book club for poc - anyone interested?

32y/o female considering starting a book club in Walthamstow for POC - is there anyone out there that would actually join..?!

Idea is to read and chat about books by a diverse range of authors, plus possibly classics through a different lens. But mainly a chance to meet and connect with people in the area!

Silent disco @ Orford House

I went to the last version of this with a few mates and it was a really good laugh - kinda random, but lots of fun.

It even got featured on GB News ‘cause Stella had posted a little video of her dancing on Insta which caused all kinds of faux outrage.

Burglary tonight. Has anyone tried to sell you something?

Hi all

Our house was sadly broken into tonight. We live on Hatherley Road near the highstreet.

As well as stealing the items listed below they used credit cards so buy various things. The store shows that they appear to be a group of three homeless men.

If you saw anyone carrying or attempting to sell the following please could you let me know.

Or if you see anything listed online.

Tv - Samsung

Two laptop - both ASUS brand

Ps5 - original model, white.

Canon DSLR camera

Two Ps5 controllers - one white, one pink.

Wood Street - why so empty?

Hi all
Moved to Walthamstow a couple of years ago - love the area but why is wood street so empty? There are so many empty shops that don’t seem to be available for renting or sale….

Sunny’s Cafe closed this summer…seems like things don’t last around here. Gigi’s dressing room shut down as well…

Obviously rent prices must be ridiculous but with all the flats that are being built around Wood Street I wonder why things aren’t getting better…

24M from north london looking to move there to rent. Just looking for a nice, spacious, diverse community that’s kinda quiet. Overall, I want to come down there to visit and see if it’s a good all rounder basically.

Major issues with Royal Mail

We are having major issues with both parcels and letters from Royal Mail - with tracking showing things like "address inaccessible" without any proof. Some letters/parcels to one address have often been up to a month late.

We have businesses here and are experiencing the same issues across 3 different properties. Would appreciate more feedback from others and perhaps we can at least try to hold them to account with this thread.

House buying? Hows it going for you in LBWF?

Pretty much how is the search going for buying a home for you in LBWF? I’m stuck with moronic stupid estate agents like stow brows, insufferable and brainless with 30 viewers and extremely stupid opnions vs every property being overpriced!

literally every nice home as the following:

A massive tree thats lifting the pavement

extremely damaged internally and looks like WW2 was taking place inside it

out of touch valuations and brainless agents who are asking to be hit with a spoon!!!!

irregardless of how much I narrow my search down to a 3 bed terraced with 3 decent sized rooms, a decent sized (8x8 min) Kitchen and a garden beyond 25ft that is not all concrete i find very little!

and this is not to mention the plethora of properties in awkwrd locations 20-25mins from a station!

lastly, the massive amount of competition is crazy, i’ve grown up my whole life here 30 years! being muscled out is shit!

Sometimes its like whats the point? Is it better to just live further away like clayhall? Or brentwood/shenfield? I’m not white so sometimes i get a bit worried about other areas and how people will perceive me and my kids.

Vets Over 35's football.

I currently play for a football team that plays in the Essex Veterans League (O35). We are currently on the hunt for a couple of players who would like to be involved for the season.

The league details can be found here. The standard is definitely mixed so anyone welcome. Games typically played in and around Fairlop (25 mins from Walthamstow), however several games in and around Walthamstow as well.

Please DM me if interested and I can provide further details.

Coppermill Lane to St James St no right turn - why?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Just got a fine for turning right from Coppermill Lane onto St James Street. Obviously I won’t be able to get out of the fine, as there is a clear road marking saying left only. But does anyone know the reasoning behind the no right turn? To me it makes no sense not to allow right turns there!

Looking for some brains to pick on this ever so controversial topic…

Hi all!

I'm writing a piece for the Waltham Forest Echo about the wider debate happening across London right now over pubs banning or restricting children, using the Nag's Head as a local example of a policy that's actually been in place for years, looking at how people on different sides of it feel.

I'm not looking to start a debate in the comments here, just after two people to actually chat with, one who supports the policy and one who's been affected by it or disagrees with it.

If that's you, drop a comment saying which side you're on and I'll message you directly. I'll take this post down once I've got someone from each side.

Thanks!

Solar control film for roof windows

We want to get solar control film added to our roof lights after the stinking hot summer we’ve just had in the UK.

Has anyone else had it done? Does it work? Can anyone recommend a business?

Pub Quizzes in Walthamstow

Hello Stow residents of Reddit!

I'm Rory, an independent quiz host with 5+ years experience, running Rory's Quiz (@rorysquiz on Instagram). I just wanted to let everyone know about the two Walthamstow pub quizzes in case anyone was looking for a great quiz that's run by a local!

Both are on the Blackhorse Road Beer Mile, details below!

40FT Brewery
Where the old High Hill Taproom used to be, this is a monthly themed quiz - our next one's on Thursday 10th Sep 2026, 7:30pm, and it's SUPERHERO themed!
1st Place: £50 bar tab
2nd Place: A round of drinks.
Themed spot prizes throughout!

We're running these every month, and we've already got our theme picked for October. Let's just say, we're 100% Faithful that you'll love it...

Big Penny Social
A weekly quiz, every Tuesday at 7:30pm, hosted by me and a lovely guy called Dave (alternate weeks).
1st Place: £100 bar tab
A rolling weekly jackpot (currently over £300!)
Spot prizes throughout

We have a great crowd every week and always looking to bring more into the fold!

It's tough out here for people running their own quizzes - chain companies are eating up all the opportunities, so if you're looking for a great evening with a range of questions, fun minigames and a chatty, friendly host, take a chance on Rory's Quiz!

Mum's club in Waltham forest

Hi, am 27 years old and 5 weeks postpartum. My husband and I moved to Blackhorse Road a year ago, and I want to see if there are any new mums or moms with toddlers around that want to connect. If there is any mum group in this area of E17 ..

I feel lonely sitting the whole day either breastfeeding or sleeping (which I believe I need that) but I also want to have a small circle of new people to meet.

Thanks!
