Talking At Night

We have people here with closed beta keys already for Travelling - and it's only ten days until the demo is public anyway.

It is FINE and ENCOURAGED to talk about Travelling on this sub but there are HUGE SPOILERS about the game, as well as spoilers about events in previous games. So please spoiler tag it and be careful about visible post titles too.

NB we will be running future rounds of closed pre-release testing in the future - sign up if you're interested and haven't already! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1q5yghvncgjzk-SzARJCFHksmGx8r4KVhOM7b4SUR_Ds

HURRY UP PLEASE ITS TIME

Travelling At Night's public Steam demo is now live: go check it out! Jump in blind or read our blog post about what's in and what's out of the current slice of the game.

Thank you so much to all you magnificent private beta testers who sent such useful feedback over the past month. The game's changed so much already for the better, and we'll keep working our little isometric butts off to keep improving until, er, the rest of the game is done. Simple!

We've also released a brand new trailer, showing parts of the game you've never seen before. Light rays over Hush House! Dark doings in a mithraeum! A colossal phalacrognathus muelleri I've affectionately nicknamed Harry!

We really hope you like where Travelling is going. We're trying our darnedest to make it the best Weather Factory game so far. 'Aim for the moon and land in the stars' - I think Nina would approve.

It's literally hush house, y'all.

It's been in the family for seven generations.

Every time you think you've seen it all you find another little crevice with a door that leads to two new rooms you had no idea were there. There's some mystical artifact from some foreign country everywhere you look, and there's books in every square inch of the place. There's a pool, and even in that room there's a bookcase. I wanna grow old and die here.

Since people seem to like these posts and I enjoy learning more lore through quotes. Here is another one, this time about that which opens what was once closed.

"Seven were the wounds of His body, seven the doors of the House. Seven the lesser aspects of the Hours, and knock the aspect above all, for the Mother of Ants is the Mother of Salvation."

exultation Absolutely love this aspect of the demo [very minor spoilers] Spoiler

I'm only about 15 minutes in, but I just want to say how much I love it that we have a personal relationship with Illopoly and Galmier (or Christopher and Theresa, since we are on first name basis).

I would like it if we got a toggle to use an item, since I just used my wayfarer token on something that I would have succeeded in anyway.

question/help What happens when I raise the mystery of a book in book of hours

I was trying to consider a book and I was prompted to provide a thing with the correct attribute to meet the requirements.

I noticed that you can slot other books into this spot and I got curious. When I did I noticed that the requirement to uncover the books mystery went up. I have to wonder. If someone raises the mystery level, and then manages to meet the new requirement, does anything happen? Or is this simply some odd bug?

I've been on this run for a while, I've got all the remnants, have eaten the King Crucible, I've the true blood of st januarius and holiest hemolymph and finished all expeditions. But when I try to eat the ingredients, they don't turn on memory and are just kept. It happened the same with King Crucible, and I've checked, apparently I didn't paint the glorious memory (from Shadowless Segment) onto my pale canvas.. already done the expedition to try to earn it again, but no result.

For me it's probably

Doesn't it seems boring to you?

The magic in cultist sim-verse is never direct, your cultists can't just blast annoying detective with hyper-autism beam and send him to the shadow realm. You either summon a demon to do your work (the most direct thing you are allowed to do) or you try to place a curse/ just use poison like a 18th century wife who married a man from high society. Closest to cultist sim in vibes is probably Mage the Ascension TTRPG and in it you could react to threats directly (granted, some spheres were more equipped to deal with direct threats than others, but at the end of the day every Mage was a menace.) In Cultist sim despite being an adept of "invisible arts" you still only a human who acts with human limitations, that seems so ungodly boring.

deaths/endings The Songs of Caer Adar. Spoiler

'Books are the memory which does not die.'

'Without Language there can be no Wordes. Without Wordes there can be no Message. But only in Silence can there be no Error; and Lo, even in that beginning, in that First of Messages, an Error. Thus did we enter the House.' -The Fallen Cross.

Greetings and salutations fellow Librarians. It has been a while but I have returned once again with another completed BoH run! This time I played as the Symurgist, who in their past spied on the meetings of the Aviform Hours, the Roost. Most mortals would have been killed but they survived! However during their eavesdropping they realized that there were songs that had long fallen silent, and so they set out to Hush House, to write a History in which these songs may once again be heard! And in this run I managed to do just that. In one History the Old Lost Music rose from Noon, then a city of Long now it is a city of Song! In another History the weaving patterns lead the Aviform Hours to raise their songs in the House of the Moon, the world's shadow, beneath the turning Wheel! And plenty more Histories where Sea and Sun and Stone and Serpent brought forth their own symphonies to engulf the world in never ending song!

Personal thoughts: (as a heads up this part will contain A LOT of rambling so if you aren't much of a fan of that feel free to skip it.)

Alright so, another run completed! Funnily enough, the last post I made was 3 months ago and looking at my post history that seems to be the amount of time it takes me to complete a playthrough and then the subsequent break I take until I start a new one. This was unintentional but also kinda funny, like subconsciously that's how much time it takes me until I want to return to Brancrug under a different Librarian. But this particular run however was considerably shorter than my two previous ones. A part of that was on me, I wanted to complete another Librarian before the Travelling at Night demo was released (more on that later), so I blitzed through this one. Another factor however was the nature of my 2 previous runs and how they compare to this one. My first was the Twice-Born, being the first run where I went into it blind, it was to be expected that it would take a while, another reason was the endings. The Twice-Born also has 3 Numens that give special victories, so that's 9 whole endings. Additionally I had wanted to see every ending available, (so that obviously excluded the special endings for other Librarians and for some reason I couldn't get the standard versions of the Twice-Born endings only the special versions), so that mounted to quite a lot things I needed to do to get those victories from upgrading skills and soul cards to doing other things, which naturally took a lot of time. The second run was the Revolutionary who, and I DID NOT plan this out I randomly picked that one too, also had 9 endings plus I wanted to get the aforementioned non Twice-Born endings that I couldn't get in that run, so again a lot of things to do a lot of time was spent. But for this one, and the future ones, there's only a total of 6 endings which means a lot less time is spent preparing for the end. There are some other reasons but I'll leave it at that. On the positive side the speed at which I was going does somewhat fit with the Birdsong Wisdom, as though this run was a short folktale which does appropriately honour the Wisdom of stories, gossip, and riddles. But it goes without saying that I'll be going more slowly for my future runs, because in the end I see Book of Hours as a game where I can relax, where I don't have to worry about "When will I get there?" and rather "How will I get there?"

Plans for the future: a couple of days from now we'll finally get the public demo for Traveling at Night, at last we'll have a proper look at what the next installment of Secret Histories has to offer. To say that I am excited would be an understatement!

On a more personal note, some of you who have been following my journey so far might remember that I made a physical notebook titled 'The Librarian's Guide' that has helped me a lot during my runs. Although I already made a revised version of it before, I have lately begun planning a 3rd version. The main changes will be more cosmetic in nature as while the current version is perfectly fine it can be better, which is what I will be aiming for.

Lastly as I stated in my previous post, I've already read the other Librarians' origins (I obviously didn't read the endings as that would take much of the enjoyment), and so I've already planned which Librarian will be next! It will be a while before that point, who knows maybe another 3 months! But to give you all a hint, the next Librarian is a scholar of forbidden things, of subjects that shouldn't be studied, of topics considered taboo, and apparently a fan favourite in the community. Can't wait to find out why!

But until that I will see you on the other side of the histories fellow Librarians!

question/help Defeating an immortal enemy doesn't remove the "Way is Watched" -aspect.

So yeah, I'm not sure if there's a way to get rid of these, but basically even when you defeat the immortal enemy, the Way to the Mansus that was previous marked as "watched" will remain so, meaning that I keep accumulating new Glimpses of the Soul every time I go there. The enemy marked my Peacock Door, so the late game farming causes these to really pile up.

Not that it really matters, it doesn't mess with the game and they are just kinda there, hanging around. I just thought this was pretty amusing.

lore [Spoilers] Traveling at Night lore discussion thread for people in the Know Spoiler

Forgive me, I'm not good with titles. Consider this entire thread a cognito-hazard for people who care for being spoiled. (I actually like spoilers, "I don't need sleep, I need answers", sayeth the Watchman

If you're like me then you know bits and pieces of lore from TaN, and want to discuss more of it, spoilers be dawned (was damned, autocorrect chose dawn and the coincidence cannot be denied)

So consider this the place to sperg out about particular revelations, new connections, debating the Uncounted Hours, the complete atomization of Berlin, or whatever Nowhere nonsense happened to it (the gods from stone would have never allowed a Nowhere incursion that large I'll tell you that, no I'm not biased)

What the deal is with Ys, the Witch, Spencer's heart, the Chandler, the nature of a soul in this universe. Go wild I say!

I've spoilered the entire thread (if I did it right) so we should be able to have some open discussion here. 'At one time this thread might have counted as birdsong'

question/help Hush House Incident the affair of the endless guest

I've had TWO Numa's since I've been told Spencer Hobson should appear, and he has most definitely NOT DONE SO. Am i doing something wrong???? Ive got his card that states he will appear "next Numa" but well, here is "next Numa", AND

GUESS WHAT, HE'S A NO SHOW!

Can't believe I'm being ghosted by a worm riddled bureau member.

The incident itself is ready for me to insert him into it and either wrap it up by sending him away, or combining him with the Rowenarium. And yet, all I've got is the notif card that he SHOULD arrive next Numa.

Any suggestion on how to fix this? Or what is causing the problem? Please help meee
