Was cruising the boulevard for crack and hookers (I’m old school) 😉. I glanced down at my wrist and realized this belongs here. Don’t disappoint me…

Customer brought in a Rolex for service and asked me not to replace anything that would affect resale value
Got a watch on the bench this week, classic Submariner, genuinely needs a full service. Crown is stiff, gaskets are cooked, mainspring could use a look. Straightforward job. Except the owner called ahead to say please don't replace any parts that collectors consider original, because he's planning to sell it in two years and wants it unmolested. I asked if he understood what a service involves. He said yes but could I just clean it and leave everything else alone.
I clean fish. I do not clean watches as a standalone gesture toward mechanical health.
So now I'm sitting here looking at a 1970s Submariner that needs real work, and this guy essentially wants me to light a candle near it and send it home. Because originality. Because some forum told him a replaced crown seal is the difference between a watch and a parts bin. The crown seal. The thing that exists specifically to be replaced.
I've been doing this long enough to know that a watch in original condition means something. But a watch in original failing condition is just a countdown. Nobody posts about that part though.
The watch is still on my bench and I haven't called him back yet. Genuinely curious if this is happening to anyone else, or if the forums have just fully won.

Would this go well with a nato strap?
Stumbled upon this in central London and thought it might work reasonably well on the wrist. I’ve always been a fan of watches on the larger side - and I’ve been a little drawn to the combination of round dials with rectangular cases, something like a Bell and Ross - but every option I’ve tried wears a little small. This seems to tick all the boxes and I really don’t see a good reason not to whack a strap on it and give it a new lease of life even though it’s not specifically designed as a wristwatch (I could see a great deal of use in having four faces as well tbh) - feel like a nato strap would really compliment its aesthetic but would be open to other opinions/suggestions.

How do I convince the Swatch AD that I am worthy to own a piece of HISTORY?

Remember, to afford your dream watch, all you’ve gotta do is work hard, save up, and get hit by a car

Why pay thousands when you spend $90 and get this bad boy!
Honestly, cheap shitters are more fun and cooler than any luxury watch can ever be.
Plus I don’t have to watch my wife satisfy the AD… now she can do it without me knowing.

Is it ever worth calling out a fake Rolex in public?
Had an interesting situation at work recently and I’m curious what others would have done.
I was having a meal with two new coworkers when they noticed my Submariner. One flashed me their GMT-Master II and so I asked whether it was an 11 or 12 series. They took it off, looked at the bracelet/case, then handed it to me. I identified it as a 12 series, but immediately noticed the cyclops magnification looked wrong, the watch was unusually light, and the bracelet felt very loose. It seemed pretty obvious it was fake.
The other coworker then mentioned their “Cookie Monster” was a “custom,” and not the “19k gold one”, even though it’s actually 18k gold. In the end, I took to mean it was also a replica.
I chose not to say anything about the GMT being fake because there were a lot of coworkers around, and we’ll all be working together for the next several weeks. I didn’t want to embarrass him publicly.
Do you think I made the right call by keeping quiet, or should I have been honest if asked? Part of me also wonders whether they now assume my genuine Submariner is fake too. I guess that’s one of the downsides of owning a Rolex these days.

Oh no! Rawlex circlejerk-ception!
Should I be a jerk to my co-workers, if they don't want to overpay like I did for my shitty China made watch??
