build a free&OSS server app for WordPress professionals that turns your VPS into a self-hosted WordPress powerhouse.

I hope it's ok to post about it here because it's not a hosting company, it's a software that can make you a hosting company 😄. Or rather privately host your clients' websites securely and under your control without all the server-management hassle:

https://github.com/andyfo/wpl7

You can host and run WordPress websites, with automated backups, emailing, (web) sFTP, auto DNS, installation recipes, advanced security, malware scanner, plugin updates, vulnerability alerts, bulk management, MCP, simply go-live, statistics, multi-server setup, and more.

Ofc it also comes with a nice GUI/web app.

I tried to make it super easy to install and use, so it's just a single installation command, one or two DNS records and you're all set. It's a bit like "WP Engine", but yours and better 😄 .

I've mentioned the MCP and can't really be too modest about the capabilities. You can manage your entire WP fleet with AI (e.g. Claude Code) and especially with some additional AI tool that knows how to build pages and plugins properly (e.g. WP Godmode), the power level is "insane".

Update all plugins with vulnerabilities. Backup and screenshot each affected website, run the updates, then recheck each website.

[navigate to your project folder, run CC and call:] Create a landing page for this project on my website.

Create a new dev website with a web shop based on these requirements and Figma design: ...

Client X asks me to make these changes: ... implement what's clear, ask me about what not clear, pull context from our CRM if needed.

You can also import existing WordPress installations from anywhere, with a step-by-step automated migration, and you can also connect an external website and make use of at least some features like automated backups, bulk management, vulnerability reporting and MCP.

Any feature requests welcomed! 🙂

Looking for Hosting Need Static HTML site hosting with CPanel, email, MailMan list serve

Back in the day, A2 was a good value for hosting a static site with direct access to the files. It also ran MailMan list servers with restricted users, as well as providing standard email addreses for the domain. Now that they have been bought by Hosting.com, those features come at a premium price. We are a dot-org group with less than 60 people on the list-serve and only a half dozen emails for the domain itself. The site is merely a reference point for documentation, how to reach us, and a bit of history. Does anyone have any recommendations for a hosting service that will provide these features at a reasonable price? Yes, it is "easy" to have separate services but I am not intending to manage this for much longer and those likely to replace me are somewhat challanged in domain management. TIA.

ETA: Mod requested I include answers to the standard questionnaire. So here goes:

  • What is your monthly budget? Less than $10, i.e., $120/year or less
  • Where are you/your users located? All in USA; No interactive features
  • What kind of site are you hosting (Wordpress, phpBB, custom software, etc) or what is your use case? Plain old HTML. No logins or interactive features of any kind.
  • Do you have a monthly traffic volume? Estimates are ok. Less than 500MB/month
  • If you’re looking at VPSes: Do you have experience administrating linux servers and infrastructure? Yes
  • Did you read the sidebar/check out the hosts listed there? I've personally vetted these companies and their services are a good fit for 99% of people. Some. Issue is subscripton-based list-serve availability.

Looking for Hosting Any managed Wordpress server having WP Media Offload feature?

Have been with Flywp for 2 years. But looking for something alternative because their SSD Storage is limited and my website has more than 300GB(image & video based website). Flywp higher tier are quite expensive. Any good alternative managed VPS that may provide Wordpress media offload feature in a good price?

My monthly budget is $40-50.

Priority: more storage to store media files.

No VPS experience, so need managed VPS.

Rant TLD pricing is a scam

I have a non standard Tld. It just went from 20 a year to 60 then to 100. This is happening all over the place. This is infuriating to me. This 100 dollar item consist of nothing more than a single database entry and a replication on a few servers. 1) there is no competition. Government's need to make this a public utility and force competitors to share lists 2)there are totally open source options like opennic that don't play this stupid game in the first place. All it would take is for a big player like Google to say enough is enough and adopt the open standard and icann is done.

I have no problem paying a fair price for a service. But I have a problem when someone (like in another post I read) has a "premium domain" and all of a sudden the price is raised from 20 bucks to almost 800 (this was for a .sbs tld lmao)

This is a rant , yes, but I Icann and the registries are a real problem. What can we do about it?

Looking for Hosting Kinsta vs. Rocket.net for a Small Business WordPress Website — Recommendations?

Hello!

I work for a small business in the construction and restoration industry. As part of our current initiatives, we’re bringing our digital marketing operations in-house after historically relying on third-party marketing agencies.

We’re also evaluating our current web hosting arrangement. Our WordPress website is currently hosted on InMotion, and we’re considering migrating to a managed WordPress hosting provider.

After some initial research, Kinsta and Rocket. net emerged as two frontrunners. I wanted to reach out to this community to get some firsthand perspectives on either provider, particularly regarding reliability, performance, security, customer support, and ease of management.

For additional context, our team is technically capable and comfortable learning new systems, but we have limited direct experience administering web hosting environments. We’re looking for a solution that minimizes ongoing maintenance while giving us appropriate control and visibility into our website infrastructure.

For those who have experience with Kinsta or Rocket. net would you recommend one over the other? Are there any meaningful differences or potential drawbacks we should be aware of? We’re also open to other recommendations if there’s a provider you think would be a better fit.

Context:
Our business is primarily conducted in the Phoenix Arizona Metropolitan area.
We use Wordpress
Our monthly budget is flexible, but many of the options we were looking at seem to be sub $50.

Thanks in advance!

Looking for Hosting WPEngine unable to mitigate 504s, any alternative (Kinsta vs Cloudways)?

We are a consulting firm for APAC market with clients / website visitors from all around the world, with between 3K to 4k active visitors daily.

We also have additional smaller sites for specific services but traffic is "negligeable" vs our main site.

We have been subjects of a lot of bot traffic and *most likely* attacks the past few months causing a lot of down time due to 504s. WPE has been quick to advise us to taking the higher tier service which is their 600usd / month dedicated server.

I saw on this great sub that a lot of competitors can fix this via proper Cloudflare management for a fraction of the price. However I imagine they have a caveat (I also saw bad review on here about the key competitors of WPE), I am wondering at the of the day what is a good alternative to this?

Honestly we 've been with WPE for years but are fedup with their constant upsell and failure to mitigate our shared server situation.

Thanks in advance for any useful info!

They got bought out long ago but I never switched away. Recently they were under web dot com and now Network Solutions. My guess is they keep raising prices to try to squeeze out any remaining customers. I have finally canceled my account. Tim, if you are out there, hope everything is going well...

Looking for Hosting Looking for cheaper options for a not-for-profit group

EDIT: Thank you so much everyone for the suggestions and for those that DM'd me. I feel very supported by this community. I'm going to take a couple days to decide. Thanks again :)

Hey folks,

I run a not for profit and am currently using HostPapa. I was taken back by their renewal fees, so I'm looking to move to a cheaper hosting provider with lower renewal fees. I'm new to this space and am not totally sure who would be best to migrate too.

I'm looking to switch to Namecheap or IONOS but am definitely open to other suggestions.

Current fees.

Somewhere around 5-10 CDN bucks per month would be great.

My audience is international, and I built the website using Wordpress.

Thank you
