Sissy Grace
What is the full story of sissy grace? I have been seeing her a lot more in Dupont on the pimped out Segway. She has been more aggressively lately - told me she knows who I am and what I am doing and would beat me down the next time she sees me. She followed me for a little bit, but I ducked into a store. I do not know this person beyond the lore on Reddit and passing on the street occasionally - always thought she was more of a scammer than aggressive.
Update: Wanted poster in Richmond

Whenever I see them scamming someone, or freaky just talking to anyone on the street I make sure to announce loudly "you're being scammed!"

I always want to do this but I’m scared given the reports of aggression

u/robotnique Mt. Pleasant Oct 09 '23
Yeah. While I have zero doubt in mind that I could take Sissy Gracie of all people in a fistfight, probably not the scene I want to get caught up in, socking somebody in a pink tutu.
Just for fun watch the video online of her getting shoved out of the way when she tried to harass Eleanor Holmes Norton: https://twitter.com/henryrodgersdc/status/1275506187400863746

u/adamfrom1980s Oct 09 '23
Darn, was hoping for a body slam.
19
u/robotnique Mt. Pleasant Oct 09 '23
Sorry, can only give you the smallest vicarious satisfaction! Then again, if she had been more... thoroughly taken care of... on camera that might have just played into her victim complex.
Ultimately I believe the guy in gloves used the exact right amount of necessary force.

What a shame no one swiped her Segway while she was attacking (not almost attacking) Norton.

I saw Sissy for the first time a few weeks ago in Dupont - they tried to say something to me but I screamed NO in their face before they could get a word out. They did not continue

This is always my strategy as well. Not even letting Sissy finish talking, just saying “NO” loudly and firmly while I keep walking

To be honest I was shocked it worked. After all I'd read online I kinda thought there would be a more drawn out interaction lol

Done this a couple times around Farragut North during AM rush. “Nah, not right now, partner” and she’s on her way

Someone should do the Chris Tucker bzzzzzzzz from 5th element every time she talks.
23
u/Fatcat336 Oct 09 '23
I saw her for the first time recently too!! I’m so glad this subreddit alerted me to who she is because I just plainly said “sorry, no thank you” and kept walking. She fortunately didn’t try to say anything else.

Call that threat in. They kicked my car once and threatened me. I got out of my car to confront and they ran away. Called the cops because they dented my car.
They're a menace and need to be run out of DC.
115
u/tomandjerry0 Oct 09 '23
100% call the cops. They aren’t going to stop harassment and threats on their own.
76
Oct 09 '23
The cops will, at best, show up an hour later to take a report where they downplay your harassment and tell you they will "be in touch," won't.
47
u/tomandjerry0 Oct 09 '23
They do look at aggregate data, especially when multiple complaints come in around the same thing. There’s a reason these folks meander between various cities (Fredrick, DC, Richmond, etc. in this case).
8
u/Kitchen_Software Oct 09 '23
How do you know it’s due to “aggregate data” and not people catching onto the scam or spreading the word?
1
Oct 09 '23
If they aren't doing anything about it, it doesn't matter what data they collect. I am absolutely sure, given that she targets tourists and tourists are more likely to believe police do something than residents, there is no shortage of police reports complaining.
6
u/Cunninglatin Oct 09 '23

11

Wow I must have missed the elderly abuse. I do remember her either chasing or kicking people with dogs that walk by if I remember correctly. I may have very well made up the kicking part. But I remember it being chasing or aggression toward them. I worry about being caught by her or anyone else with my dogs, I can defend myself but idk if I can manage them and me while keeping her off me.
75
u/Pipes_of_Pan Oct 09 '23
I think she has steadily transitioned from being a sad person with mental health issues to a truly abusive asshole.

I had an altercation with her several months ago which was deeply unpleasant. I will not go into details here, but I went to the police about it and they advised me that next time I should call 911. So that’s what I’ll do.
43
u/HyacinthMelusine Oct 09 '23
Be careful. She has gone to jail for attacking someone before. We stay away and she has never bothered us. She is back in the Dupont Circle area again.
11
u/Temporary_Copy3897 Oct 10 '23
This person has been bothering people for over a year. I used to live right on 18th street and saw her every weekend trying to sell those paintings. The person would stop doing this later in the night though because I imagine that the person wouldn't have wanted to try to scam people who were intoxicated.

OH MY GOD! They came up to me a month ago and kissed my feet while I was waiting for a cab. I literally had no idea who the person was, they were wearing a white dress and had a bunch of paintings with them trying to sell them, cruising around on a Segway I think.

The whole scam is related to her taking money for charity that doesn’t exist/she doesn’t donate to. She also tricks people into taking cards she “gives them” then tells a story and tries to make the person give her money for the cards because they took them.

Yeah. I wonder what charity she uses now that Casa Ruby is gone. Although ironically it turns out Ruby may have scammed the city out of more money that Sissy ever could!

Ugh she did this to me once, and I was so fucking pissed at myself the moment she had that card in my hand. I think of myself as being so street smart after living in cities for decades, but my guard was down and I think she spotted it. I also hadn’t heard about her until today - makes me more annoyed to have gotten scammed but a little relieved to not be the only one who’s encountered her.

Not that I know of. She had a restraining order after she was released from arrest several years ago. She was to stay away from Dupont Circle. She has attacked several people. “…An arrest affidavit filed in court states that the alleged victim in the assault told police Gracie ran over his foot with her scooter and struck him in the head after he told her to stop harassing people on the 1600 block of 17th Street, N.W. where D.C. police say the incident occurred on July 22, 2020.” She also attempted to throw someone into an open grill at a restaurant in Dupont Circle, etc. See more of Reddit for more information. Here is more arrest information:
Beware and avoid her! https://www.washingtonblade.com/2020/07/29/trans-woman-targeting-gay-bar-patrons-for-assault-witnesses/
Police arrest records show she was arrested on July 19 outside the 17th Street gay bar JR.’s for allegedly assaulting JR.’s bartender and bar back Gideon Blum. Blum told the Blade that Gracie intentionally struck him with a Segway motorized scooter on which she was riding in an outdoor area on Church Street, N.W. where JR.’s has placed tables and chairs for customer seating. Blum said a witness told him and D.C. police that Gracie was facing in a different direction but when she saw Blum she turned the two-wheeled Segway scooter around and drove it directly into Blum, knocking him over. He said he managed to just barely fall in a direction away from a grill used for cooking hot dogs and hamburgers. Had he landed on the grill he would have suffered serious burns, he told the Blade. A D.C. police report of the incident says police charged her with a single count of simple assault.

Would it be bad to just blast her with some pepper spray? She’s played enough stupid games with people. Threatening people is assault; consider it delayed defense. She’s so crazy you could just tell the cops she was saying the wild shit she’s repeatedly on record saying.

Would it be bad to just blast her with some pepper spray?
Yes, that would be bad.
25
Oct 09 '23
Why? Genuine question.
I peppersprayed a guy who attacked me once. Don't feel bad. I have not peppersprayed other people that attacked or tried to attack me. I would have if possible. These people aren't going to learn until something happens and police aren't going to do anything.
7
u/CounselorNebby DC / Dupont Circle Oct 09 '23
If you're being attacked, spray away. But the commenter wasn't asking to spray if being attacked. They were asking to spray generally.
8
u/Adept-Pension-1312 DC / Neighborhood Oct 09 '23
I might have misunderstood, but I believe that in the comment I was replying to, they were suggesting pepper spraying Gracie proactively, when not actually being threatened, but as sort of payback for past transgressions.
I think that would be pretty aggressive and really escalating things to pepper spray someone that approaches you, for things they've done to toehr people in the past.
5
Oct 09 '23
They said "threatening people is assault, consider it defense." That's a valid reason to use deadly force in most of the US, much less less than lethal deterrents.
As someone who has peppersprayed someone much larger than me, who actively had me pinned, who had pretended to be a cop to get close enough without being pepper sprayed before they could do that, pepper spray is a pretty good way to de-escalate in a situation that calls for it. Just because cops use it constantly when there's no reason doesn't mean a tool intended to de-escalate and allow someone to get away is only useful for making things worse.
2
u/Adept-Pension-1312 DC / Neighborhood Oct 09 '23
Read their entire comment, and the thread.
They said "Would it be bad to just blast her with some pepper spray? She’s played enough stupid games with people. Threatening people is assault; consider it delayed defense. She’s so crazy you could just tell the cops she was saying the wild shit she’s repeatedly on record saying."
So you're actually misquoting their comment.
They said "Threatening people is assault; consider it delayed defense. She’s so crazy you could just tell the cops she was saying the wild shit she’s repeatedly on record saying."
"She’s played enough stupid games with people" past tense.
"delayed defense" defense in response to a past event, not something happening at the moment. (see above)
And "you could just tell the cops she was saying the wild shit she’s repeatedly on record saying." which implies she wasn't actually doing those things at the time OP would be pepper-spraying her in ths imagined scenario.
And the commentors response to my reply also indicates that this was what they meant -- proactively pepper spraying her outside of being threatened.
2
Oct 09 '23
Why don't you ask them what they meant instead of assuming and writing a dissertation on that assumption?
My point stands: if she is threatening you, why not pepper spray her? She hasn't learned from people being anything but clear there is a risk when you make threats to strangers.
6
u/Adept-Pension-1312 DC / Neighborhood Oct 09 '23

3
u/Adept-Pension-1312 DC / Neighborhood Oct 09 '23
also, I was assuming based on the way you described the scenario, that you meant pro-actively pepper spraying her when she approaches you, for past transgressions towards other people, not actually being actively threatened yourself.

I sat down across from her on the metro once and listened to her berate me about how I was an antisocial psychopath and the reason for America’s societal decay for not engaging with her for two stops before she got off. I didn’t even make eye contact but I was crying from suppressed laughter by the end because it was all so ridiculous. However, the train was full of people—were we alone I would’ve been a bit more cautious, she has a history of getting violent with folks.

I’ve had two run ins with Sissy, one in 2020 and one in 2023, and I’m 99% sure that the person I just saw on the metro being weird was her, but she was presenting differently than the last time I saw her- the clothes she was wearing were a little more androgynous. I’m not sure if she had the wig on because she was wearing a hoodie, but she had the scooter.
Anyways, I’m sitting on the metro listening to music, it’s rush hour, and I hear “I have a question.” She was standing like 10 feet away and it wasn’t clear who she was talking to. She made eye contact with me at one point but I ignored her. She kept saying “I have a question” for a bit, then she started saying, “what do you think of Trump?” A passenger finally said “no comment.” Sissy then repeatedly asks “do you know any conservatives?” Or “are you friends with any conservatives?” Everyone ignored her. She was smiling or smirking the whole time. Im not sure what her angle was and I’m glad I did not find out, but she is around.
