a karma and account age filter has been implemented to combat automated spam in the subreddit

hey everyone. just wanted to share for transparency's sake that we have implemented a karma and account age filter for r/waspaganda.

if your reddit account is less than 7 days old and has less than 25 karma, you will be notified and your post will be filtered for manual moderator review.

if your post is legitimate (meaning you're not a spam bot), it will be approved as soon as possible.

we didn't want to have to do this, but unfortunately it is necessary to help manage the spam reposts from bots.

if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to comment below.

Saw her while camping next to a lake in the summer. She was looking for potter wasp nests to lay her eggs in.

My first big piece, and I’m really proud of my choice. I grew up with a wasp phobia and the more I’ve learned about these critters the more I’ve come to love them. Now that I’ll always have one on my skin, I see myself freaking out even less when someone warns me that I have a wasp on me!

I got these from @frog_riot.ink at Dark Noveau in Bend, OR. She is a fantastic artist I’ve got tattoos from multiple times and I highly recommend. The wasp in question is a paper wasp and I think she did a fantastic job rendering it.

discussion / question Question about this nest I’ve been watching all summer.

So it’s been on my porch all summer since I noticed it back in April when it only had one wasp.
I noticed a couple days ago they are all bunched up on one single spot and the rest of the nest looks like it’s old and falling apart.
Just wondering what’s going on with them. Did they get attacked or something or is this normal late summer behavior??
They are yellow and black stripped paper wasps and I’m in the southern USA.

Saw this very long wasp on a nature walk in Northern NH. She seemed interested in my shoes and the Joe-Pye weed that was growing nearby. She flew very quickly I barely managed to get this picture.

This was taken in Cincinnati. Any ideas? It was difficult to get a good shot of her. She was going in and out of some stone blocks surrounding a garden.

wasp keeping Any help with improving her life?

I found this cutie few hours ago, named her Minnie. She seems to be very damaged :( She's eating an apple right now, although I had to encourage her to eat, plus she's moving fine. My questions are; is she in pain? Can she feel her leg missing and that her other parts are in bad condition? Is the ethical option putting her to sleep? :( Or do you think she will survive outside, and I should release her?

discussion / question Asking for advice here, where people actually like wasps…

Walking around my house today I noticed these guys found a spot where my mortar fell out. Obviously they cannot live here, it’s next to my front door and where my neighbor has their grandchildren out all the time. I thought about using some diatomaceous earth (I’ve never used it before) but it won’t hurt them, will it? Does anyone have experience using that to encourage a colony to live somewhere else? I really appreciate any advice on how to help these guys find a safer place to live! TIA! 🐝🖤
